Policy Document SJCIT National Innovation and Startup Policy document of is divided into

following broad headings:

1. Strategies and governance for promoting Innovation &

Entrepreneurship at JCIT

SJCIT's investment in the entrepreneurial and innovation activities

should be a part of the Institutional financial strategy. Minimum 1%

fund of the total annual budget of the institution should be allocated

for funding and supporting innovation and startups related activities

through creation of separate Innovation fund' under IIC (lnsitutions'

Innovation Council). For expediting the decision making, hierarchical

barriers should be minimized and individual autonomy and ownership

Page 4: National Innovation and Start-up Policy (NISP)

of initiatives should be promoted. All achievements in the institute will

be measured by Innovation and Entrepreneurship developmnent cell

(IEDC). A bottom-up approach will be adopted for the implemen tation

of NISP and is intended to promote participation of all stake holders.

Institute is committed to resource mobilization from internal and

external sources. A single point mechanism is in the offing for quick

decision making.

2. Establishing Infrastructure facilitles and Nurturing Innovation &

Startups

SJCIT will facilitate all the students, faculties and staffs to utilize its

vast resources and infrastructure as needed. The Institute also

supports pre-incubation and Incubation by mobilizing resources from

internal and external sources. This Pre-Incubation/Incubation facility

will be accessible to students, staff and faculty of all disciplines across

the institution. SJCIT will offer mentoring and other relevant services

through Pre-incubation/Incubation units in-return for fees, equity

sharing and (or) zero payment basis. A minimum of 1% of annual

Institutional budget will be aliocated for innovation and start-up. Full

cooperation will be extended by the institute on resource mobilization

from financial institutes such as MSME, IEDC, DST, MHRD, AICTE,

CSIR, NRDC, Start-up India, Invest India etc. and other non-

governmental organizations etc.

3. Creating Innovation Pipeline and Pathways for Entrepreneurs at

Institute Level

SJCIT ensures the students, faculty and staff are exposed to

innovation and pre-incubation activities. Career development or

employability is the main part of our insiitutional entrepreneurial

agenda. Students/ Staff are taught the ways to solve the problems of

the society and consumers. Link between the incubation centre and

companies is established to foster the integration of education

Page 5: National Innovation and Start-up Policy (NISP)

activities with enterprise-related activities should be done. A certain

amount of budget will be allocated by SJCIT_IIC Cell for conducting

various activities related to innovation, startup and entrepreneurship

development. Networking events are planned for the budding

entrepreneurs to meet investors and pitch their ideas. An Innovation

tool kit is developed and kept on the homepage of the Institu tion

website to answer the queries of the innovators and to promote the

facilities available at the Institute.

4. Norms for Faculty & Students Driven Innovations and Startups

For better coordination of the entrepreneurial activities at SJcIT, the

norms are created to do startups for faculty and students. Faculty

who holds the executive position for more than three months in a

startup may avail Sabbatical leave/Leave without pay/Utilize existing

leave with an approval of the Committee. Faculty must clearly

separate and distinguish on-going research at the Institute from the

work conducted at the startup/company. Faculty must not involve

research staff or other staff engaged in academic projects of the

Institute in activities at the startup. The seniority and other academic

benefits of faculty during that period will be considered. Students who

are under incubation and pursuing some entrepreneurial ventures

while studying are allowed to use the address of the Institute to

register their company with due permission from the higher authority

of the Institute. Students are allowed to earn academic credits on

Innovation prototypes/business models and also avail a

semester/year break to work on their startup and rejoin academics to

complete the program. A committee will review the startup and based

on the progress made, the academic credits will be awarded. Faculty

and Students are allowed to use Infrastructure and facilities available

at the Institute.

and 5. Collaboration, Co-creation, Business Relationships

Knowledge Exchange

SJCIT has a tcam of Potential partners, Resource organizations,

Micro, Small and Medium sized Enterprises (MSMEs), Social

enterprises, Schools, Colleges, Alumni, Professional bodies and

Entrepreneurs to support Entrepreneurship and co-design the

programs. This will create co-creation, bi-directional flow/ exchange of

knowledge among the faculty and students. Guidelines are developed

managing the for both internal and external stakeholders for

relationships among al. Faculty, staff and students are given an

opportunity to connect with the external environment through

knowledge sharing in ways such as internships, teaching and

research exchange programmes, clubs, social gatherings etC.

6. Entrepreneurial Impact Assessment

Impact Assessment for pre-incubation, incubation, entrepreneurship

education is formulated with well-deined evaluation parameters. The

entrepreneurial assessment will be done by monitoring and evaluation

of knowledge exchange initiatives and exchange of all departments

and faculty in the entrepreneurial teaching and learning. The support

system provided and the number of startups created and new

busines relationships established in the Institute should be recorded
