Anand Pharmacy College, Anand had organized the two days National Conference on “End
Tuberculosis (TB) Strategy: 2030” in the milk city Anand, Gujarat, India, during August 10-11
2018, with the objective to disseminate the latest breakthrough in the field of TB and to provide
the common platform for convergence of knowledge. The conference was financially supported
by The Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), The Indian Council of Medical Research
(ICMR), New Delhi and Science for Equity Empowerment and Development (SEED) – Department
of Science and Technology (DST). The conference included sessions on based on the Clinical,
Community, Formulation and Laboratory diagnosis aspect of TB. Delegates and resource persons
from across India were part of it. The conference enjoyed the overwhelming response of over 150
delegates from across India who adorned the conference with their presence.
First Day: 10th August, 2018
The first day of the conference i.e. 10th August, 2018 started with the inaugural ceremony in the
morning. Dr. U. D. Gupta, Chief Guest, Director and Scientist G, National Jalma Institute For Leprosy
And Other Mycobacterial Diseases, Agra, Uttar Pradesh along with Prof. Manjiri Gharat, Guest of
Honor Vice-Principal, K.M. Kundnani Pharmacy Polytechnic, Ulhasnagar, Mumbai, Maharashtra;
Professor Tejal Gandhi, Convener, Principal, Anand Pharmacy College; Professor Mukesh Gohel,
PG Director, Anand Pharmacy College; Smt. Jyostna Patel, Honorary Secretary of Shri Ram Krishna
Seva Mandal; Shri. Hemant Patel, President of Shri Ramkrishna Seva Mandal, initiated the
conference by spiritually lighting the auspicious lamp.
Professor Tejal Gandhi, Conference Convener addressed the gathering by her welcome speech
familiarizing audience with the theme of the conference and emphasizing that not words but
actions to curb TB is the demand of time. Smt. Jyotsnaben Patel, Honorary Secretary of Shri
Ramkrishna Seva Mandal (SRKSM), introduced everyone with the management trust that played
an imperative role in facilitating Anand Pharmacy College to organize such an event. Glimpses of
Conference was given by Dr. Mukesh Gohel, where he emphasized that one of the underlying
reason behind this growing disease is undiagnosed cases there by enlightening the audience. The
opportune moment to showcase the efforts directed in the organization of the conference was
taken to the release of Souvenir by all the dignitaries. During the inaugural session, Dr. Suhas Patel,
Executive member of CPD, Vice President of North Gujarat Chemist association as well as Disha
Chemist association and IPA Anand Local branch took the opportunity to acknowledge Prof.

Manjiri Gahart’s services in the field of TB and community pharmacy and presented her with a
memento. This was followed by the Key note address where Dr. U.D. Gupta shared his words of
wisdom with the audience while the Guest of Honor, Prof Manjari Gharat focused on role of
community pharmacist in scourging the menace i.e. TB. The inaugural function ended with the
presidential remark of Shri. Hemant Patel.

Scientific session commenced with the first plenary session by Prof. Manjiri Gharat on Engaging
Community Pharmacists in TB Care and Control, which entailed a detailed discussion on the
neglected role of community pharmacists in TB and how they can act as a strong pillar to reduce
the redundancy in the TB treatment failure. Second plenary session begin with the talk on End
Tuberculosis (TB) Strategy: 2030 - The RNTCP Retrospectives by Dr. U.D. Gupta where he
emphasized the seven aspects namely Active Case Finding; Expansion of Treatment Services;
Patient Support Systems; Community Engagement; ICT Tools for adherence, Monitoring and
Preventive Measures to battle against TB.
Plenary Session delivered by Dr. U.D. Gupta and Prof. Manjiri Gharat and their felicitation. After the networking luncheon, the third plenary session started with a talk on Delivery of Anti-
tubercular drugs through Pulmonary route: Special Emphasis on DPI by Prof. A. N. Misra,
Faculty of Pharmacy, Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Baroda, Gujarat. The talk was
focused on the current innovations of inhalable DPIs for the treatment of TB, including the

formulation strategies, pre-clinical/clinical evaluations of inhaled dry powder and the future
considerations of the DPIs in the tuberculosis treatment. This was followed by the last plenary
session of the day by Dr. Dhanji P. Rajani, Microbiologist, Microcare Laboratory & Tuberculosis
Research Centre Surat, Gujarat on the topic of Laboratory diagnosis of Tuberculosis. The talk
addressed the rapid technological advances in the detection of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and
its drug susceptibility in clinical samples. The session was followed by high tea.
Plenary Session delivered by Dr. A.N. Misra and Dr. Dhanji Rajani and their felicitation.
Thus, the session of the first day ended with a fruitful knowledge dissemination on the varied
aspect of TB.
Second Day: August 11, 2018
The second day of the intellectual gathering began with the fifth plenary session with a talk
delivered by Dr. Rajiv Paliwal, Professor and Head, Department of Pulmonary Medicine, Pramukh
Swami Medical College, Karamsad, Anand, Gujarat on Multi-Drug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-
TB): A New Menace in India where Multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) as a significant
global health concern was discussed with the discussion to identify MDR-TB and precaution to be

taken per se to prevent its further spread. The last plenary session of the two day intellectual
venture ended with a talk on Tuberculosis: Past, Present and Future by Dr. Ravish Kshatriya,
Associate Professor, Department of Respiratory Medicine, Pramukh Swami Medical College,
Karamsad, Anand, Gujarat. The talk was focused on drug susceptible tuberculosis to drug
resistance tuberculosis emphasizing the rise in drug resistance tuberculosis with a concern that it
would take us to the era of modern sanatorium where no drug would be sensitive.

Oral and Poster Symposium
Following lunch break, at 1:30 oral and poster symposium, running parallel was arranged. Oral
presentation was arranged in Bhaikaka Hall, while the Poster presentation was arranged in Anand
Pharmacy College, Anand, Main building. There were total 11 oral presentations and 48 poster
presentations.
The oral session was judged by Dr. Kirti Patel, Department of Pharmacy, Associate Professor, M.
S. University of Baroda, Vadodara, Gujarat and Dr. Anita A. Mehta, Professor & Head, Department

of Pharmacology, L. M. College of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad. Poster presentations were divided in
three categories i.e. TB based presentation, Pharmaceutics and QA presentation and
Pharmacology presentations. The presentation were respectively judged by Prof. Jigna Shah,
Department of Pharmacology, Nirma University, Institute of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad; Dr. Jolly R.
Parikh, Professor, Department of Pharmaceutics, A.R. College of Pharmacy & G.H. Patel Institute
of Pharmacy, Vallabh Vidhyanagar, Anand, Gujarat and Dr. Samir K. Shah, Professor & Principal ,
Department of Pharmacology, Sardar Patel College of Pharmacy, Vidhyanagar-Vadtal Road, Bakrol,
Anand, Gujarat.
Glimpses of Oral/Poster presentation session and Prize distribution ceremony
Valedictory ceremony: August 11, 2018
The conference ended with a valedictory ceremony on the evening of 11th August, 2018. Professor
Tejal Gandhi presented conference report comprising of the details about technical sessions, the
number of posters and oral presentations, resource persons, to the august audience. Chief Guest
Dr. Anita Mehta, Professor, L. M. College of Pharmacy talked about the conference and its

successful organization and wished team APC congratulations. Guest of Honor, Dr. Pawan Kumar
Singh, Innovation officer/Scientist (VARD), National Innovation Foundation-India (NIF),
Ahmedabad could not make it to the event but had convey best wishes for its organization. The
event was marked by the significant MoU signing between IPA- Community Pharmacy Division
and Anand Pharmacy College, Anand with an intention and pledge to uplift and restructure the
community pharmacy such that it acts as a significant liaison between patient and the treatment.

The valedictory function also witnessed the most awaited moment of prize distribution for best
oral and poster presentation. First prize for the best oral presentation was awarded to Ms. Roma
Trivedi and second prize was awarded to Ms. Kinjal Parikh. For the Poster presentation in the
category of TB based Poster, first prize was awarded to Mr. Anand Menon, in Pharmaceutics and
QA, first prize was awarded to Mr. Lalaji Rathod and Consolation prize was awarded to Ms. Krishna
Patel, in Pharmacology category, first prize was awarded to Mr. Hardik Savsani.

Intellectual event acted as the common platform for convergence of latest breakthroughs in the
field of TB world. Collaborative and constructive deliberations by researchers, academicians,
clinicians, industry persons, and young researchers made the conference a delightful event of
knowledge dissemination and gaining. High praises and appreciation were extended to the
organizing committee by the speakers and delegates for the arrangement, hospitality, and
excellent services rendered. The conference ended with a pledge to boost further the research in
the TB field and serve the purpose with full dedication towards making TB a History.
