Preamble: GAABESU
The Global Alumni Association of Bengal Engineering and Science University (GAABESU) was formed to reach out, serve and engage all
ndits alumni, faculty and students and help the 2 oldest engineering college (erstwhile Bengal Engineering College) to regain its pre-eminent position in engineering education in India. GAABESU's efforts in this respect have paid off and the University has been
stconverted to be the 1 Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology, Shibpur (IIEST, Shibpur) in March, 2014 with the mission to excel in graduate study and research. IIEST is recognized as one of the Institutes of National Importance (INI).
GAABESU serves as the primary channel of communication between the Institute and its global alumni community. It solicits contributions and funds from the alumni community, the various levels of government, foundations and foreign agencies in order to upgrade infrastructure and develop and expand new curriculum and research
ndinitiatives. The new swimming pool, renovated gymnasium, new 2 gate, Slater Hall renovation to make it a Centre for Creative Expressions are some of the projects completed with alumni contributions.
GAABESU's other activities include awarding 100+ Scholarships and Book Grants each year and for Excellence in Research, Fellowship for Excellence, Teaching Excellence, Excellence in Sports as well as to help needy applicants to join IIEST (through Admission Grants). In addition, GAABESU has also provided fund to the students, staffs, faculty members, alums and their family members during medical emergency.
