Dear NAEM Forum Attendees:

Welcome to the 15th Annual NAEM Forum. We know that you have many conferences

to choose from and we are excited that you chose this Forum. We believe the peer-to-

peer learning that occurs in the Forum is the best way to advance EH&S programs of all

sizes, both in industrial and non-industrial settings.

As EH&S professionals, we’ve had to learn how to manage and incorporate new issues

into our already full plate of the standard EH&S issues. The challenge before all of us is

to do this effectively while meeting our individual company’s EH&S performance goals

and objectives.

During the Forum, you will meet likeminded, experienced professionals from many

different sectors that are dealing with similar issues you are managing. One benefit of

the NAEM Forum, is that you can network with these professionals and develop great

relationships. Relationships can be an important tool for effective management. Take

advantage of this opportunity. “Steal shamelessly.” It will save you a lot of time and

effort!

Enjoy the Forum!

P.S. I personally would like to thank NAEM for giving me the opportunity to serve as Forum Chair. I

have thoroughly enjoyed working with the dedicated staff and committee this year. Please join me

in thanking Ana Fernandez for stepping up as next year’s Forum chair. With your input and her

leadership we will continue the tradition of having outstanding conferences. Leslie

IMPLEMENTATION OFCOURAGEOUS LEADERSHIP FOR SAFETY AND HEALTHWith environment, safety and health, the path to changeis not as clear-cut as it is elsewhere. Is there a “silverbullet”? Ghandi said, “we must be the change we wish to see.”Change begins when an organization or individual realizes that while what they have done beforemay have gotten results, it is not the results they aretruly looking for. This presentation will focus on some ofthe Courageous Leadership course examples.
