Annex A 1085-20-16 (RC CTO) 30 Sep 08 CADET HONOUR BAND OF PRAIRIE REGION 2009 VIDEO AUDITION INSTRUCTIONS

1. Under the supervision of an adult (the adult does not need to appear on the video), cadets shall demonstrate their musical ability while being video recorded. 2. If cadets are able to play more than one band instrument they may audition on as many instruments as they wish, but must perform all requirements on each instrument. 3. Audition procedures are as follows:

a. cadets will clearly state name, cadet unit, and instrument;

b. cadets will perform required music for their instrument contained in Annex D or Annex E, as appropriate; and

c. auditions must be performed on the instrument (i.e. auditions will

not be accepted if played on practice pads/chanters).

4. Auxiliary positions (if any), such as vocalists, masters of ceremony, highland dancers, and conductors will be selected from the instrumentalists selected. These auditions will be held after the cadets arrive at the training location. 5. The video must be submitted to the RC CTO no later than 1 December 2008. Cadet units may submit recordings of all of their cadets on a single tape/DVD. Please label the tapes/DVDs with Name(s), Instrument(s), and Cadet Unit for all cadets auditioning. If using a videotape, please ensure that the tape is NEW and that playback works on a separate playback device (i.e. if you record on a Super 8 camcorder, please ensure that the playback works on a different device such as a VCR). The ONLY video formats that will be accepted are as follows (formats not on this list will be returned and cadets submitting incorrect formats will not be considered): a. VHS;

b. S-VHS (do not send tape adapters); c. Video Super 8;

d. Video Hi8;

e. Digital 8mm; f. Mini DV;

g. *DVD (Please do not use DVD-RW Media. Note DVDs will not be

returned); and h. *CD-R (AVI video format in 4:3 aspect ratio). * Please submit all video in 4:3 aspect ratio – no widescreen formats

will be accepted. 6. A complete, FORTRESS generated CF 51 for the activity must be submitted with a video cassette as well as the completed application form attached at Annex B. 7. Videos, applications, and CF 51s are to be sent to one of the following addresses:

Cadet Honour Band of Prairie Region 2009 Audition Music – Tenor Drum*

Tenor Drummers are to perform, on the instrument, a 4-part 2/4 quick march from their repertoire,

illustrating their abilities in both flourish drumming and rhythm drumming. A copy of the drum part performed must accompany the audition tape/disc.

Cadet Honour Band of Prairie Region 2009 Audition Music – Bass Drum*

Bass Drummers are to perform, on the instrument, a 4-part 2/4 quick march from their repertoire which best

Illustrates their skill on the instrument. The quick march performed must include the Bass drum cut-off signal. A copy of the drum part performed must accompany the audition tape/disc.

*For both Tenor and Bass Drummers, parts should be performed with a Side Drummer and, if possible/desired, a bagpiper. If the interested musician comes from a cadet unit without an active Pipe Band, the drummer should make

comment on the audition tape that they do not have the ability to perform with other players.
