A faith-based, national nonprofit, the NBA works with individuals – nonprofit administrators, volunteer leaders, lay and clergy – and nonprofit organizations to strengthen and transform communities. We support individuals through professional and leadership development that includes models of peer to peer learning cohorts, coaching and mentorship, and intentional living and learning communities. We foster opportunities for continuing education for our partners and the general public through online learning webinars, intensive educational retreats, and small group cohorts. In our work with direct care and advocacy nonprofits, we offer consultation services in areas such as strategic planning, human resources, board development, and financial accounting. As an established and recognized ministry organization within a mainline, Protestant denomination, the NBA serves in collaborative partnership with congregations, middle judicatories (regions), and other general ministries of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), and Disciples-related health and direct care providers. The ideal candidate will bring a creative yet practical approach to marketing, with an underlying strength in strategic analysis and communication. He/she will be someone with a disciplined and analytical background who can act quickly in execution. This individual must be an organized and seasoned professional who is an exceptionally gifted communicator, willing to roll up their sleeves, and be comfortable in a faith-based, nonprofit environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

This professional will be expected to oversee NBA’s comprehensive strategic marketing vision, while consistently producing short-term successes along the way. Success and accountability will be based on agreed upon metrics. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Strategic Planning & Implementation

In partnership with the NBA Vice President of Development and Marketing, determine strategy and key goals; develop a comprehensive and integrated plan/direction for marketing of the NBA mission and ministries. Utilize market and internal data to set strategies and goals.

Develop and implement applications of the marketing and communication plans for all mission initiatives. Work across the NBA and with mission partners including individuals and organizations with whom we partner and use all appropriate media to create innovative strategies and campaigns that inspire engagement opportunities and assist in fundraising efforts.

Management and Administration

Communicate and work with the NBA executive leadership team, our primary mission partners (including nonprofit organizations and special projects with whom we partner), active and prospective NBA donors, and a diversity of Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) related organizations and ministries. Provide leadership to and coordinate between NBA staff to ensure that marketing and communication efforts are coordinated, consistent, and appropriate.

Research, analyze and prepare reports and performance metrics. Establish and enforce policies to ensure a clear, consistent, and powerful message. Serve as liaison to NBA consultants and help select future vendors for marketing projects. Must be able and willing to teach in public settings – in person and virtually – and offer workshops for learning related to marketing practices and activities for nonprofits. Oversee the marketing, communications, and advertising budgets.

Areas of responsibility will include but are not limited to NBA’s: social media accounts, content/email marketing, website/digital, photo/video, support direct mail/fundraising appeals, support grants and program communications. And other duties as assigned.

Creative Development & Direction

Refine and enhance brand identities. Develop and implement campaigns to promote brand recognition and to increase engagement with NBA mission and ministries. Write and develop NBA communication pieces to ensure that the NBA’s voice is consistent and used appropriately and effectively with our primary audiences. Identify opportunities and partnerships that will enhance the NBA’s brand and programs.

Qualifications A successful candidate will possess:

1. Bachelor’s degree preferred, and/or equivalent relevant professional experience required; Minimum three years of communications and/or marketing experience with an organizational brand; writing sample, portfolio, and/or project assignments may be requested throughout the application process;

2. Self-directed and goal-oriented, as informed by organizational needs and mission; able to prioritize and multi-task meeting deadlines and a demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities. Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail with the ability to work independently without close oversight, take initiative, and contribute ideas for enhancing performance;

3. An optimistic outlook and the humor, integrity and patience necessary to work within a transformative environment;

4. Knowledge of and commitment to the mission, values and goals of NBA and knowledge and understanding of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination, and the covenantal relationship with NBA;

5. The ability and willingness to travel and this position requires approximately 30% travel time.

Working Environment

1. Work in a variety of settings and at a variety of meetings, working alone at times and with diverse groups at other times.

2. Can be deployed and not required to be based in St. Louis. 3. Travel required approximately 30% of work time. 4. Extensive use of technology required and proficiency in this necessary.

Physical Demands The physical demands that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job include, but are not limited: 1) the ability to communicate in person, on the telephone, and in front of large groups of people; 2) the ability to meet a travel schedule that includes managing luggage of up to 50 lbs.; 3)occasional need to lift marketing and work materials, 40 lbs. or less.
