Congratulations on your purchase of aBarnstead|Thermolyne NANOpure InfinityUF. The unit is a water purification systemdesigned to provide pyrogen-free, high resistivity, reagent grade water that exceeds ASTM Type I,CAP and NCCLS Type I standards. It uses a four-stage deionization process combined with a10,000 molecular weight cutoff ultrafilter and a 0.2micron filter to polish suitable feed water (potabletap, distilled, deionized, or reverse osmosis) toproduce pyrogen-free (<0.001 Eu/ml), water witha resistivity of up to 18.3 megohm-cm. Waterresistivity is continuously monitored by aresistivity cell and displayed on a digital display. The NANOpure Infinity UF is designed toautomatically clean the ultrafilter by flushing waterthrough the filter for one minute every 24 hours. The water is sent to drain.

The NANOpure Infinity UF(ultrafilter) can beeasily upgraded to incorporate a UV (ultraviolet)system for organic determinant analysis. Theelectronics can be verified and calibrated utilizingN.I.S.T. Traceable Calibration Module. See acces-sory ordering information (page 45).

Please read the instructions carefully toensure that you receive maximum benefit fromthe NANOpure Infinity UF. Also, be sure to fill outand return the enclosed warranty registrationcard. We would like to receive the informationrequested, and it will help us assure you of properwarranty coverage.

Main Power SwitchThe main power switch on the NANOpure InfinityUF is located on the lower left side of the unit (asyou face the front of the unit), directly above thepower cord receptacle.

Control PanelThe NANOpure Infinity UF is controlled through apanel which incorporates six switches to controlits functions: START/STOP, STANDBY, MODE,DOWN, UP and ENTER. This control panelutilizes a digital display to show systeminformation and the purity of the product water. Itwill also show purity of feed water when anoptional inlet cell is utilized.

Two hidden LEDs illuminate to inform you itis time to sanitize the unit (SAN) or replace theUV lamp (UV) in UV models or if you add the UVmodule to this unit. The SAN light illuminates afterapproximately six months of use. The UV lightilluminates after approximately three months ofuse in models which utilize a UV lamp.

The control panel can be adjusted to theangle you need for viewing the digital display.

To adjust the angle of the control panel:

1. Open the front door. Inside the door aretwo rectangular openings which showtwo screws held in place by two wingnuts, one in each opening.

System Sanitization andCartridge ReplacementThe frequency with which you will need to cleanyour unit and replace your cartridges isdependent on your feed water’s characteristics, your purity requirements and your usage. Sanitizeyour NANOpure Infinity UF and replace thecartridges when the product water purity dropsbelow acceptable levels of resistivity, whenorganic levels become too high, or if a new 0.2micron filter clogs rapidly after installation eventhough the cartridges were thoroughly rinsedbefore the 0.2 micron filter was installed. Tosanitize the NANOpure Infinity UF, the purificationcartridges must be replaced with a sanitizationcartridge and the three empty cartridges suppliedwith your unit. The simple-to-use sanitizationcartridge is available from BarnsteadlThermolyne(Catalog Number D50258). This is used inaddition to the empty cartridges included with thisunit to effect a complete sanitization.

1. Disconnect the electrical service to theunit.

2. Remove the feed water line bydepressing stainless steel thumb pad.

3. Depressurize system by opening theremote dispenser.

4. Open the front door.

5. Be aware that the exhausted cartridgewill contain a cartridge bed of excesswater, you will want to have a containeravailable to place it in after removal.

6. Disengage the cartridge hold-downbracket.

7. Remove the exhausted cartridge in theright-hand (#4) position by pulling it firstup and then out.

Note The Sanitization Timer willilluminate after six months, reminding you to sanitize theunit. Complete the systemsanitization procedure andreset the sanitization lamp/indicator by going throughthe Reset Sanitization Timerprocedure on page 29.

WarningDisconnect from the powersupply prior to maintenanceand servicing.

NoteThe cartridges will stillcontain a cartridge bed ofwater when removed. Therefore, you will want tohave a sink, bucket or otherwaterproof containeravailable to place them inafter removal.

3. Rinse 1-2 liters of water through thefilter to drain prior to using the productwater.

Ultrafilter ReplacementThe length of your ultrafilter’s life will depend tosome extent on conditions and use in your lab. When you are unable to completely sanitizeyour system (i.e. you can no longer getpyrogen-free water even after sanitizing thesystem), replace the ultrafilter as follows:

1. Turn off the NANOpure Infinity UF anddisconnect it from the power supply.

2. Depressurize the system by openingthe remote dispenser, allowing waterto drain until no more water flowsfrom the dispenser.

3. Open the front door.

4. Remove the cartridge in the right-hand(#4) position by pulling it first up andthen out.

5. Remove the product and reject waterconnections from the old ultrafilter, ensuring that the nut, stainless steelgrab ring, backup ring and o-ring fromeach connection remain on each pieceof tubing. Disconnect the small piece offeed tubing from its connection to thefourth (far right) cartridge socket.

CautionDo not overtighten the 0.2micron filter assembly ontothe Luer fitting or useexcessive force in seating it.The filter and/or Luer fittingcan be damaged byovertightening or excessiveforce.

NoteIf a newly installed 0.2micron filter clogs rapidlyafter installation, theNANOpure Infinity UF mayneed to be sanitized toremove bacterialcontaminants. See SystemSanitization.

MAINTENANCE AND SERVICING

NoteSome water will drain fromthe ultrafilter when youdisconnect it. Have acontainer ready to hold theultrafilter and catch the waterwhile it drains. Water willalso drain from the tubing ofthe NANOpure Infinity UFonto your bench or floor. Toavoid slipping and falling, clean up all spills.
