NARRATIVE REPORT The grade-10 animal production learners visited the Research Institute for Philippine

Native Chicken located at Benigno Aquino Bridge Brgy. Buntalan, Leon, Iloilo last July 30,

2015.

They hired three tricycles to bring them to the place. Before they started looking around

the place, they were introduced first to the caretaker and their tour guide, Mr.Froilan Cabarles

who started talking all about the place. The students of course remember the last word of their

teacher before he goes to the public market,” Don’t Touch Anything!” So they enter first in the

main building to introduce the machines that they had.

They were introduced to the three machines in front of them. First on the line is the

Hammer Mill that stands as the grinding system. Second is the Feed Mill or the Feed Mixer

that mixes the feed like the chick grower; the procedure lasts from five to ten minutes. Lastly, the

pelleting machine that converts the feeds into pellets. Then after the presentation of the machines

they proceed to the poultry houses that are proudly presented by their tour guide. On the entrance

they can clearly see the brooder area where their tour guide let them in. They can visibly see the

chicks and how they move freely around the place. Each house has its own waterer and the

ground was surrounded by rice hull. There is a forester station and the Determination of Chick

Quantitative Phenotypic Traits Associated with Growth Performance. The second batches of

houses are the grower area where there are twenty houses and serves as the shelter of egg-laying

chickens. And the third and last batches are the breeding area composed of phase1, phase2 and

phase3.The research area in there was named Determination of the Effectiveness of VCO as

Topical Treatment for Caponizing. They also asked some questions like are there snakes and

where did the water came from. Mr. Cabarles answered them that there are no snakes and the

water came from the well that they dig underground. Last previous years, the water supply came

from the Sibalom River but then they decided to put dig a well on the low portion of the farm.

They asked him if how come the water come all the way up to the high portion of the farm. He

said that they used water motor to bring the water up and put them in big tanks. The students also

asked about the rooster that has a big tumor on its right foot and he answered that it’s because the

rooster is too old so the illness grow when it is too old. For some trivia, he told them that the

ratio of the young rooster to the old is one is to ten while if the rooster is too old they decreases

the number of chicken and it becomes one is to seven. They do this because the old rooster’s

ability to mate decreases as it grow old. They can see the actual mating of the rooster to the

chicken on the last part of their journey to the farm. Of course there is also an egg in some of the

nest they saw. After the tour they return to their school campus contented of what they saw on

the CPU farm.
