Go Pilsen is a program of the Chicago Department of Transportation. Our goal is to help you get around Pilsen and the city of Chicago by

foot, bike, bus, train, and shared car.

Explore Pilsen’s connection to green spaces by foot or bike. For a short, family-friendly walk or ride, stop at Ping Tom Memorial Park before heading back along 18th Street (about 1.5 miles round trip). A longer route takes you to Lake Michigan and the Lakefront Trail (about 4 miles round trip — not including the trail).

Begin your walk or ride on 18th Street and head east towards Lake Michigan.

Enjoy the protected bike lanes on 18th

Street along the bridge over the South

Branch of the Chicago River.

Wander through Ping Tom Memorial Park. Be sure to spot the beautiful

pagoda-style pavilion and bamboo gardens.

You can grab a kayak from the rental station

in the new boathouse.

If a short walk is what you’re after, enjoy the park and then head west down 18th Street back towards Pilsen. If you’re up for more:

where you can visit the Chicago Women’s

Glessner House Museum, which is free on

Wednesdays.

After the slight bend in the road, where

18th Street becomes Calumet Ave, look

for the small park. On the southern end,

take a left onto the wide sidewalk leading

towards a short pedestrian tunnel.

Follow the path to the pedestrian and bicycle bridge. Continue straight under

Lake Shore Drive.

Pass Soldier Field (on your left).

Continue straight on the path. After the

crosswalk, Burnham Harbor will be

directly in front of you.

Now you can turn left and follow the

Lakefront Path to the Museum Campus and Northerly Island or turn right to 31st

Street Beach. Enjoy the stunning lakefront

and all the activities it has to offer!
