INTH()l)UCTION

The New Hampshire State Police concluded ite 38 th year 011

,June 30, 1975. This year again saw increases in almost every area of our operation. Uke many other police departments, some increases are planned and encouraged, while other increases come about regardless of what we do to stop thCll1. We increased our traffic enforcement and rea lizccl a decrease in the total number of traffic accidents, but, unfortunately, saw an increase in the number of fatalities. Clas!:: t and Class II crimes continue to increase, and, hence, so cloes our investigative time and effort. The increases recorded in these succeeding pages are testimony to the all out effort by every member of the Division Team.

Important E\'('nts

Among the more notable ('vents that occurrNl tho past year was the upgrading of all NCO's and Officers in the Traffic Bureau by one additiot'l.nl pay grade. This made way for the establishment of a Trooper Firat Class positiolt which cOllsists of all Troopers with over ten years of service. An increase in pay accompanied this tlew rank.

'l'ho Annu.al Inspection in Octobcl' brought the Direct()r and other shlte ancllocal executives into the field to inspect the troops.

A cOlltimwd program to conserve :i':CSources brought about requiromcnts for all patrol vehicles to shut ... down fClr ten minutes each hour, redu(1c idling time, and double up for adminJstrntive nctivities.

The Fbderal l"air Labor Standards Act which took effect the first of the yellr, brl~ught about a new format of accounting for tho time of all members in the Division. This Act wtll greatly effect the oporations of the Division in the futurl~.

A Spc(lial Weapons and Tactics Unit (SWAT Team) ~ll1d n SCUBA Unit were (~stabliBhed in the Traffic BUreau to aid 0.11 1 aw enforcement in the~~ special tasks.

During the yenr, Division personnel gave a total of 174 Speaking engagements ::tttended by 16,893 people.

With the legislative passage of a new ban on road side camping', the annual carnnge at the Motorcycle Races in June was greatly reduc~d. This ban, coupled with a new field plan, made these l'(lceS thn quic~.st in many years.

Additi(Jnallegislntive approprlatiolls for A new Depnrtmellt of Snfety Building were received and construction should start shortly. New qUarters will be welcomed by all adminis-tl'a ti ve personnel.
