14/12/18 Whole School Big Day Out
17/12/18 Year 6 Farewell / Family Fun Night
19/12/18 Last Day of year for Students
Welcome to week 7. We had another exciting week with our students being part of the Park Beach Plaza
Santa Parade. There was much excitement and it was incredible to see so many people come to see the
Parade. Thank you to all our parents who brought students to this event. A big thank you also goes to Park
Beah Plaza who donated $200 to our end of yar raffle. This will be put in as two prizes of $100. So if you
have not sold your book of tickets, time is running out.
This Thursday is the Coffs Central Christmas event where our K-2 and 3-6 Choir sudents perform for Santa.
We always welcome any student who wishes to be part of this event. Coffs central is organising a sandwich
and drink for NGPS Choir students only to have before hand. Please meet staff and I at the Lady A Café at
6pm when we will organise students to have shared platters of sandwiches and a drink. As the Café is
providing this food, please be aware it is only for the NGPS students who are performing. We will then
assemble at 6:30pm near city square to perform at 6:40pm. Please wear full school uniform and a Santa
hat. At the moment we have 65 children who have indicated that they are coming so it is going to be a
wonderful event. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
We have had Lincoln down in Sydney this week for the Australian National Championships. As I said in our
Face Book post, Lincoln would like to reveal his news so we are waiting for his return. I will say the staff
and I were very proud to see Lincoln demonstrate wonderful sportsmanship at the end of his 800m. A
competitor had fallen at the finish line and Lincoln was the only one who went over and help this runner
onto his feet and then congratulated every runner in the race. A proud Principal moment Lincoln. Well
done and we can’t wait for you to return and tell us your news.
Our Presentation evening is coming up very quickly. Thursday the 13th December at 5pm sharp. We have
our Director, Educational Leadership, Mrs Murray coming , the Principal of Orara High Mr MacFarlane as
well as delegates from the Lions Club, Mr Eyre. We also have our new Flag poles and 125 year pavers going
in at the moment so hope to have a special ceremony at the beginning of our night. Please bring along a
seat as we never have enough to seat everyone. We do ask that as this is a formal occasion, we ask that
little ones don’t play on the equipment (but we will have the sandpit open for supervised play), and older
students to please be respectful of our night with behaviour and not play basketball on the court.
We have a P&C meeting this Wednesday so if you are available to attend at 3pm, we would love to see you
there in the staffroom. We have the end of year Family Fun Night to organise as well as promote our end
of year raffle. Tickets are available at the office. Any further donations can also be sent in to the office.
Have a great week!

What’s going well in Class 5/6 Year 5 students are to be commended for their captain speeches.
Many of our upcoming leaders demonstrated the importance of
preparation and thought when presenting themselves as contenders
for next year’s school captains. I know each year, the voting is
extremely close, and I am sure that this year will prove to be another
close race.
Year 6 have been attending a range of orientation and familiarisation
days at their respective High Schools. Each time students come back
from these days they are more excited about next year and all the
possibilities. Next week our Year 6 students will be invited to join Mrs
Nicholls to the Orara Valley Principal’s Big Day Out. This is a fun day to
celebrate the end of the students’ primary years.
This week, Year 5/6 experimented with building houses using code.org.
As many of our students are familiar with block coding they were able
to dive straight in and enjoy their ti me in this program. In Drama
lessons, the students have been enjoying presenting a variety of
improvisation scenarios in small groups, taking on a range of character
roles in different settings.
Swimming for Sport Term 4 Swimming for Sport this term has finished for the term due to
Intensive Swimming starting this week. Week 9 (14 December) is our
Big Day Out. This day has also been funded by our Sporting Schools
Grant application, so there is no cost to families.
Intensive Swimming Scheme Intensive Swimming Scheme has commenced this week. Students will need to ensure they have their
swimmers, rash shirt, towel, swim bag and dry underwear each day. We encourage students to wear
goggles if they are sensitive to the water in the pool.
Library Overdue Notices Library stocktake will commence this week. If your child(ren) have any books at home, please send them
back to school. Overdue notices are sent home this week as a gentle reminder to search high and low for
any library books at home.

P&C News As the end of the year is coming upon us we have our school raffle going well so don’t forget if the children finish their book to send in their tickets and their money and we can exchange over for a new book with the name in the raffle for a new bike. We would like to thank Mrs Nicholls for organising this. It’s a great way to start the Christmas holidays off with the extra treat to win. We also thank Park Beach Plaza for the vouchers for two more prizes. Please send any more donations for prizes into the office this week so we can finalise this to be drawn on our family Fun Night. There’ll be more information coming your way about the family fun night but I can tell you now there will be live music provided for our entertainment. We look forward to seeing you all so keep watching this space. Next P&C meeting is on Wednesday the 28 November at 3:00pm in the staff room. Your support is greatly appreciated and we would love to see new faces here at this meeting. Thank you

WEEK 7 COMMUNITY NEWS Nana Glen Public School does not endorse any product or services advertised.
Advertisements, will run for a maximum of five weeks, unless prior arrangement with the school. Koalas Need Your Help! Have you spotted a koala lately? Would you be prepared to help Council learn more about our koalas, how they’re doing and where they currently can still be found in the Coffs Harbour local government area?
Council is undertaking a survey as a vital part of the groundwork to review the Koala Plan of Management. The survey and information from the community and landholders will help Council understand exactly where koalas can be found.
We’d encourage everyone to get involved in the koala survey and log their findings to our Koala Register at Koala Register It’s a great way to help conserve a much loved and iconic Australian species that we are very lucky to be living with.
Coffs Harbour was the first council in NSW to adopt a Koala Plan of Management back in 2000 with the aim of encouraging the proper conservation and management of koala habitat areas to help protect these important animals and, ultimately, promote growth in their populations.
Last year, an independent review commissioned by the NSW Government also named Coffs Harbour as one of a number of areas with a significant koala population.
That same review revealed that koala populations are under increasing pressure and have declined in many parts of NSW by an estimated 26% over the past 15 to 21 years. Without positive management actions this level of decline is likely to continue.
To register your sightings, go to Koala Register The revised draft Koala Plan of Management is due to be completed by June 2020.
