The maiden Annual National Entrepreneurship
Week (Anew) took place from November 17-22,
2014.
The program involved four different activities
IDEAS CONTEST: A platform where students’
teams from various universities select a chal-
lenge in their catchment area, analyze the
situation and proffer a feasible solution that
can become a viable enterprise.
MAKE YOUR MARK CONTEST: This aimed at
sharpening the creative problem solving capa-
bility of the students’ teams. All participants
were given a challenging problem determined
by the panel of Judges. The teams were given
48 hours to investigate and proffer solutions,
which would be presented in print and elec-
tronic format. Questions and answer sessions
were included in the two competitions.
INNOVATION EXPO FOR RESEARCH: This in-
volved exhibition of academic intellectual
properties that can be commercialized.
ENTREPRENUERSHIP COLLOQUIUM: Promi-
nent academic and eminent discussants
from industry and professionals were invited
to make presentations on “Building Sustain-able Industry-Institution Partnership”.
Babcock University team participated in all the
activities. The team which was made up of15
students and 15 faculty and staff was led by Pro-
fessor G.O Tayo, Director of Research and Inter-
national Cooperation, Babcock University.
IDEAS CONTEST
BU was represented by 5 members of the BU
Enactus group, Tobi, Sinmi, Dora, Bode and
Ngozi. They made presentations on project 360,
project shine and the gel fuel. These were pro-
jects the group had been carrying out within
Ilishan community and environs.
MAKE YOUR MARK CONTEST
Bola Raheem, Ezinwanne Onuoha, Ngozi
Ukueni, Nelson Uzenabor, Uzu Michael, Emman-
uel Nwite and Opara Ndubuisi participated.

All teams were given the topic “Youth Restiveness, causes and solu-
tions. The solution was to involve an enterprise and a bottom to top
approach. The 7 member make your mark team worked tirelessly
with other members of the BU team, working late into the night in
team spirit. The team emerged 2nd out of 45 teams in spite of the
fact that they could not use their power point presentation because
of power outage.
Innovation Expo
Research products and output such as sweet potato bread by Dr.
Onigbinde, Adebayo (Basic Sciences department), mushroom and
pulp by Mr Omenka, Richard (Biochemistry Department), potential
cure for arthritis by Dr. Anyasor, God’swill (Biochemistry depart-
ment), software on poultry management, pension fund by Mr Omo-
tunde Ayokunle (Computer Science department) and the path find-
er by Ayua Moses (Computer Technology, 400l).
Entreprenuership Colloquium
Prominent academic and professionals from industry made presen-
tations and also shared experiences on enduring network between
town and gown.
Mr Joshua Suleiman, Godwin Nwankwere, Godwin Ugbaka and Mr
Raphael the team from the Development and Strategy Division,
Babcock University, were also present to project Babcock
University. The BU booth was well branded by them.
Dr. Ayodele, Kolawole, Senior Research Officer, Research and
International Cooperation, served as a coach and also saw to
the welfare of all BU participants.
Mr Kwabai, Jerry, Mr Omotunde, Ayokunle, Dr. Anyasor
God’swill, Dr. Onigbinde, Adebayo, and Mr. Omenka all
cooperated with Professor G. O. Tayo in coaching the
students.
According to Professor Grace O. Tayo, she witnessed a high
level of team spirit among the Babcock contingent. It was this
cooperation that resulted in the success recorded. She is
grateful to all participants, coaches, mentors including Mr
Ajike, the Enactus adviser and Olumide Ibikunle, Enactus
team leader, and finally the Babcock University Administra-
tion for investing heavily in the program.
BU team came second in the make your mark contest and
was awarded a certificate of participation, a plaque and a
cash award of two hundred and fifty thousand naira.

1st International Conference on Advanced Computerised Systems and
Emerging Technologies (ICACSET) 2014
The 1st International Conference on Advanced Computerised Systems and
Emerging Technologies (ICACSET) took place from November 30-
December 3, 2014, at Babcock University Guest House.
The purpose of the conference was to provide a platform for reinforcing
and building strategic relationship between the industry and academia
that would impact national sustainable development through computer-
ised systems and emerging technologies.
One hundred and sixty-three participants registered for the conference.
Special Guests: Professor I. Okoro (Vice President, Babcock University)
stood in for Professor J. A. Kayode Makinde who was unavoidably absent.
While Prof. David Adewumi (Dean, School of Science & Information, Na-
tional Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) and President, Nigeria Computer
Society (NCS), and Alhaja Sekinat Yusuf, President/Chairman of Council,
Computer Professionals, Registration Council of Nigeria were in attend-
ance. While His Excellency, Ambassador Uriel Palti (Israel Ambassador was
indisposed).
Invited Keynote Speakers: Professor Kofi A. A. Makinwa (Professor, Delft
University of Technology, Netherlands), and Professor (Mrs.) Adenike Oso-
fisan (Director, Business School, University of Ibadan) were present, while
Professor Ndubuisi Ekekwe (Professor, Carnegie Mellon University, USA
also founder, FASMICRO Group, USA ) was absent.
Conference Key Speakers: Dr. Mitchell B. Nesenoff, (CEO and President of
CES industries, Inc. USA), Dr. Nicolae Goga (Associate Professor in Universi-
ty Politehnica of Bucharest and Romania), Dr. Akin Fapohunda and Mr.
Timothy Olukayode Akano (CEO of New Horizons Nigeria) .
Morning Devotions: Day 2: Pastor (Dr.) Tunde Ojewole (Babcock University
Pastor) handled the morning devotion titled “ATM” and the bible readings
were taken from Psalm 117 and 119.
Day 3: Pastor (Dr.) Israel Olaore handled the devotion titled
“Integration of faith in learning” we were encouraged to tap from
the shareware resources of God that is free of charge and is not
controlled by Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN). God is
the owner of these emerging technologies.

Dr. Anyasor, G.N. came first position and was given an award with the paper
presentation titled“Hexane fraction of Costus afer leaves inhibited mitochondrial membrane permeability transition, F1F0 ATPase and scavenged nitric oxide and hydrogen peroxide”.
During the nutrition session, Dr. Adeyemi, O.T. also had first position and was
given an award after presenting a paper titled “Influence of processing methods
on protein quality of Atlantic Horse Mackerel (Trachurus trachurus)”.

Call for proposals/fellowships The African Population and Health Research Center
(APHRC)
In partnership with the International Development Re-
search Center (IDRC) is pleased to announce the eight
call for applications for the African Doctoral Dissertation
Research Fellowships (ADDRF). The intention is to
strengthen their research skills and provide them an op-
portunity for timely completion of their doctoral train-
ing. ADDRF will award about 20 fellowships in 2015 to
doctoral students who are within two years of complet-
ing their thesis at an African university. Attach applica-

Kinship Foundation– Conservation Fellows 2015
Kinship supports fellows worldwide to participate in its
month-long conservation leadership program in the
USA, supported with stipends and lodging. Applicants
should be mid-career conservation practitioners with at
least five years of field experience, a bachelor’s degree,
and a demonstrated desire to innovate. Application peri-
od is November 1-january 26, 2015.
Audubon Naturalist Society– Small Grants for Con-
servation.
The Crowder– Messersmith Conservation Fund makes
grants for local conservation projects in developing
countries. The funds are seed money for communities
and individuals. Applications from developing countries
are invited. Grants are a maximum of 2000 U. S. dollars
for a year. Deadline for application is February 01.
Alexander von Humboldt Foundation -- Interna-
tional Climate Protection Fellowships. The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers 20 fel-
lowships for young climate experts from developing
countries interested in conducting a project in Germany
and pursuing long-term collaboration. The fellowship
allows future leaders to spend a year in Germany work-
ing on a research-based project of their own choice in
the field of climate protection. Fellows choose their own
hosts. The fellowship includes intensive language train-
ing and an orientation program at the introduction. The
deadline for applications is March 15, 2015.Link
Tusk Trust– Awards for African Conservation. The Tusk Conservation Awards highlights achievements
of individuals working in Sub-Saharan Africa.
The Prince William Award for Conservation in Africa is
awarded to a distinguished individual for contribution of
over ten years. The Tusk award is to an individual with a
minimum of five years experience who has demonstrated
a considerable commitment to conservation, who has
already made a significant impact. Both categories win a
trophy and grant to support further work. Deadline for
nominations is February 06, 2015
Eppley Foundation for Research—Grants for Re-
search in Environmental Topics The Eppley Foundation supports advanced scientific re-
search by scientists and medical doctors with established
records of publications in their specialties. These special-
ties include endangered animals and ecosystems; climate
change; and others. Deadline for letters inquiry are
March 15 and September 15
MasterCard Foundation— Graduate Studies for Afri-
cans at Michigan State University 2015 The MasterCard Foundation funds citizens and residents
of sub-Saharan Africa for graduate studies at Michigan
State University, USA. The fields of study at MSU include
agriculture and natural resources; veterinary medicine;
natural sciences; and many others. The deadline for com-
pleted applications is February 02, 2015
