On Saturday night Parents’ Club hosted our major fundraising event for this year. It was our inaugural Christmas in July celebration. It was a great night with a delicious Spit Roast and dessert provided by Murph’s Roasts from Picola. GV Party Hire sponsored the tables and chairs and Next Office Tech donated the sound system. Some of the activities included: lucky baubles, a silent auction, nifty fifties, song shuffle and coin toss. Included in this newsletter is a thank you flyer acknowledging the individuals, families and businesses who supported this event. I encourage you to support them as without their kind generosity we wouldn’t be able to host such events to raise money for our school. It was a little bit disappointing that only 16 out of our 46 families attended. An enormous amount of time and effort goes into organising such events, to raise money for our school as well as provide a social opportunity for our parents and their friends to interact. The support from our school community is vital. I would like to sincerely thank our Parents’ Club for the fantastic job they did in organising and hosting our Christmas in July. Special mention to Lisa Irwin who was our MC! Thank you to everyone who attended the night making it a successful one!

Winners of the raffle were: 1st Prize ~ $100 Bunnings Voucher ~ Matt Irwin

    2nd Prize ~ $50 Rebel Gift Card & $25 Belcibos voucher ~ Michelle Marten

    3rd Prize ~ $30 Solar Seafood & $20 Fiore’s Bakery Café Vouchers ~ The Hunt Family

4th Prize ~ Village Cinema Family Pass ~ The

Hunt Family. Thank you to our families and staff who sold raffle tickets. At this stage, an amount on how much money was raised has not been finalised. I will let you know in next week’s newsletter.

Last Tuesday we went on our 2018 whole school excursion to The

Spaghetti Tree for lunch and then to the Regent Theatre to see The Wizard of Oz. Our students, staff and dads had a fantastic day with lots of positive comments about our students behaviour and manners. I’m sure you have heard all about our adventures and how amazing the show was. Thank you to Peter Blake, Damien Hunt and Paul Tricarico who were our dad helpers for this excursion. Josh R, Darcy, Charlee K, Tristan, Emma and Seth had the opportunity to meet Lewis Beer (Heather Adderly’s nephew) with me at the back stage door. He played one of the Munchkins, the one who announces that the wicked witch was dead. Lewis organised a program signed by all the cast members including Anthony Warlow and Lucy Durack. This is a very special piece of memorabilia for our school. A big thank you to Heather for putting me in contact with Lewis and Lewis for his time and generosity! There are photos of our excursion in our

    classroom wrap.

Today we had our Validation Day as part of our Review process. Today this involved

Neil Pryor (External Reviewer), Marian Lawless (Senior Education Improvement Leader), Ross Davis (Principal of Euroa Primary School), Deborah George (Principal of Yea Primary School), Bob Scott (School Council President) and myself doing classroom observations during writing and reading. Coralie Gamble (Literacy Leader) joined the panel after recess where we discussed the school’s performance against the goals and targets, our self evaluation and the Framework for Improved Student Outcomes Continua of Practice. All of this formed the focus and duration of the Review. We have 2 days left of our review:

Tuesday 7th August ~ Fieldwork Day

Thursday 9th August ~ Panel Day

On Tuesday 7th August parents are invited to join Neil Pryor in the library, from 8.30am to 9.00am or from 2.45pm to 3.15pm, to provide feedback about our

school. Neil will have questions to help with these discussions.

Miss Amy Howard is back running Outside School Hours Care this week. A big thank you to Mrs O who helped me run OSHC last week while Amy was away this ensured our service still operated. I saw Patsi over the weekend and she said to say hello to everyone. At this stage, I am not expecting Patsi to be back this term.

On Friday Mrs Irwin picked up our environmental bags as a promotional tool for our school. They look fantastic and are

something a bit novel to promote our school. Thanks to Mike at Spectrum Screen Printing who ordered and printed our bags! There are plenty in stock so if you would like to buy some they are available at the office for $4.00each. There is one on display in our office foyer. There has been a few reported cases of head lice already this term. Please be vigilant with checking and treating your child/ren’s hair on a regular basis, as this is the only way we will control this problem. Students are allowed to attend school once they have been treated and free of live louse. Your co-operation with this issue is appreciated.

Debbie Humphries ~ Proud Principal of K.C.P.S.

REMINDERS Book Club ~ Money & orders due 1st August

Overdue Library books ~ Library is this Wednesday please return your books to re-borrow or change.

Please ensure your child’s uniform items are clearly named. There are several unnamed polar fleeces and jackets in our lost property box. These will be washed and put in the 2nd hand uniforms if unclaimed by the end of the week.

    Talking Footy with Magic Magpies

    Round 18 Wrap

On Friday night, the Tigers ran out 54 point winners over the Saints. Ross finished with 33

touches for the Saints with 30 disposals to Martin for the Tiges. This was a healthy

percentage boost for the Tigers who remain on top of the ladder.

The Magpies taught the Kangas a footy lesson beating them by a massive 66 points. This

secured 3rd position on the ladder and was a strong percentage boost for the Pies, as the

tussle for top 4 continues as we move towards the business end of the season. Final score was

the Magpies 20.10.130 to the Kangas 9.10.64.

The upset to end all upsets happened at the SCG. The Suns came back from a 29 point

quarter time deficit to overrun the Swans to recording a famous 24 point win. This is the first

time the Suns have beaten the Swans. Both sides were inaccurate in front of goal. The final

scores: the Suns 12.16.88 to the Swans 8.16 64.

The Bombers keep their finals hopes alive, as they bet the Dockers by 29 points at Etihad

Stadium on Saturday. Neale finished with 30 disposals for the Dockers and Merriett had 28

    touches for the Bombers.

The brave Lions have just fallen short in the search of their 4th consecutive win for the

season. The Crows who were impacted by injury, held on to win by 5 points and keep their

finals chances alive. Best for the Crows were: Crouch, Greenwood and Laird while the Lions

    were Witherden, Gardiner and Cutler.

The Cats bet the Demons by 2 points after the siren. The game was claimed to be one of the

best of the season so far. Final score was Cats 16.4.100 to the Dees 14.14.98. Deescraceful is

devastated about her team’s lack lust performance, especially in the last quarter throwing

    away a 29 point lead. :(

The Hawks came out and simply erased the Blues from the equation right from the start.

They kicked 4 unanswered goals in the 1st quarter and were simply never challenged. This

win puts the Hawks into 7th edging out the Cats on percentage. Hawks 18.16.124 to the

Blues 7.10. 52. Those Hawks supporters are up and about again with plenty to say.

As expected the Eagles easily accounted for the Bulldogs at Optus Oval, winning by 54 points.

This has helped the Eagles maintain 2nd position on the ladder just behind the Tigers.

The final game of the Round was the Power taking on the Giants at Adelaide Oval. This game

had our tipsters a little unsure as to who to pick with about a 60% to 40% split. The final

siren ended a terrific contest with Power throwing everything they had at the Giants in the

last quarter getting within 9 points. However, the Giants dug deep and found the last 2 goals

of the game to record a memorable victory on the road.

Footy Tipping Stars of the Week ~ Round 18 ~ Fairy Princess, Faum, Fope’s Hope, The Big

Bomb, Narkle, Toby The WonderDog and Two Tigers all tipped 8 winners.

Footy Tipping Ladder Leaders ~ Round 18 ~ Tradie Sam had a bit of an off week by his usual

standards only getting 5 correct tips giving him a total of 112. Diggers Boys and Rocket are 6

behind on 106 . Then on 105 are: Bomber 10, Fope’s Hopes, Mrs O and Two Tigers. Dagwood

Dog brings up the tail on 104.

Round 19 Jackpot is back to $96.00

Good luck and happy tipping everyone!
