WORSHIP THIS WEEKEND April 27, 2014, 10:00 am
The Story, Chapter 28: New Beginnings
This week we will be studying Chapter 28 of the Story. In this chapter we look at the history of the early church after Jesus was resurrected and ascended to Heaven again. This is a beginning point where the rubber hits the road for the disciples. Now the disciples need to practice the commissioning that Jesus gave to them from Matthew 28. At the very end of the gospel stories, Jesus calls on his followers to “Make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son and The Holy Spirit.”
In Chapter 28 we learn about the Ascension of Jesus to the Heaven and then the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Spirit comes upon the church. These are exciting stories of our faith where we see the power of God alive in action. On the day of Pentecost the church is born and people are brought
together for the breaking of bread and fellowship with one another. It is the beginning of the Christian Church as we know it.
Also this week we will be celebrating Earth Week with some special music offered by our choir and Shannon Bain, one of our youth. We hope that you will come and experience God with us.
This week’s readings are:
Acts 1: 1-11
Acts 2: 37-47
Acts 9: 1-19

The St. Andrew’s Auction Committee started a little later than usual, but quickly gained speed
to develop our Annual Spring Fest Auction Event.
We decided it was too hectic to have both the Live and Silent Auction this year, so we returned
to just a Live Auction format and the Auction was held on Saturday April 5th. We also had
some interactive raffle activities.
This year’s auction committee was very happy with the fundraising effort. We raised approxi-
mately $7,466. Part of our objective was an outreach effort that benefited the 4th Georgetown
Venturer Scouts group that meets in our church. Wilf Gray, the Spring Fest Chairman will be
presenting a cheque to the Venturer Scouts.
The committee would like to thank everyone who attended the event and supported this fund-
raiser.
Special thanks to all the St. Andrew’s members and friends who assisted the Auction commit-
tee before the auction: creating the tickets (Graeme Thompson and Greg Howard); working on
the letters to the Businesses and creating mailing labels (Heather Curtain); making phone calls
to the Businesses and/or making pickups (Laura & Grant Williams, Rosemarie Lee, Margret
Vander Voet, Etheleen Martin, Jeannie Yach, Anne Cillis, Merna Prete and also the Auction
committee members). Also, thank you to others who contacted the Businesses they deal with
to obtain Auction donations.
Special thanks to the extra people who helped set up for the auction – Lorne and Kathy
MacLeod and especially the Youth group who ran up and down the stairs bringing the Auction
items from the basement to the Gym – Stephen Cowley, Tracey Bazso, Annie Elgie, Morag and
Duncan Mackenzie and also the Venturer Scouts and advisors: Ron Boyd, Paul Jackson, An-
drew De Aguiar, Chris Boyd and Shawn McGregor.
Also special thanks to everyone who donated items or cash and a big round of applause to the
following people for stepping up and helping the Auction committee members out on the day of
the event: Florence Riehl, Kathy and Lorne MacLeod, Brian Heinmiller, Phil McClure, Don
Thompson, Jeanne Brennan, Margo Baird, Marlene Beitz, Michelle Yahiro, Eric King, James
and Riley Stringer, their friends - Jack Paulitzki and Edward DeVries, Christina, Ashley and
Jennifer Martin, Lucy Fountain and the Venturer Scouts and their advisors: Ron Boyd, Jim Mil-
lington, Andrew De Aguiar, Chris Boyd, Sara Boyd and Aidan Millington.
Congratulations to The 2014 Auction Committee for an amazing event!

FLORENCE’S FORUM
Yes the tree is gone! I know one robin that is miss-
ing it. I watched him on Good Friday morning flying
back and forth looking for his favourite tree. I felt so
sorry for him. Summer Sunday’s won’t be the same
without the robins singing as the congregation ar-
rives. Too bad!
What a busy Service on Easter Sunday! What a
crowd of people! Nice to see Grand Parents, God
Parents, Aunts, Uncles, and friends of the six young
people who were confirmed into the membership of
the congregation of St. Andrew’s Church.
The young people confirmed were Jennifer and
Ashley Martin, Christopher Huckins, Annie Elgie,
Kaslyn Kallio, and Adrianna Prete. They all grew up
in the church and already have been a big part of
the life of the Church. Congratulations and welcome.
There was no shortage of special music for this
Easter Sunday – the Senior Choir, the “group”- Ron
Lovegrove on drums, Rob Auger on guitar, Barb,
Heather and Ken singing, and a solo by Tracey
Bazso.
Everyone was invited to take part in Communion
served by those confirmed and their parents.
There were some people unable to join us on this
Easter Sunday -Doug Magwood, Charlie Martin, Bill
Webb. Remember George Ohashi who will be un-
dergoing surgery this week.
It was a beautiful Easter Sunday weather-wise as
well. I sincerely hope that the nasty weather is
behind us.
The Good Lord willin’, I’ll see you on Sunday.
Share your shining personality with everyone you
meet. I’m sure you can brighten someone’s day or
maybe even have your own day brightened.
Florence

GRANT’S WORLD
This has been a real action packed week as we celebrated the resur-rection of Jesus Christ. Sunday was a blessed day. At the start of the day we worshipped in the Dominion Gardens Park for our Sunrise Service. We experienced the resurrection in a new way as we reflected on the significance of the Garden of Gethsemane in the Easter story. Following the service about 13 of us gathered for break-fast at Ares Restaurant.
In our 10 AM service we cele-brated the confirmation of six of our young people along with their mentors. What a celebration day it was to see these young people beaming with delight as they were welcomed into our congregation officially. We were also happy to see some of the Godparents stand
up with the youth as they recited their confirmation promises. The Confirmation class was a great group of young people and I feel honoured to have been able to work with them over the past four months.
Easter Sunday was a great day to celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and it was nice to see the church filled to capacity. I have heard many people tell me how wonderful it was to hear the singing with a full church. Many thanks to all those who partici-pated in the service serving communion, teaching Sunday school and to the Lovegrove Family and Rob Ogger for leading us in some praise music.
This weekend is our Annual Mom
to Mom Sale and Small Business Market. We have many great vendors coming to sell merchan-dise and good used kids’ stuff. We hope that you will come out and support this fundraiser for our church. The committee has worked really hard on putting this event together and we pray for a successful day.
Blessings to you.
See you on Sunday.
Grant
