What is Youth of the Year?

Youth of the Year is a year-round program focused on the development of Boys & Girls Club members as community leaders and begins at the local level as each Club selects its

Youth of the Month. A finalist from each of our Clubs competes to become the valley-wide Youth of the Year.

Club members who earn the Youth of the Year title embody the values of leadership service; academic excellence; and healthy lifestyles. They exemplify the critical impact that Boys & Girls

Clubs have on the lives of young people.

Candidates are evaluated on a number of criteria including academic performance, service in the community and the Club,

public speaking and essay writing.

Several thousand dollars in scholarships are awarded to the youth who participate in the valley-wide competition. Each of these outstanding Club members will serve as spokespersons

for the Boys & Girls Clubs in the coming year. The Youth of the Year winner will have the opportunity to compete with other Club members on the state, regional and national levels, earn scholarships, and possibly meet the President of the United

States.
