Solution: Switch document view to “scroll view” -- go to “Document drop down menu / select “Scroll view”

Write your text -- Click on Text tool / double click where you want the text placed / a field will appear to type text into / type text / left click on mouse Results - the text will only appear on the score and part you intended it to show up How to save, print, and email parts using Adobe Situation - Older versions of Finale made it difficult to send parts/scores via the internet and were prone to have printing format issues. Solution - Newer versions of Finale have incorporated Adobe into Finale allowing users to save and print instrument parts/scores as Adobe files. Once the information is converted to Adobe it also makes it MUCH easier to email to interested parties or digitally post the information on a website, etc. - when posting music in written or recorded form on the internet make sure that you are in compliance with copyright laws. Open the file menu drop down box / select “Export” / select “PDF” How to produce a non “midi” audio file of a finale file Situation - Finale with most music notation programs uses a file type known as “midi”. If you send these files to someone who doesn’t have similar software they can’t play the file. When posting music in written or recorded form on the internet make sure that you are in compliance with copyright laws Solution: Creating an audio file of the entire piece Open Finale file and select “Edit Score” function in “Document” menu drop down Select “File” / Export / Audio file - the music file will be converted to a .wav file which is a standard file that most computers can read without any additional software. Creating an audio file of a single instrument/vocal part Open the Finale file / use Document menu drop down and select “Edit Part” / select specific instrumental/vocal part

How to created accommodated parts visually impaired students Situation - In the past I have had students that were visually impaired. Most of the time enlarging the music on the copier was sufficient, but last year I had a student with severe vision impairment, blowing it up large enough on a copier would lead to missing note/measures/lines. Solution - This is a time consuming process but completely worth it to allow a visually disabled student more opportunity to succeed. Create a Finale document/file for the student’s instrument Input all musical notes and information that appears on the original part/score

Click the Resize tool Left click the very beginning of the first measure and this Dialogue box appears

Choose a % to increase the size Hint: You can get more on a page using “landscape” orientation. After you increase the size look through each page and see if you have a page with only 1 or 2 measures at the end - if so use the “Undo” function under the Edit drop down - this will take the page back to the original size - then repeat the process but decrease the % by 5 - 8% and it should squeeze that extra measure or two onto other pages and reduce the number of pages the student has to keep up with. If you increase by a large % the student will have lots of pages for a single song, it’s helpful to bind them into a booklet with rings. Scanning - Has been removed from the Finale Program due to copyright issues. Worksheets and repertoire -

How to mark ALL accidentals Situation - In a given measure a note that has an accidental is repeated, but the part only shows the accidental before the the pitch the first time, not the second time causing young players to miss the second note. Solution - Using the “cautionary accidental” plugin Finale will mark ALL notes even repeated notes with accidentals.

How to get there - click on , then plugins/Note beams/Cautionary accidentals

Harmony parts on same stave Situation - What you are writing calls for an additional harmony voice on the same stave as an existing voice. Solution - change the layer Document defaults to “layer 1”

Metatools - why didn’t I know about these things 5 years ago?!!!! What are they? Simply put a metatool is a “sub” program working within the main program. They can be self created and are usually called “Macros” at this point or in the case of Finale there are certain metatools built into the program https://usermanuals.finalemusic.com/FinaleWin/Content/Finale/Quick_Start_Videos.htm#metatools Ex. If you want to mark and entire measure of notes with a staccato mark Click the articulation tool Then hold down the key that corresponds to the desired articulation (upper right hand corner of box containing desired articulation) and while you click individual notes.
