NACOThe Nevada Association of Counties (NACO) was founded in 1924 and is a nonpartisan, nonprofit corporation. The membership is composed of Nevada's county government officials and represents all seventeen Nevada counties.

Mission Statement:To encourage county government to adopt and maintain local, regional, state and national cooperation which will result in a positive influence on public policy and optimize the management of county resources; to provide valuable education and support services that will maximize efficiency and foster public trust in county government.

Meets at least monthly to monitor federal legislation and rulemaking, state agency actions, and to formulate recommendations to the NACO Board of Directors regarding NACO’s position on pending legislation or regulations. The Committee also develops recommendations regarding NACO’s Bill Draft Requests.

Public Lands and Natural Resources

The Public Lands and Natural Resources Committee (PLNR) adopted the following Mission

Statement:

The mission of the NACO Public Lands and Natural Resources Committee is to monitor and analyze the activities of the United States and Nevada governments and private advocacy groups as they relate to policy regarding the use of public lands and the natural resources they contain and to make recommendations to the NACO Board of Directors for the formulation of NACO policy and resultant direction to staff.

Wild Horse and Burro Population Control Efforts Renewable Energy Development on Public Lands Establishment of Travel Management Plans / Resource Management Plans Potential Listing of the Greater Sage Grouse as an Endangered Species Special Designations of Public Lands (Monuments, etc.)

ACIRThe ACIR report recommended that the SB264 Committee Submit the Following Three BDRs: To Establish the Nevada Commission for Intergovernmental Relations To Amend the Nevada Constitution to Allow Counties to Adopt Charters To Grant Functional Home Rule to Local Governments

ACIRThe ACIR will continue to meet until it expires on June 30, 2011. The committee plans to further study the following issues:

NACO Workshops

NACO has begun a series of workshops as a means of providing information on topics of interest to County officials and staff and other interested persons.
