NCCPE’s Assessment

1. Vulnerability of the population to infection with wild virus infection Polio related immunity gap and routine immunization

2. Whether system is sensitive enough to identify any WPV circulation?

3. Whether system is capable of identifying any importation of WVP in to the country?

4. Ability of the system for rapid and effective response to detection of any WPV identified?

NCCPE Roadmap

• Request Secretary, MOHFW, GOI to write to all state health departments for support and facilitation – Exploring the possibilities of convening a meeting of State

Laboratory Containment Activities

• National Task Force – Constituted by MOHFW, GOI on 11 September, 2003– Director General, ICMR as Chairperson – Secretariat: Indian Council of Medical Research– Report to be prepared by Secretariat & submitted to NCCPE

• Activities– To avoid chances of re-introduction of WPV when indigenous

circulation of virus interrupted– Document location and type of WPV infectious material

retained: preparation of nation wide inventory of laboratories storing infectious /potentially infectious materially
