Welcome to week 2. It has been great to see the

classes return straight down to learning. Lots of

preparation has been going into Education week

performances for next week. We look forward to

seeing lots of our parents, grandparents and

extended family members to different events next

week.

Education Week Events:

Monday – Our K-2 Choir and 3-6 Choir are

heading to Park Beach Plaza to Perform at

11:10am. Family members are very welcome to

attend this performance. Students will catch a bus

and return to school straight after. Please ensure

your child’s permission note is returned this week.

Tuesday – The OVLC Athletics Carnival is on and all those students who qualified to attend this event will be heading

off. Once again, students will be catching

a bus and returning back to school in

time for afternoon buses. A new

permission note will go home today and

must be returned by Friday 2 August

2019. Students attending this carnival

need to be at school by 8:15am.

Thursday – Our School Assembly

followed by Open Classrooms and our

Coffs Harbour Cup- Gazetted Public Holiday Thursday 1st August

The Minister for Industrial Relations has once again

declared a local part day public holiday from

12:00noon to 5:30pm on Thursday 1st August for the

Coffs Harbour City Council area. I am notifying

everyone in advance that all children will need to be

collected from school at 12:00noon. Buses and

Country Cubs are not running at this time and

appropriate arrangements need to be organised for

your child to be picked up from school at 12:00noon.

Page 2: NANA GLEN PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER › content › dam › ... · P&C Newsletter . Hello Everyone . A couple of things to inform our school community about this week. Firstly, the

Book Fair. We would also like to invite parents to bring along a picnic lunch and stay to have lunch with your child.

Normal classes will resume after lunch at 12:05pm.

Our Book Fair will be set up this week in the library for students to view the books available for purchase. Students

will come home with information and a wish list of the books they like, however there is never any intention that

parents must purchase.

Boo Early Arrivals – We are finding that we are getting an increasing number of students arriving at school before

8:30am. Please remember that staff are not required to be at school until 8:30am and the first duty does not start

until 8:50am. If parents do need to have students arrive early, it is important that this is pre-arranged when students

are arriving, it is imperative that the parent ensures that any teacher that is here, is aware that students are present.

Pie Drive – Our P&C have our next event happening now. Orders are due this Thursday and delivery is next week.

Well done to our Premiers Multicultural Speaking Competition competitors who presented their speeches last

Thursday. These three girls had to present using the Connected Classroom where their audience is at different

schools across the area. They accepted this challenge and did not let this phase them. Congratulations girls, you all

did very well and should be very proud of yourselves.

Have a great week,

Mrs D.Nicholls

Premier’s Reading Challenge The PRC student site is available again this year! Students can search for books to read, add books to their reading

logs, and track their progress throughout the challenge. You can find the site at Premier's Reading Challenge Student

Site and there is a useful help video available to demonstrate how the site works.

What’s Going Well in 2/3 Year 2/3 has had a great start back to term! This term students have already taken ownership of their learning and

time at school by developing and writing their own personal goal. This is going to be displayed in the room for students

to regularly reflect on their progess. This will be on the wall during Open Day in Week 3 for parents and family members

to see. Students are very exicted to be doing Gymnastics this term and will be creating, performing and filming their

own ruotines in groups using the GoPros.

In the holidays I took time to analyse stduents reading data and it is fantastic to see how much growth students are

making! I want to keep encouraging students to continue doing their home reading even if it’s with a special book you

have purchased yourself.

What’s Going Well in 1/2 Class 1/ 2 have made a fantastic start to Term 3. Within writing e are leaning how to create persuasive texts. We have

discovered that persuasive texts try to convince a reader of an idea or to do something. We have learned how to

gather ideas, and are beginning to plan our arguments. In mathematics we have begun to discover counting patterns

and how to find a rule within a pattern. We are finding out how to use chance and luck to our advantage as well. We

are excited to work with Ms. Hadaway this term. She will be teaching us when we learn about Science and Geography.

For Physical Education this term we are learning about Gymnastics. We are learning new skills to help us bend, stretch

and warm up properly. Well done to the wonderful start shown by all students this term, I am excited to see the

learning and new discoveries that we make.

Absences Although there has much sickness over the last term, it is very important that children are at school every day that

they are physically well enough. Attendance at school is a compulsory requirement and is monitored to maintain high

levels of attendance. Research has shown that student social and educational growth is much stronger with regular

attendance. Every day a child misses at school equates to two whole days of learning as they first need to catch up,

while new learning is occurring. In addition, partial attendance is also a concern as students can miss key lessons and

messages. Letters will go home as part of the DoE policy to remind parents of attendance requirements. Please contact

me if you are concerned or wish to discuss this further.

Nana Glen Public School P&C Newsletter

Hello Everyone

A couple of things to inform our school community about this week.

Firstly, the Canteen Roster is included in this newsletter. Please note that if you are unable to fulfil the day you have

been rostered on, could you please find someone to replace you or swap with someone else to ensure no gap is left.

Kelly West has returned this term, Welcome back Kelly, we are glad you are back.

We have been working through our Healthy Canteen Criteria with the Rep assigned to our school. For us to keep

our “Healthy Canteen” status, we must adhere to the criteria that is set by the Department of Education and the

Healthy Canteen Board.

As such, some items have been added to the Menu and some removed from the Menu so we continue to meet the

Healthy Canteen Status. From next week, the Nachos will be removed from the menu and Vegetarian Pizzas will be

added to the Menu. Should any further changes occur, we will notify the school community through this

newsletter.

Please note this is not a decision of the P&C but

a requirement of the Healthy Canteen criteria.

The Pie Order Forms for our P & C Pie Drive,

went home last week. Orders are due in this

Thursday 1st August with payment for your

order. You can collect your order on Thursday

8th August from School

Page 7: NANA GLEN PUBLIC SCHOOL NEWSLETTER › content › dam › ... · P&C Newsletter . Hello Everyone . A couple of things to inform our school community about this week. Firstly, the

Health Lunch Box

Packing healthy lunches for kids can be daunting sometimes. Term three is about to start and with Cancer Council

NSW’s Healthy Lunch Box website (healthylunchbox.com.au) this task can be easier. The website is full of recipes, ideas

and tips, and includes an interactive lunch box builder to help parents and their kids plan a healthy lunch box at home,

or on the move with their smartphone or tablet.

The Healthy Lunch Box website shows parents how easy it can be to incorporate more fruit and veg and pack a lunch

box that their kids will love to eat, while setting up habits that have lifelong cancer prevention benefits.

The Healthy Lunch Box website makes things a lot easier for parents. They know that what they pack will give kids

enough fruit and vegetables in their lunch box every day. Plus, the recipes are easy and quick to prepare.

One in three cancer cases can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle, which includes eating well, being active

and maintaining a healthy weight. But only seven per cent of NSW children eat enough vegetables, and 21 per cent of

children are overweight or obese. We know that a child will eat around 2,500 lunches throughout their time at school,

so we want to make it as simple as possible for parents to make healthy eating easy, interesting and engaging for their

kids. The lunch box builder is a great way to get your kids involved in what’s in their lunch and it’s a great learning tool,

even for parents and the fussiest of eaters!

Adding fruit and vegetables to the lunch box every day is a simple way to ensure children are getting the vitamins,

minerals and fibre they need to fuel concentration in the classroom, improve their health, and prevent 12 different

adult cancers.

Visit healthylunchbox.com.au and pack a healthy lunch box today!
