Richard Stockley Napoleon Dynamite Opening Sequence Mise en Scene C: There are no people actually shown in this opening sequence apart from the face of the protagonist L: High key, the high key light gives a natural look A: Stereotypical teenage nerd, Frizzy hair, glasses and buck teeth M: None P: Food and other random objects e.g. Chapstick, Wallet, SCI-FI books, UFO licence, tin foil shruiken etc. Just typical objects a “unpopular” teenager in high school Editing Pace: Slow paced, shots change nearly every 5 seconds Effects: none Cutting: none Transitions: none Camera Angles: High up, looking down. The objects are positioned into the middle of the camera which shows as if they are looking at the objects with their own eyes. Movement: none Shots: POV which makes the audience feel as if they are in the scene as they are looking straight onto the objects Sound Dialogue: None Voice: None Diagetic: Plates being put down and the sound of birds singing and pencils/paper being moved Non Diagetic: Music playing in the background
