What’s Inside

Another year is coming to an end and it’s time to party! Don’t miss our June Guild meeting where our members will be sharing those “completed” projects that they had stashed away in their closets. This will replace our usual Show and Tell for the month. For every UFO that you signed up on the commitment sheet and bring to share (completed), you will ear 1 entry into our drawing.

Instead of a speaker, we will enjoy eating ice cream with all kinds of toppings. We’ll be shopping for fresh strawberries and ba-nanas. We’ll be looking for nuts and unique toppings as well. Join us for all the fun at 1:30 on June 19th. We will also have our drawing for the basket at the end of the Show and Tell. Make sure you get your ticket signed

and into the drawing.

As I sit here writing this ar-ticle, I realize that this will be my final article as your Program Chair. It has been a great three years and I have met some fantastic speakers

and teachers along the way. What a wonderful way to get to know our members as well. I know Debbie Kelton and Donna Haynes are going to do a great job next year and I encourage all of you to volunteer to help.

I hope everyone en-joyed Peggy Martin as much as I did. It was fun to see how she takes a tradition-al block and turns it into a unique design.

Everyone who took her class had a great time too. We had members who were new to paper piecing and real pros at it. Here are some pictures of all of the fun.

BEYOND TRADITION Nancy Palmer

President’s Message We now have a new slate of officers ready to start in July. I would like to wel-come them, both the ones new to the board and the ones that are returning for another year! Don’t forget, it takes all the members to make this great Guild work. New and returning chairmen of committees will be looking for helpers very soon. If you can continue to help, that would be wonderful, but if you can’t maybe someone can volunteer to take your place.

I have had an enjoyable year as your president. I’ve learned to use the micro-phone, helped get us into a new meeting place and can now put faces with names that I have become familiar with over the years that I have been in the Guild. I am stepping down as president, but I will continue to be very involved with this guild and all its activities and wonderful quilters.

Mary Jo Henry, CPQ President

I would like to invite all old board member and the new and returning board members and committee chairmen to my house for an end-of-year potluck on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at 6:00pm. You may bring any sort of dish that you want and I’ll provide the utensils, plates, cups, napkins and drinks (ice tea, wa-ter, sodas). A fun get-together for the old and the new. Hope to see you here. My address is: 2508 Judith St. Mary Jo Henry, CPQ President

A Thimbleful of Wisdom

“I understand the concept of cooking and Cleaning, just not as it applies to me.”

I just heard that our own CeCe Westerfield has been chosen to be the Featured Artist for the 2015 Best of the Valley Quilt Show. Such a prestigious honor! CeCe’s motto is “Aspire to In-spire before you Expire.” I think she is living it! CeCe, this is very exciting news. Can’t wait to see your quilts all together in the front row booth next year.

Special thanks to Ruth Snedden for wearing several hats at our last meeting. I was unable to get back into town in time for our meeting so Ruth was kind enough to greet many of you and collect your isolettes. Ruth told me that nobody threw tomatoes because there were no isolette kits. (I’ll make it up to you at our next meeting by having some super kits made up from new material recently pur-chased by the Guild.) I know many of you are getting “itchy” feet to travel so won’t you “sew-ahead” so all through our summer months we’ll be able to provide at least 10 isolettes to each of our four hospitals. Thank you in advance. Labels?? - Please call if you need one and I’ll put it in the mail! 301-7173 Drop by our table, pick up an isolette kit and be sure to get your “kiss”...and a hug when you drop off your completed isolette! Remember…..32”x32”, washed and labeled. Deanie Hogan (day) 872-1972 Jim Rupp (night) 831-7672

Judy has been a member of the Guild since 2000. She’s been in charge of the quilt racks, storage unit, and donated to Loving Hands. She’s been our Histo-rian and chaired the Quilt Challenge. Judy ran the Country Store at the 2014 Quilt Show. She will be the Chairman of the 2016 Quilt Show. There could be some other things we are not aware of.

The Board has voted her an Honorary Life Membership!

From The Nominating Committee

Have you ever looked at a really pretty appliqued quilt and wondered how on earth they made it? It might be magic or it might be that the maker knows a few good tricks to getting it done. Applique Made Easy is a book from the Rodale’s Suc-cessful Quilting Library, and it covers nearly every ap-plique approach you can imagine. Whether you are in-terested in hand or machine applique, this book has the instructions you need. Chock full of color photos, it clearly and precisely shows how a technique is accomplished and in what in-stance you would want to use that method. At the end of each chapter there is a ‘problem solver’ section to help you get past any problems that might come up. Our Guild Library is usually located at the back of our monthly meeting room. Members may check out books free on a monthly basis. Stop by and say “HI” to our Librarian, Jennifer Armantrout. This book is definitely a winner, so stop by and…… “Check It Out!”
