Camps are for ages 6-8 and 9-12. Our Education team has divided most winter break camp topics into age appropriate groups in order to provide campers with the best possible experience. Campers need to bring a daily, nut-free lunch and snack. If you have any questions, please contact the Museum at 505-245-2137, extension 103.

Science is Everywhere Winter Day Camp 2017

CAMPS FOR AGES 6-8 CAMPS FOR AGES 9-12EUREKA!Monday, December 18What was it like to be an engineer, an architect, an artist in the fifteenth century? Explore and create like the masters; Archimedes – Di Vinci. Build super structures using your creativity and some basic design principles and simple machines. Learn about the properties of building shapes and materials through hands-on experimentation. See if you have what it takes to build an arch sky high!

LOTIONS & POTIONS *GIFT EDITIONTuesday, December 19Having trouble finding the perfect gift for your Mom or Dad? Maybe for your best friend or grandpa? In Lotions & Potions, we’ll experiment with marbleizing, wax working, and more! Come craft some holiday gifts that your whole family will enjoy, ones you’ll enjoy making!

IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAYFriday, December 22Young Jedis can hone their skills in the ways of science. Ride a hovercraft, experiment with lasers, use Newton’s laws to master target practice, and devise a plan to challenge the Empire.

CODE OF THE ROBOTThursday, December 28Wall-E, Optimus Prime, the Mars Rover, and R2D2: robots are everywhere, but how do they work? Come find out at this introductory robotic coding camp. Using mBot and OZObots, you will learn why robots must always obey their human masters!

BALLOON BLAST!Friday, December 29Everyone loves balloons. Balloons are fun for everyone. You will be amazed at all of the wonderful, wacky things you can do with a balloon. From crazy noisemakers to rocket cars. Balloon blast is Mind Blowing!

LET ME ATOMWednesday, December 20If you’ve ever wondered about what happens to the other half of a half-life, what gamma radiation actually is, or how to turn lead into gold with atomic alchemy, then don’t spilt just yet. We’ve got an energetic and enriching new camp for you. Campers will use models, games, mathematics, and Geiger Counters to crack the secrets of the atom. You’ll delve deep into the world of subatomic particles and atomic theory in this safe, fun, and educational camp.

THE TOY FACTORY *GIFT EDITIONThursday, December 21Do you love to play with new toys? Test out toys and manufacture your own simple spinning, racing, or flying toys while exploring different materials and designs. Create a gift for your best friend, your sister or your brother…or maybe yourself!

Find out how heat is released into the environment with chemical reactions and then explore the properties of liquid nitrogen, make ice cream, and use your knowledge of thermodynamics in a hunt for a hidden item!

Myths & MonstersThursday, December 21Would you like to know where to find fantastic beasts? The realm of imagination is where we encounter our most heroic tales and weirdest monsters. Many of their stories come from early attempts to explain the universe. We’ll explore the origins of fairy dust in butterfly wings, chart a map to a secret location, and discover what animal features show up in modern monsters, like the one behind you!

BEST DAY EVERWednesday, December 20Our educators have teamed up to plan a camp featuring their all-time favorite activities! From static electric sparks, to gloppy gooey chemicals, take part in a one-day camp extravaganza! What activity will be your favorite?

CHEMISTRY & INTRIGUE

Unleash your inner scientist. Matter matters in this program about chemistry. What are chemical changes? Participate in an interactive chemistry investigation where the results can solve a mystery. You will have a great reaction!
