CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILTY

Page 4: National Bank of Pakistan Final Report

According to Mr. Muhammad ashfaq khan, corporate responsibility is giving

back to the society. (CSR) denotes the highest standards of corporate behavior

towards employees, consumers, the societies and world in which we live It is a

process of thanking the social framework for supporting your organization, and

realizing that the customers are the people who make your organization run and

because of them your dreams and business vision are realized. It is an act through

which a corporate entity enhances its image among its customers and the potential

market, thus increasing its product and services equity. He said banking sector

playing an important role by financing at the micro level but banks and other

organization should give back to the society they are working in. It is imperative

for a corporate entity to indulge in CSR activities to endorse their ‘localization’ to

the country (Society of origin) and ‘globalization’ to the world which is equally

important. For this process doesn’t only endorse organization’s brand equity,

moral & ethical values but it also makes the customers interact with the

organization. Indirectly, this gives them a feeling of being a part of the

organization.

.

NBP fully recognizes its responsibility towards society in general and towards

promotion of sports in the Country in particular. The organization has always

contributed towards worthy causes and has donated generously in case of natural

ailing Turab Ali (Former Skipper –Football) for his treatment.

Financial assistants for small business:

As NBP comes under the supervision of the central government and hold a classic view

of CSR. NBP has introduced the self employment scheme under the name of President’s

Rozgar Scheme, where the bank provides credit to the people who are interested in self

employment. Although there is a markup of 6% but it is very low than that of other banks

where the markup is as high as 12-15%. People can get finance for self-employment in

the categories below

a) NBP Karobar Utility Store

b) NBP Karobar Mobile Utility Store

c) NBP Karobar Mobile General Store

d) NBP Karobar Transport

e) NBP Karobar PCO

f) NBP Karobar Tele-Centre

.

Some CSR critics argue that the only reason corporations put in place social projects is

for the commercial benefit they see in raising their reputation with the public or with

government. But this is only the one way of seeing the perspective. But according to Mr.

Muhammad ashfaq khan CSR activity is a symbol of humanity and it is a duty that

should be performed by every organization to prosper and develop. If we visualize it in

the way that due to CSR activities made by various corporations are in one way or the

other benefiting the needy ones then the whole scenario changes

CONCLUSION

National Bank of Pakistan maintains its position as Pakistan's premier bank determined

to set higher standards of achievements. It is the major business partner for the

Government of Pakistan with special emphasis not only on fostering Pakistan's economic
