The Bradley Road culvert will be replaced this summer. Construction began the week of June 10th and will conclude in September. The road will be closed at the culvert and detour signs are posted. This project is a partnership of Cuyahoga County and

the City of North Olmsted.

Springvale

Springvale’s new outdoor pavilion is the perfect backdrop for your next

event. We still have 2019 availability for your next company picnic, family

get-together, golf outing and more. Springvale’s pavilion is available to

rent with reasonable resident & non-resident pricing. The pavilion

features an indoor bar, gas fireplace, customizable colored lighting,

running water, gas grill and indoor restroom facilities.

As always the Springvale Golf Course is open to the public for residents

and visitors to enjoy! We are now scheduling outings, leagues and tee

Saturday, September 7th at 9:30 AM Join us in our mission to stay active and healthy. Classes are free and open to all

levels. Weather permitting, yoga will be held outside near the Gazebo, otherwise, we’ll see you in the Community Cabin. Check in begins at 9:30 AM and class starts promptly at 10:00 AM, so plan on arriving extra early to check in and claim your favorite spot on the lawn or in the Cabin. Don’t forget your yoga mat, towel and

water. Yoga in the Park is organized by the North Olmsted Arts Commission. Classes are led by Circle of Life Yoga.

Pick up weekly on garbage day through November 29th All grass clippings and yard waste should be placed in brown lawn/leaf bags or in a

can marked YARD WASTE, both not to exceed 50lbs. Brush and small trimmings must be cut to 4ft. lengths or less, bundled and securely

tied, not to exceed 50lbs. Stop by the City Hall front desk or the Service Department for complimentary yard

waste bags. Monday - Friday 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM First come, first serve, while supplies last. One time pick-up, 10 bags per household.

SEPTEMBER is TIRE collection month:

Residents can dispose of old scrap tires at City Hall’s Fleet Garage between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM during the entire month.

Arts in Focus: Celebrating the Arts in North Olmsted

Have you heard about the North Olmsted Arts Commission? The Commission was

established to develop and encourage all forms and areas of art within the City for

the benefit of its residents, including fine arts, performing arts and cultural arts, as

well as to support and conduct events which celebrate the spirit, character and

history of the City. Throughout the year, our members will be sharing news, events

and information on the arts as way to Celebrate North Olmsted.

School may be starting, but summer is going strong! We hope you’ll come out and

join us in the community for our upcoming events. On Friday, September 6th at

7:00 PM, we’ll be hosting Friday Night Mics. This is a great chance to check out

the new outdoor pavilion at Springvale and do something a little bit different than

the norm, as guests are invited to enjoy a variety of great local music and talent in

an open mic format. Coffee and light snacks will be provided along with a cash bar

and a free caramel apple station.

We’ll be outdoors again on Saturday, September 7th for our final Salutations in the

Sun: Yoga in the Park, which starts at 10:00 AM. This free yoga class at North

Olmsted Park is open to everyone of all ages and levels of experience. It’s a great

opportunity to get outside, meet your neighbors and find some relaxation within the

city.

Sign up today at North Olmsted Parks & Recreation Connection Special Events Rec Club Session 1 | August 26, 2019 – October 25, 2019 Session 2 | October 28, 2019 – January 16, 2020 Session 3 | January 21, 2020 – March 20, 2020 Session 4 | March 23, 2020 – June 3, 2020 $215 per student per session. (Approximately $5 per day). We are pleased to announce our new program for the 2019 2020 school year. Rec Club is an after school program for North Olmsted Middle School students. Students will then have time for home work, tutoring and a snack. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to take part in activities such as ice skating, swimming, games, learning how to use the fitness center and more. Transportation from the middle school is included in this program. This program will have something for everyone and will be a fun environment that students will look forward to attending. Sessions will run based on the school grading periods and will not run when school is not in session. Fitness Fitness Orientation September 11th | 6:00 - 7:00 PM September 25th | 6:00 – 7:00 PM Free to all pass members. This class is an information session that will provide the basics of how to use the weight machines and cardio equipment. Registration is required. Sign up at the Recreation Center front desk or online. Exercise Punch Passes Looking to try out a new group exercise class but do not want to commit to a monthly or annual membership? Purchase an Exercise Punch Pass that give you the flexibility you need without a deadline. Get 10 visits for $60. Ice Rink Learn to Skate USA Learn to Skate USA is the official beginning skating program for US Figure Skating, USA Hockey and US Speed Skating. This program offers innovative instruction that is both informative and motivational with lots of extras including free public skates, skate rentals, extended lesson time, achievement patches, an end of session party and more.

Aquatics Learn to Swim The City of North Olmsted offers a program suited for beginners to more advanced skilled swimmers. Our program is committed to providing lessons that build confidence, teach water safety skills, and encourages growth within a safe environment. Gymnastics Recreation North Olmsted Gymnastics offers a variety of gymnastics classes including preschool age, recreational, bar skills and camps. Please check our full listing of available classes and camps. Sports Hoop Stars Coaches from Jump Start Sports will run this instructional and recreational basketball program for children in grades 1 and 2. Players are taught the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, positioning, defense, and rebounding, and then apply what they have learned in fun, non-competitive games. Players will be assigned to teams and each session will include a game as well as instruction. All participants will receive a team shirt and a participation medal. 5th thru 8th grade Basketball Leagues This is broken up into a 5th/6th grade league and a 7th/8th grade league. These leagues feature teams from other cities such as Brook Park, Middleburg Heights, Fairview Park, Rocky River, Columbia Station, Berea, Cuyahoga Heights, Strongsville and Westlake. A 10 game season that will feature an end of the year tournament. Players will be placed on teams created by the Recreation Department. Teams are coached by volunteer parents. Home games will be played at the New North Olmsted Middle/High School. Registration is now open. Residents: $75 | Non-Residents: $95 High School Basketball League If there are enough teams/players this league will be broken into a 9th/10th and 11th/12th Grade League. If there are not enough players we will combine all 4 Grades into one league. This 10 game regular season will play Saturdays. A single elimination tournament will be held at the completion of the regular season. All teams are coached by volunteer parents. Games will be played at the North Olmsted Middle/High School. Registration is now open. Residents: $75 | Non-Resident: $80 Coed Volleyball Clinic A fun and instructional program for girls and boys in grades 1-6. All fundamentals will be taught including serves, sets, slams, blocks, returns, positioning, and team strategy. Whether your child is an experienced player or complete novice, they will have a blast and learn a lot about the sport in this fun and innovative program. All classes at Pine Intermediate School: 4267 Dover Center Rd. Register online at Jumpstartsports.com. Tuesdays, November 5th – December 10th Grade 1-3 5:30-6:30 PM | Grade 4-6 6:30-7:30 PM Fee is $75 which includes a t-shirt and volleyball medal. 4th-6th Grade, 7th-9th Grade and **NEW** 10th-12th Grade Indoor Volleyball League This league will be combined with Middleburg Hts., Bay Village, Westlake, Fairview Park, North Ridgeville and Brook Park. Girls will be placed on teams created by the Recreation Department. This 6 v 6 league will be coached by volunteer parents. Practices will start the beginning of September with games starting September 28th. Registration is now open. Residents: $50 | Non-Residents: $65 Talking Tots – Ages 15 months to 2 years old September 20 – October 25, 2019 | 11:15 AM – 12:00 PM This class is designed to help empower parents to encourage their child's communication skills. Each week we will highlight a specific speech strategy that parents can easily incorporate into daily routines to encourage language and communication skills. Strategies begin with basic foundational skills and continue through a typical developmental progression. Classes include a gross motor and/or sensory integration component. Residents: $140 | Non-Residents: $155

Literacy, Language and Movement – Ages 3 - 5 years old September 20 – October 25, 2019 | 1:00 – 2:00 PM This class is designed to provide preschool aged children, with and without delays, opportunities for direct instruction of early literacy and language skills, while incorporating gross motor activities and social skills practice. Each week a new book is used to teach vital pre-literacy skills, such as sound-letter correspondence and rhyming. Expressive and receptive language skills are tied into the activities (vocabulary, following directions, basic concepts, etc.) in order to develop communication skills in a fun and functional way. Residents: $140 | Non-Residents: $155 EXTRA-Ordinary Activities – Ages 5 - 10 years old September 20 – October 25, 2019 | 4:45 – 5:45 PM This class is designed to provide preschool aged children A class designed to provide 5-10 year old children with opportunities to develop gross motor skills while working on social skills. Different gross motor skills targeted each week through fun activities and games. Social skills targeted throughout the fun, in a natural and functional way. Focus may be on: conversation skills, turn taking, teamwork, encouraging others, being a graceful winner, and more. Residents: $170 | Non-Residents: $185
