Stepping up…

We are doing a unit called Step Up in language arts. We talked about how stepping up can mean a lot of things: stepping up for something you believe, speaking out against injustices, stepping in to help someone in need. Our participation in the Banner Festival is one example of stepping up to help our community. Thanks for inviting us, Sue and Brenda!

I stepped up because our class was able to go to the Banner Festival on Wednesday and Thursday because of me. My aunt worked for the Nanaimo Art Gallery’s Banner Festival and she talked with Mrs. Younk about having Fairview students paint banners. We painted all day Wednesday and Thursday. Trey and I ate lunch at Subway. The banners were beautiful but they took time.

The Nanaimo Art Gallery said that they didn’t have enough banners, so I said I would make one. It was so much fun for me because I like to paint and outline, too. I felt good about my banner because it will be hung up downtown for everyone to see.

I stepped up and in one day I finished my banner. I did it in three hours with a lot of help from my friends! It was really neat. It represents Canada really well. There were Canadian maple leaves all over it and a bear. The leaves were all sorts of colours and the bear was brown and the background was black.

I stepped up. I worked really hard. I loved to do banners. I had a good time when I made banners. That was fun when we all worked together.

I went down to Port Place Mall to paint banners but since I did not have time to draw one I helped Courtney. I also helped Danica. I did lots of outlining and painting. I also got lots great pictures of everyone’s banners. The only thing I did not like about going there was all the walking.

We went to go paint our banners from 9:30 to 2:30 on Wednesday and Thursday. We made them at Port Place Mall. When we got there, we had to paint both sides of the canvas banner and outline our edges in black. I was very happy about my banner. Near the end I got really busy.
