Who are we designing for and what should we design? I’m always trying to find answers. The design exploration process excites me, and leads me to become a designer.

737 New Generation Boeing Seat
New Generation Boeing Seating Design
Based on the result of the research project of Boeing flight experience, We are working on the premise of designing for the users with limited dexterity, sight and hearing impairment whose needs are extreme. These needs are looked at through the lens of universal design to reach out to a larger population base.During the design process, we used prototype as a way to simulate consumer experiences, get inspirations, generate concepts, and get feedback from users.I finalized our rough mock-up in this summer to make it into a 3D model that can be produced.

In order to understand the whole user experience, •we built up a full scale of half plane section. This helped us to experience the restraints of the space and the sequence of activities.
Prototype to Learn

737 New Generation Boeing Seat
Using 3 rows of seats from Boeing, within our full scale •cabin, we were able to simulate the whole entrance and exit process, the relaxation period and transition activities.
User Experience Simulation“ I feel the storage area dirty, I don’t want to put my stuff in there.”“ The seat number is really hard to find, but I don’t want to rely on fly attendant.”“ The space between seats are too narrow. It’s embarrassing for me to get stuck in there.”

Inform-- enhance entry experience by better informing users about seating area.
Storage-- provide better storage system to enhance user experience during travel.
Experience-- accommodating work/ rest/ entertainment and eating in the seating area.
Transition-- provide support for transition from sitting to standing positions.

737 New Generation Boeing Seat
We looked into furniture concepts, interior design for elderly •people, working environments and other new and exiting de-sign solutions to learn, to be inspired and to enjoy.

Based on the universal design principle to provide equally solution for majority •user, we brainstormed in those four opportunity areas. Later on, we reviewed our concepts with design director in Teague to filter down several fruitful con-cepts and to understand the industry constraints.

We did rounds of user reviews. The storage place, the lighting, and the •way that small table folds, which solved most problems we found during the user experience simulation, received the positive feedback.

Mobile for Lamborghini
Mobile Design for Lamborghini
I came up with this idea when I saw the new BMW cell phone design. I have been enjoying the joyful experience really long since I knew and fell in love with the design of Lamborghini ten years ago. The design language of the transportation is really fruitful and inspirational.
Business Value The design is more focused on form, material and how to embed the design language of sports car into cell phone rather than just copy them. The target segmentation of this series will be high-end and for the people who really care about their image which are posted through their luxury items, like watches or cell phones.

Learn from sketching
Sketching is a good way for designers to learn from the existing product. The body lines and details provides great inspiration for the mobile design.

Mobile for Lamborghini
Concept:
The side and back decoration represents user’s identity and attracts attentions. “Golden Wings” graphic arouses feeling of speed and luxury.
Insight:
People like to decorate their cell phone to project their personal image. Back and side part of cell phone is usually a field to attracting others while making a phone call.
Strategy:
Thinking about branding on the level of Vertus phone and combine the design language of Lamborghini, this one will be a luxury phone and fashion icon with the expressive design.

Mobile for Lamborghini
Concept:
The transformer cell phone does not mean to enable the movements between elements, but shows the feeling through keyboard layout.
Insight:
People want their cell phone to be different. There are merely efforts done in the keyboard layout within the middle to low end cell phones.
Strategy:
Targeting at middle to low end cell phone market, this concept still preserve the lamborghini feeling through the different keyboard layout to make the user standing out among the ordinary phones.

Mobile for Lamborghini
Concept:
Bringing the liquid shape with a powerful feeling through curved surfaces. The top surface is intend to be a touch screen. It will be interesting to see how people react with curved touch screen.
Insight:
People does not want a cell phone which looks like a small version of the car. They think it’s crappy and cheap. Cell phone design needs to extract the design language and to make it look “cool” and “not predictable”.
Strategy:
A long-term concept targets at car geeks who try to bring car feeling into their personal life and show to others.

Existing Models in the Market
Market Analysis
Consumer Needs Found through Research
Existing product portfolio shows problems and
also opportunities in these area:
1 A matured market with competition based on
price and adding functions.
2 Product form has the same style with little
change in detail.
1. Ergonomic test shows people are knocking their
head when using the ventilators.
2 Existing large volume product can not fit into
modern kitchen decoration style
