President's message…The beautiful weather outside
is telling us that it is time to start thinking about our picnic! We
have secured Albion Woods as our location on August 3rd; Tickets
will be sold at the June club meeting so be sure to attend! We
encourage everyone who wants to come to buy a ticket in advance- it
really helps us tell our caterer what to bring so everyone can get enough
food. We are also looking for picnic committee volunteers – the picnic
can’t happen without you, so please step forward & help us out! I can
take volunteer nominations through email ([email protected]) or at the June meeting.
Our trips committee has been very active lately, and they have proposed to the board 3
week-long trips next year! I can’t promise anything, but I can let you know that we are looking
at Vail, Aspen/Snowmass, and Snowbasin/Powder Mountain trips next year. Come to the June
meeting for your first chance to sign up for one (or two or three...) of these! In addition, week-
end proposals to Boyne Mountain and Laurel Hills lodge have been presented, and day trips to
Holimont, Holiday Valley, and Seven Springs have been planned out. It looks like we have a LOT
of skiing ahead of us in 2011!
Speaking of skiing, it’s time to find a new ski queen! Bring your nominations to the June
meeting so we can crown her at the picnic!
Finally, our list of summer activities is included later in this newsletter – check it out!

Trustees Annual Report of Activities
Per the request of a club member, the Trustees conducted a due process re-
view regarding the motion and vote on subscription fees which was conducted
at the April, 2010 general meeting of the Club. We find that the Board, under
new business, took up the discussion of this fee during their March meeting,
in the context of membership dues. Further, we find that the fee constitutes
a payment from a member to receive a service from the Club to which all
members are entitled by the payment of normal dues. As such, the proposed
fee fundamentally constitutes a change in the dues structure of the Club, and
was subject to the publication requirement prior to the discussion, motion,
and vote taken at the April general meeting. A point of order was also found
in the review of the minutes of the March Board meeting. It was recorded
that the Vice President - Alpine made the motion to recommend the fee
change. The presiding officer of the meeting is not allowed to make or sec-
ond a motion for a vote (Roberts Rules of Order, which provide the gover-
nance model for our Club, Article IV, Section 12). The presiding officer may
only call for a motion to be made. We find that due process under the Consti-
tution was not served in this case, and that the result of the vote taken at
the April general meeting is void.
Submitted by Mark Hyatt, Mikel Kaltenstein, and Annie Easley
The Trustees conducted an audit of the Club’s finances on April 27, 2010.
The audit was conducted with the support of the current Treasurer and the
Treasurer elect. Pending distribution of the financial records for reference,
no discrepancies or issues were found with the Club’s financial records and
reporting for the period subject to review. A subsequent meeting with two
Trustees and the Treasurer present was held on May 18, 2010. A detailed
review of the accounting records provided by the past Treasurer revealed no
other actionable items for the purposes of the audit. This concludes the an-
nual audit report to the Club.

Recap of Friday Night of the Movies
Eight of us… Renae, Rosemary, Karen, Ron, Kathleen, Paul, Scott and I met at the Luxe before the
movie. It was the perfect place to meet and eat. The food was good; the menu was varied, and the service
was excellent - the server knew a lot about the menu, the neighborhood and he was funny to boot. They easi-
ly fit in both small and large groups.
The movie theatre was spacious and if you don’t want to ever get shut out of a first run movie, then
go there…with 500 seats that’s not likely to happen. The sound system was excellent – I never even heard
the raging storm overhead with all the large hail and high winds that decimated the surrounding neighbor-
hoods. The movie was good too! (Iron Man 2).
I stopped at the Stone Mad Brewery afterwards and got a guided tour of the place. The craftsman-
ship is just amazing. If you get a chance, stop by…the stone, wood, glass and tile work is beautiful. They also
have an indoor bocce court and the outdoor patio is a perfect place to spend a summer night. Article by

Recap of Stanford Trail Hike
"I’ve heard Dick Goddard say, “Never cancel your plans based on the fore-
cast.” True state-
ment! The morning
was perfect for Ber-
nadette Kan, Dawn
Pottinger, Therese
Telzrow and Jim Slivka. The weather was actually
hot and sunny. Some creatures that were highlight-
ed along the 5 miles…, a barred owl, turtles, frogs and
ducks. Because we chose to hike through the fresh
trail renovations, we grew Frankenstein feet after an
especially muddy section. We admired the new bridge
across the river, and we appreciated the dedication of
those who have built it. I was told it was all done by
volunteers. It’s spectacular! Of course, we stopped to
experience the Brandywine waterfall. The frozen
treats from the Trail Mix store was a great way to so-
cialize and end the hike. I hope you get the chance to check it out!" Article and Photos by Bernadette J. Kan
