When people burn wood, the wood changes into ashes. There is no way to change the ashes back into wood.

When you blow up a balloon, it gets bigger. The material the balloon is made of stretches and gets thinner. You changed the shape of the balloon, too. Does the color change? How is it different?

You can use flour, sugar, eggs and other things to make a cake. You can not change a cake back into the things you mixed together.

Nature can change things. You can swim in a lake in the summer. You can skate on a lake in the winter. In the winter, the water can freeze and change into ice. In the spring, the ice melts.

Look at these pictures. Why is one nail shiny? Why is one nail rusty?

The shiny nail may be new. The rusty nail may be old. Oxygen can make things that are made of iron or steel turn rusty.

Things Can ChangeSometimes the size and shape of a thing can change. Sometimes the color can change. Sometimes things are changed forever.
