Long Tradition

Despite a lifetime of moving around the United States as part of a military family, I have always regarded the coastal areas of Maryland and Virginia as home, and that is where I have lived for the past 23 years. In July 2004. my husband, Carl, and I became the owners of the South Street Art Gallery (www.southstreetartgallery.com) in Easton, Maryland where I have a studio on the second floor of the gallery. My love of the Chesapeake Bay area is evident in many of my landscapes and I enjoy painting en plein air as often as possible.

Starting my artistic career as a portrait painter, I still enjoy painting occasional portraits. However, in 1997 I began combining my interest in the figure with that of the landscape, resulting in a series of figurative beach paintings that has gained recognition and acceptance in galleries coast to coast. Recently I have been concentrating on "contemporary life" and two of my "restaurant series" paintings have received awards.

Since 1997 I have had eight solo shows in five commercial galleries and at the Lombardi Cancer Clinic at Georgetown University Medical Center in the District of Columbia. In 2004, my painting “The Pink Scarf” was chosen as one of twelve paintings which represented the 3000 member Art League of Alexandria during their 50 year anniversary gala celebration. In 2004, my work was published by International Artist Publishing in a book titled How Did You Paint That? 100 Ways to Paint People. Paintings of mine have appeared on the covers of Capitol Hill Magazine, Washington Woman Magazine, the Peachtree Papers of Atlanta, Georgia, the Star Democrat, Art & Antiques Magazine and most recently, The Nature Conservancy Magazine (Spring 2008).

I am a member of the almost 100 year old Washington Society of Landscape Painters www.wslp.org,  the Oil Painters of America, and the Working Artists Forum in Easton. In 2004, I was one of the primary organizers of the first annual Easton Plein Air Competition and Arts Festival. www.pleinair-easton.com. and served as the Competition Chairperson in 2005 and 2006. I continue to serve on the Plein Air Easton Advisory Board.
