    The NICs Childrens Japanese ClassThis course is taught by volunteers and is designed for children(born between April 2, 1998 and April 1, 2007) whose nativelanguage is not Japanese. International marriage and permanentresidency, among other multicultural issues have been on the riseand although ultimately we seek to improve multiculturalco-existence, we feel that we could be doing more than simplyproviding foreigner support by focusing more on the forma-tion of a truly harmonious multicultural environment for oursociety.     The Power of CharactersThis exhibition sheds light on the history of Kanji and its evolutionthrough the ages. Used on paper, wood, cloth, pottery, metal andstone, characters have left their mark and have in some cases for ourexhibits, slept in hiding for over 1000 years. Long and thin pieces ofwood, known as mokkan (), are the main attraction of thisexhibition, as many have been discovered in the Aichi region, amongmany other artefacts which continue to be uncovered to this day.     HoshashinjiA traditional Shinto ritual held annually at Atsuta Shine. Three pairsof Shinto priests take turns shooting arrows at a target. A total of 36arrows are shot, when the last arrow hits the target, spectators rushto pick up pieces of the target that the arrows broke up as it isbelieved that bits of the target help keep away bad luck.
