THE STEPS OF FAITH FALL ON THE SEEMING VOID AND FIND THE ROCK BENEATH.-WHIITIER.2

Primary Lesson. No. 3.EXPERIIIENTS IN THOUGHT TRANSPERENCE.

Before there can be any positive position in

reasoning, there must be facts. In this new

field of study, facts are to be first sought. Each person must collect data for himself. He can do so by the following experiments:Find some one ready to experime nt,` a ladyand oftimes a gentleman; but usually I End a

careless, good-natured boy is the easiest to

train. But keep trying until one is found.Blindfold the subject, do not touch him.

This removes from the experiment the theoryof muscle reading. Select some ot-ject and

mentally order him to touch it. Concentrate

your mind on it. Here hes the success of the

experiment. If your mind wavers you willconfuse him. I find the best success in be-

ginning by experimenting to take somethingon which the boy readily concentres; forinstance his knife. As yon, in silence, tellhim to go, he will feel an impulse to pitchforward. If he moves he will be drawn to thehidden thing. He mechanically does this and

lays his hand on it. From this, as a starter, the experiments may proceed to any length. It only requires patience to demonstrate that

thought is the greatest power man can use.

That Thought connects minds as the wireconnects two batteries.

Follow up this first success with this ex-

periment: Tell the subject that as you passamong the persons in the room whatever theydo to you he will feel. He is still blindfolded. If you fear he will tell by hearing, cover hisears. Soon he will feel the prick or the pinch, etc.,that is done to you. If your subject is

intelligent enough you may try this: Holdwith all your concentration a simple state-

ment, like "Fire will burn," or "I am happy,"and tell him to note his feelings. In a littletime he will feel as you shall think.

This was tried in my presence. The subjectsaid, "I feel so cheerful,I also feel generous. Iwant to share with you what I have." "Mythought," said the operator was, "The LordLoves a cheerful giver." I recently tried thisiu a company of ten, and nine of them feltthe emotion.

This experiment may be tried: Seat the

subje:t at one table and yourself at another, back to back and any distance apart. Tellhim you are to draw geometrical figures andhe must draw them. I-Ie will, if you concen-

trate, by keeping the pencil drawing till he

says "Done," He must draw the first thatcomes into his "mind's eye." You may thentake the nine digits; then pictures. Soonthese pictures will be transmitted easily. Iwas, not long ago, in a company of those whomeet to experiment and the subject was tryingto get the thought of a lady. He said: "I donot get en rapport with you. But I get a pic-ture from some one." Having described thepicture, a gentleman said: "Come to myofiice and I will show you that picture. Ifelt I could send a stronger thought and I sentthat picture."

Several ladies of my acquaintance mettwice a week for experiment. They tell me

of this: They took turns in being leader.Mrs. P. was leader this time. "I held the

thought." She said: "They all caught thesensation of devotion and faith, but Mrs. W.burst out in song, 'Thou Christ, art all I waut',which were the words I held." To thus getwords is rare and memory may account for thewords here.

Success depends ou the ability of the sub-

ject to keep from intending his mind and in

thinking as little as possible, and in the powerof concentration on part of the operator. But since each may easily learn there is no

reason why all, if they will persevere, may notthus come to its wonderful knowledge thatTlldllghf II /arf:

Divine Love is my Supply.BY ANNA IICGOWAN

(Author of "Wrinkles," "Supply," etc.,Los Angeles, Cal )

How ? The substance of all the realwealth, oppulence and power in thisvorld is Divine Love. Without it therecould be no permanent supply. Man mayamass wealth through sharp businesspractices, but unless tempered withDivine Love he is poorer than a beggar.I-Iis life is made miserable lest he loseit, and sooner or later it will go as itcame, by sharp transactions.

To make Divine Love my supply Imust draw from the great reservoir ofabundant supply by the same powerwhich creates that abundance. Thatpower is Love. By generating love inmy own life I form a connecting linkand a channel between myself and uni-versal wealth, through which abundanceof all things good shall flow to me, andthere shall be no fear oflosing it, for itis mine by Divine right and no one can

take it from me.

How will I generate this love? Byholding loving thoughts of everythingand everybody, "thy neighbor as thy-self" and more. I must love all mydisagreeable surroundings and limitedcircumstances; all my burdens andcrosses. Until I love them more thanI desire wealth, wealth will flee fromme. A good plan to generate love isto have this motto ever in your mind-1101/eyou! .

/Vhen you meet one who is unpleas-ant, say mentally, "I love you!" Toevery hateful task that comes as duty, say, "l love you!"

If your surroundings are unpleasantand the grind of poverty is upon you, say, "I love you!" looking it squarely

in the face. Later on you will see thatyou had reason to love them all.

This practice persevered in willsurely bring results. It is the law.But do not be disappointed if resultsdo not come at once. The law is notto blame because you have cloggedthe channel with envy, spite, revengeand greed.

When shall I generate this DivineLove? After I have gotten even withneighbor jones who makes his oppor-tunity to pasture his cowsin my corn, orto turn his chickens into my garden ?After I have settled with DeaconBrown for cheating me in horsetrade? After I have paid my compliments toMrs. Brown for scornfully passing me

unnoticed? Or after I have effectually"sat down" on Sister So-and-so forcriticising my last book? Nay, verily, ifI wait to do all this I will have thechannel between myself and my supplyso clogged that I may never make thcconnection. I will begin NOV.

Hypnotism and Suggestive Thera-peutics, are the coming means of relieffrom pain and the next step medicalmen will take, nay are taking, there-fore they offer to every student a wideand useful and profitable field of labor.See advertisement. I will form classesat any time and will guarantee thateach pupil shall understand the princi-ples and know how to apply them if heor she comes with an ordinary capacityfor receiving instruction.

The Higher Wisdom.BY H. W. DRESSER.

[Readers of NOW will enjoy this from theauthor of those most valuable works: "ThePo .ver of Silence "; The Perfect Whole";"Voice-| of Hope"; "In Search of a Soul,"and that very helpful book for all who wouldlearn to Liw Truth; " Living by the Spirit."In response to my request for a word for NOW,Mr. D esser, in a brptherly letter, sends this, saying: "Ii expresses my message, so I take itout of my store of 'Higher Law' material andsend it to you. May the peace of the Spiritbe with you in your labors, that you may lead

your readers on from amrmation to real za-

tion."]

The Higher Wisdom is a spontane-ous revelation or unfolding, in thesilent precincts of the human mind. Itis not necessary to rush about specula-ting and investigating. lt is not

necsssary to read all that is written, or

hear all that is said. Much may belearned in this way, and a certainfamiliarity with it is essential. But itis not the highest. To receive the high-est one must dedicate one's life to it.S:t apart a large proportion of time to

meditation and to silence. Life mustbe simplified. While the mind is fullof social and intellectual activities it issimply impossible for the Spirit toenter. And so those who attend lec-ture after lecture, and read book afterbook, always asking what they shall donext to be spiritual, must begin byeliminating this over-strenuous activity.lf you really are in earnest do not makeso many engagements, do not allowyourself to be hurried, give up three-fourths of your activities and dedicatethe rest to the Spirit.

Psychometry.Psychometry is soul-reading. The

psychometrist comes en rapport withthe spirit of his sitter through the lawsof vibrations, and the " Book of Life" isopened to him.

lt is better than Phrenology in de-lineating character, for it deals withcause, whereas Phrenology deals witheffects.

The psychometrist can thus advisethose who need, and give consolation, strength and hope. For only one whounderstands Spiritual conditions can

rightly advise, or properly help an-

other. l-le is the only person whoknows himself.

As one would go to doctor, minis-ter or friend come to him. Come in

sincerity, receive; weigh and use, as

commonsense directs, what is received.A Psychometric Reading includes a

delineation of character, of conditionand environment, mental and physical;diagnosis of disease; advice in busi-ness; advice as to choice of professionand the adapatbility of the person to

any line of business or profession; theresult of natural tendencies, with ad.vice as to how best to guide or restrainthem so that the soul developmentmay be harmonious and life happy.Answers given from the Soul side towhatever questions it may be properthus to answer.

These readings may be made fromletters, photographs, relics, a writtenname, a letter, or any article, or

directly through thought connection.Any method that will sufiice to con-

nect the mind of the reader with the

person or thing to be read. All who honestly desire to investi-

gate the New Philosophy,that declares

Thought to be a mode of motion, willEnd Psychometry to be the Open Doorto Life itself.

There are many excellent Psychom-etrists before the public, and that

they may fast increase is the prayer ofall who understand the need of Human-ity for that knowledge which is Self-Protection to the millions of sensitiveswho now, without it, are going into allthe various nervous diseases and to in-

sanity. The race must understand the

psychic laws and obey them, or pay a

severe penalty. To know and live with the laws of

SOUL is peace and all prosperity. Itis the province of Psychometry to re-

veal and demonstrate these laws in life.It reveals to consciousness the realworld of the SOUL. It is the inherentgift of God to each soul. Let him"who seeks, find" here as everywhere, the power that helps him to be his own

Destiny.

This is a supply number. Healthmeans Harmony. There is no har-mony in want, be it want of health, happiness or of means, wherewithal tocare for the body or of enjoyment.Health means in "Soul Culture" andin all true Mental Science, Health ofbody, mind, and estate. Harmonywith spiritual law means health, happi-ness and prosperity.

Poverty is the main cause of theunrest, the dis-ease, that afiiicts man-

kind. Remove poverty, by the rightmeans: (and that is by a change ofmental attitude) and all attendantevils will disappear. Therefore, itis the legitimate field of the Meta-physical teacher, of every school,to help his pupils to rise from povertyto opulence.

There is enough in the UniversalOne, from which all zhings materialize, for each one to have all desires metwithout robbing anyone.

Infinite Supply is all about us

Where is the fault? In ourselves. Wehave not known how to claim our

own. The law is simple and is laiddown by the greatest political econo-

mist, and scientist, as well as the great-est sociologist and socialist that theworld has in its historic records. Hewas not a theologian, neither did hedeal with questions ofa future life; butdid deal most practically with questionsof the "life that now is." His name is

Jesus. He gave the law thus: "Seek

first the Kingdom of God and hisrighteousness and all things shall beadded unto you."

Let the law be analyzed. "King-dom of God?" "It is within you," hesaid. '°God is Spirit," he again said. The kingdom of God then is the SOUL,the Ego. "Know thyself as spirit,"is the law. Live rightly; live in accordwith the Spirit; obey spiritual law;then all things shall be yours. "Things,"are manifestations of the one Spirit.

Plain directions: live spiritually, lovethe Good; then all things that are ma-

terialized from spirit shall be yours atdesire.

"First," yes! Not things first, butthe condition of mind. Love the Good!in faith trust the All Good! then De-sire! then Let it Come! This is All!But it is God. Few there be that en-

ter in at this straight gate becausethey love money or power or ostentation, etc., first. They love "Things," first.Reverse the process. You are theMaster; for you are One with God, are

recognizing the king in his regalauthority in His right place. "NowGod do your work," one can say whenhe has taken this attitude of expect-ancy, born in Desire and Trust. AndGod will do His work. It will be an

impotent god, that does not when theseconditions are made.

Poverty is much a mental conditionas is consumption or a cold, and can becured by the same means, i. e., Affirmyour possession of All, as part of theOne. Repeat this affirmation, no

matter what the appearances are; no

matter if hungry and houseless, affirmthat God is your supply and that youpossess all, as indivisible part of Him.Know that your poverty is the legiti-mate result of the beneficent law ofCause and Effect. You have sown

poverty-seeds in thought, and reap thecrop. Now, sow amid the results ofprevious sowing that you do not enjoy, the seeds of plenty, and as povertycame from' the first sowing, so willplenty come from the present. Sow!no matter how black the sky or howdamp the soil. The seeds have Godwithin them and cannot fail.

"I am supplied with all I want fromthe Infinite Substence." Let this bethe afiirmation until you realize thatall is yours, for God is in you and youin Him. You have thus re-polarizedyourself and will draw plenty, as themagnet draws the needle. Try it.

But keep on affirming till the Supplycomes. It will come.

Soul Culture. This term was first used by me in

a series of articles in a little paper in1888. I was the first person to applyit to a system of practical philosophy.I began to lecture and give lessons inSoul Culture in 1893, in Topeka. Sincethen others have taken up the wordand are teaching under it. I wish no

monopoly of the word nor the Truth.I am glad to see it becoming common,asI used it with the thought and thehope that in it there might be a unionin practical work of all metaphysicalschools. In the physical, the intellect-ual, the esthetic field, Culture standsfor no person's particular idea, but forthe general thought of unfoldment, so

may this word stand in the spiritualfield for all means that are intended to

develop soul power. This unity mustcome. It is the plan of the universe.Truth is one, and all these variousschools must unite in a practical workof redemption. Till then NOW willwork with all and oppose none. Allare good.

friend Brown, of NOW is of the same piece,[with Shelton,Struble, etc._] He says: 'God andI are one. God and I cannot be separated.' "Well Brother Haddock, since God is ALL, isthe infinite and everlasting Substance thatfills all space and since He (or IT) is every-where, I must believe, until you show me

how I can be out of the everywhere, that I am

somewhere and that where Iam God is. Sincetwo cannot occupy the same place at the same

time, I must conclude that God and Iare ONEand are only diierent names for the same

thing. God is the subjective and "I" am theobjective manifestation of the ONE Substance.Subjectively I am God; objectively I am HenryHarrison Brown. Make the conception of Godbig enough to include yourself and you willhave no trouble. Most people make too smalla God to include themselves. The God ofNOW is ALL.

A Graduate of HarvardNow in the publishing business in Boston,

writes of the April NOW:-"NOW came to-day.and really is quite exhilerating in its effect. The

paper on the whole is better than . The

editor is refined and has a knowledge of literature

that enables him to quote from the highest writ-

ings."PRATT, KANSAS.

I heard you speak the words,-"Now relax andPeace and Relief are yours "-three days before

your letter came. Init you said, "Now I speakfor you relaxation, peace and relief." Have beenbetter ever since. Mrs. L. K.

Dr. G. L. B. of La Crosse, Kan., says:-"I wishNOW godspeed. As for yourself, we are all one

and cannot wish each other anything." O, if allthe world could realize this; then, George, altruismwould usher in the millennium. It IS here whenWE feel it.

C. A, Wallace of Denver, writes:-In NOW I

recognize the able hand that wrote the beautilul

pearly expressions in the NEW MAN lor which I

am so thankful. Don't you know, for the last five

years I have been wishing that you would publish a

peper of your own. Everything comes to those

who wait!Gizovi: Crrv, PENN.

From Penn. Frank writes: "I have nothingbut gratitude and love for you for what yourletters have done for me in the past and I

know a letter from you will straighten me out

again. The poem "Peace" I have committedto memory and it serves me well."

`

I take so many Science papers that I feltthat I must call a halt, but your "journal ofAffirmations" captured me once more. The

April number is so good and right to the pointin every word, that I wish a few copies fordistribution. Mas. OLIVE C. H.,

NOWMrs. M. A. Reed, who has successfully

taught her classes in The Science of Being, from Cape Cod to Golden Gate, writes fromSpokane, Wash.: "NOWis full of pearss ofTruth. The afririnations are fine and to thepoint. The whole paper is a lesson. SUC-CESS is stamped upon its every page. Thebells are ringing; the flags are flying; NOWhas come to stay." "Yes, the world needs theNOW Atiirmations, therefore, it lux: come to

stay. God's errands never fail."

Your lovely little NOW is at hand and founda way to my heart at once. It is the paper ofall others and I read a great many metaphysicalpapers. Yours is all building and not a wordof destructiveness in it. _IENNIR E. W.,

V Pawtuclrett, R. I.

Royal S. Kellogg, once a teacher in theKansas State Agricultural College writes:The paper is You and I like its strong in-

dividuality. It is good for the blues. It is

refreshing to get hold of a publication that is

capable of recognizing Truth under more thanone aspect and whose mission is to reconcilerather than disrupt. The world is too lull ofselfish builders and I am glad you have takenthis stand for Freedom to da. The marginalquotations, are particularly good and appro-priate. I am glad you have such good ty po-graphical work and such an excellent paper."

A young Methodist minister writes fromOhio: "NOW came yesterday and it was themost refreshing baptism I have had for months.I do not know the secret ofyour optimism or ofthe inspiration which I received and do re-

ceive still when I come in contact with yourwords. Yet I am sure that it is there, for thewords carry the suggestion of peace and tran-

quility. Such is the effect of your NOW as Iread it. I must have some copies of that

poem "Peace. I have brightened many liveswith that which I had."

The NOW Course ol' Lessons inPsychomotry.

The reader's attention is called tothis course as advertised on last page.Psychometry is taught both as an artand as a science. The necessity ofsensitives understanding themselves isis more and more evidenced each dayby the increase of the nervous diseasesand insanity and unhappiness thatcomes from that condition. A course

in this line will be of untold benefit inthis particular alone. It will enablethe student to protect himself from allunpleasant vibrations and to come en

rapport with any he may choose. There is not before the American peo-ple another course like it or that willgive for the money so much valuableinformation. Those who take the $10course have the benefit of experimentsthat will convince them of their powerin this line and from it they will reapbenefits in health, happiness, useful-ness and prosperity. The lessons are

all new and prepared for those who needelementary instruction. Each readerof NOW may for the next 8 weekshave an extra subscription to NOWwith each $5 sent. Thus help yourfriends to the Light while helpingyourself.

"The World's Advanced 'I`hought",Lucy A. Mallory, editor, Portland, Ore.,

says of NOW: "Henry Harrison Brown, whose

writings on occult themes have made his name fan.il-iar all over the world, has commenced the publica-tion of a monthly journal entitled NOW, which willbe of great value to everyone who is interested in

SOUL-CULTURE, Self-Control and SpiritualUnfoldment." True, Lucy. I knew that one whowould journey fifty miles on Saturday to hear me

preach a Unitarian sermon on Sunday, would feelthat NOW was in its place when side by side withthe paper she his sacrificed for these many years,Now, john Anderson and his jo, we will go hand in

hand, but not "down the hill," but up, to SELF-MASTERY and ALL it implies.

It is a curious eff.-ct of looking through the tele-

scope to make one feel warm in a cold night; thatis to forget the body wholly. The soul seems to

assert its supremacy and to walk among the stars.

0nr Supply.God has provided in abundance, air for

all who breathe. There is no need for any one

to struggle for it. It is unnecessary to hoard it;it is impossible "to get up a corner" on it.A sutiiciency is all that is desired All, too,may share equally in the sunshine; people donot have to tight for it. Under the greatspiritual law of co-operation will come, with

equal ease, all the other neceessries of l fe-wrthout struggle, without greedy or avaricious

thoughts, and without injustice. People will

besurprised to find that under this law so littleeflo t, on the material plane, will produce re-

sults so great. There will be spiritual opu-lence and intellectual wealth, but economy of

bodily wants, for the greater the spiritualgrowth the simpler the physical wants and thefewer the material desires.

Let ns, therefore, not debase the spiriiualideal by arousing the selfish nature in men,

under the claim that the development of

spiritual forces will give the power to "make

money" and to "get rich". This is unworthyof occult teachers, and debasing to the spirit-ual nature. Let us rather teach men to seek

growth through the unfolding of inner powers, which will bring the "new heaven," and thento live in harmony with the divine law of co-

operation, which will alone bring the "newearth."

Charlet Ermndl Banu: in june "Mrna".

Mental Science journal) says: "A journal of

atlirmations, called NOW, is on our exchangetable It is filled with the spirit of health, strength, peace, prosperity-good all the waythrough its eight pages, and vindicates itsname and purpose."

"SeIf."(Mrs. Norris' paper, Oakland, Cal.)-ls

in the june issue fully up to the standard setin the first number. It has this good wordfor NOW. "If you wantto know how to livenaw, write to Henry Harrison Brown, editor ofNOW. There is no philosophy for NOW butthis: "I am one with the Father."

"Christian,"Has the largest circulation among all

the Mental Science papers and is the strong-est. It is goo l, therefore, to have its individ-ualized editor, whose opinion nothing can

buy, s\y as he does in the june number ofNOW. "NOW, Henry Harrison Brown's new

Book Table.NOW wishes it had ten pages this

month to say all it would of the good thingsthat are on its table. It can only name a fewand say a word:

"\\'rrrnr|es,"Their cause and cure. By Anna M:-

Gowau, author of "Supply," Los Angeles, Cal.Price 50 cents. Address author.

Read Mrs. McGowan's article in this andsee how she can handle this subject. It is be-

yond price to all who would keep perpetualyouth.

"The Sphynx."An Astrological Monthly, $3.00 per year.

Boston, Mass. This is a most astonishing rev-

elation of the growth of this science. lt has

sixty-two pages this month well filled with

interesting matter.

"Atl vance Science Journal."

Harry Gaze, Oakland, Cal., $1.00 peryear. It is the latest of the new journals to

reach the table. It is°devoted to "The ad-vancement of physical immortality."

"Lessons In 'l'ruth."

By H. Emilie Cady, Unity Tract Society,Kansas City, Mo. Price 75 cents. These are

the best course of Lessons NOW has ever rearl, and it recommends them. They are free from

dogmatism, and do not offend the rationslist

by using Ilihle as authority. They are full of

gool sense with a common sense view of

Scripture.

"Living by the Spirit."By Horatio W. Dresser, G. W. l'utman's

Sans. New York City. Price 75 cents. Thisis the best book NOW has found for the he-

ginner. It is from a cultivated man. His

style is more Emersonian than any otherwriter in Mental Science. It has no theolog-ical basis and is free from all verbosity. It

can be understood by the average reader and

yet it will serve as a text book for a life time.Such is the simplicity and yet the profuudityof Truth.

" Wrinkles,"

_By Anna McGowan, Los Angeles,

Cal., (50 cts.) is one of the most prac~tical of books. To look at the photo-graph of the author at fifty-seven yearsof age and mistake her for a woman

of thirty is warrant enough that shehas something of importance to tellconcerning the carrying of youth inspite of years. Obtained of the au-

thor.

"The New Name."Seven Lessons in the Science of Being_

By Dr. George W. Carey, San Francisco, Cal.Author of "Tire lliochemic System of Healing,Src." Price 50 cents. Sold by the author.(See a lv.) The difference between this systeman-l Mental Science is not at first apparent.NOW can only differ with the author in hiscon :eption of matterand spirit being eternallydistinct. These quotations are good enoughfor NOW: "There is no Mental Science, or.Ili/rl /t'/ianng, apart from Spirit or InfiniteIntelligence. Mind is Being, and Being isMind. So there, can be but one science or realknowing. When we realize eternal one-

ness and perfection there is nothing more

to overcome, for Truth is eternal. Man isGod in expression. A belief in Evil is thecause of all unhappiness. We do not tire at

play. It is thoughts-the operation of mindon body-worry, fear, and anxious thoughtsfor the morrow, that tire." The peculiartheory of Dr. Cary's does not appear till thelast lesson. It is this: "We shall direct fromthe air produce, as Nature now does, all thefood and material we need. Wool, cotton, flax.silks, etc are all produced from the elementsthrough the slow, laborious and costly processof animal and vegetable growth. Why not

produce it direct?" But get the book andstudy it.

"The l-'att of the Land and Howto Live on lt."A practical cook and text book for gen-

eral use. By Ellen Goodell Smith. For sale

by author, Pansy Park, Dwight, Mass. Pricenot given, but probably §r.oo and it is worth a

library. It teaches how to live without takinglite and sets a tempting bill of fare made fromgrains, fruits, nuts, vegetables and milk. With chapters on nut and vegetable oilsand how to use them in cooking; and how tofeed infants, and much more of interest on thefood problem. The author is a practicingM. D. and her book is the most valuable, inthis line, NOW has ever seen. \Vhile NOW isnot vegetarian, it is simply because it has not

yet been tempted to lay aside all animal foodtor something better. Still it is, no doubt, the way ofevolution and in time msn will out-

grow all desire for anything but the simplestfoods and will entirely eschew meats. Couldthe tables be set with such meals as this bookrecommends, it would soon see the beauty, utility and glory ofa simple diet.
