OGS is an internationally-oriented public research institutefunded and monitored by the Italian Ministry of Education,Universities and Research (MIUR).

OGS’ roots date back to the School of Astronomy and Navigationfounded in Trieste by empress Maria Theresa of Austria in 1753.
