3NATIONAL ACTION COUNCIL FOR MINORITIES IN ENGINEERING, INC. / WWW.NACME.ORG

NACME was formed in 1974, when a group of corporate and educational leaders came together to collaborate on large-scale issues relating to attracting diverse talent to the field of engineering.

J. Stanford Smith, then senior vice president of General Electric Company, inspired attendees at the En-gineering Education Conference with an urgent call to develop the technological talent in minority com-munities. “The only acceptable solution,” he said, “is to take bold, innovative, all-out action to increase the supply of minority engineering graduates, not by a few percentage points, but ten or fifteen-fold.”

Today, the NACME Board of Directors remains the most senior group of executives dedicated to identify-ing solutions to the diversity challenges our nation faces in the fields engineering and computer science.

Companies that are selected to serve on NACME’s Board of Directors commit to implement the mission by:

• Nominating a Board Director who is within two reporting levels of the company’s CEO• Committing to significant support of NACME programs and events • Engaging the company’s CEO to attend NACME’s Gala and to record a custom message for NACME Scholars• Investing in NACME at a significant financial level• Interviewing a minimum number of NACME Scholars for internships, co-ops and/or full-time positions, and• Ensuring NACME is branded in the company’s diversity marketing, website, social media, advertising campaigns, and other outlets

NACME offers a variety of programs, our highest level of recognition and numerous benefits to the com-panies represented on the Board of Directors including:

NACME BOARD MEMBER BENEFITS • Company Logo on NACME Website• Board Member title, company name and picture listed on NACME’s board page• Invitation to two physical board meetings per year• Listed as sponsor of the NACME Scholarship Program• Sponsorship of a NAMED Corporate Scholar• Sponsorship of a Bridge Scholar• NACME Career Center (NCC) - Complimentary Access• NACME Virtual Career Fair - Discounted Access• Other targeted sponsorships to be negotiated

BRIDGE SCHOLARSUniversity summer bridge programs have become a critical part of the effort to recruit, retain, and graduate a population of underrepresented students in engineering and computer science. Studies clearly suggest that summer bridge programs for underrepresented students help facilitate transition, adjustment to university life, improve academic performance and overall graduation rates. NACME Bridge Scholars receive support to attend a bridge camp at the NACME Partner institution they will be attending in the fall. Support includes camp registration fees, living stipend, and/or travel support. Bridge Scholars will also receive tuition support for their freshman year of matriculation. NACME Bridge Scholars will be offered an interview with a NACME Employer for a potential internship the summer before their sophomore year.

C.A.S.E. ACADEMY - CAREER ACCELERATOR IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING When you hire a NACME Scholar for a full-time position you can be ensured they are career ready due to our best in class Career Accelerator programs. NACME offers year-long professional development programs that include virtual workshops to reinforce key information, introduce the students to newspeakers and industry leaders, and create a sense of community during the school year. New NACME Scholars attend our annual NACME Summit for orientation and to learn competitive tools for developing their resume, LinkedIn page, technical and business case interview training, among other tools. The CASE Academy also services upperclassmen through our leadership and technical development workshops on topics relevant to our hiring sponsors. Recent examples include artificial intelligence, data mining, and project management certification. Sponsors of the C.A.S.E. Academy receive branding on our virtual education platform, speaker opportunities at workshops, as well as an opportunity to suggest content relevant to your companies’ unique needs.

NAMED CORPORATE SCHOLARSStudies indicate that students who have collegiate internship experiences have better success in the completion of their under-graduate program, NACME offers a Named Corporate Scholars program to top performing scholars. Above and beyond our core scholarship program, sponsors can support a named scholarship. Each sponsor will have the opportunity to define the specific eligibility requirements of their named scholarship program, e.g., minimum GPA, major, preferred undergraduate institution, academic level (e.g. sophomore - senior level), state of residence, etc. The selected scholars will receive tuition support plus a required internship the immediate summer after the named scholarship is awarded.
