I thought it would be impossible to not know where I was going in Northern Ireland, but I had not reckoned on the twisty, winding, narrow roads around Slemish mountain! It seemed that every road I tried took me nowhere, I was getting further and further away from where I was meant to be. I thought I knew where I was going but I soon discovered I was fooling myself. I was wasting time, getting frustrated and missing out on what I was supposed to be doing – speaking at a deputation meeting! Sometimes when doing ministry people can become frustrated; time and resources can be wasted and we can even stray off course altogether. Why? Often in ministry we think we know where we are going but the reality can be very different. We can start off well, but over time we can become distracted and lose focus and direction because there is no vision! God’s Word says that, “...without vision, the people perish.” It is so important that leaders have vision, not their own personal vision or the vision of someone else, but God’s vision for the organisation. We in CEF ® Ireland are convinced that God would desire that all the children of Ireland have an opportunity to hear the Gospel at least once. We are reminded in Matthew 18 that, “...it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.” Therefore our vision is clear and definite, simple and yet profound: every child, every county, every day. To achieve this vision, there are many roads we could try to go down. However there are four specific avenues that we need to concentrate on and we believe these four avenues will help us to carry out the vision that God has given us. 1) We need to be focused on SHARING. To see every child in every county hearing the Gospel then the greatest need we have in CEF Ireland is to see more volunteers and more full time workers getting involved in the ministry. We need God to raise up an army of people who will passionately commit themselves to share the Gospel with precious boys and girls. We in CEF need to be out and about, SHARING our vision and SHARING about the spiritual needs of children with believers in local churches all over Ireland. To put it very simply, there are children waiting to hear, and we are determined to challenge as many churches as possible to get more involved in reaching these as yet unreached, unchurched children. 2) We need to be focused on TRAINING. As God thrusts out more volunteers and key workers to fill 20 vacant counties across Ireland, a definite need will exist for these people to be effectively trained for ministry. Children deserve the best and so we desire to see more volunteers being trained through our training ministries and also full time workers being trained at the Children’s Ministry Leadership Course. “If you do not know where you are going, every road will get you nowhere.” Henry Kissinger

I have experienced the reality ofthis quotation. I thought it wouldbe impossible to not know where I was going in NorthernIreland, but I had not reckonedon the twisty, winding, narrowroads around Slemish mountain! It seemed that every road I triedtook me nowhere, I was gettingfurther and further away fromwhere I was meant to be. I thought I knew where I wasgoing but I soon discovered Iwas fooling myself. Sometimes when doing ministry people can become frustrated; time and resources can be wasted and we can even stray off course altogether. Why? Often in ministry wethink we know where we are going but the reality can be very different. We can start offwell, but over time we can become distracted and lose focus and direction becausethere is no vision!

Everybody loves a good story. Every body loves to hearof the great things that God has done and is doing inIreland and beyond. Our workers in Ireland andmissionaries throughout the world have so many thingsto thank and praise God for. Let’s take a small glimpseat some of the things that have both encouraged andchallenged our workers. Also there are some things topray for and get excited about!

With summer just around the corner, there will be many things happening throughout Ireland and further afield. There are many opportunities to get involved and great things to look forward to and pray for.

The summer is packed with many camps, 5-Day Clubs, Holiday Bible Clubs and mission trips. We have already readhow God has impacted lives and encouraged some of our workers and missionaries. Let’s pray that this summereclipses those that have gone before, that many more children are reached with the Gospel than ever before, that therewill be hundreds of stories to tell of how God has impacted lives and answered prayer.

SUMMER WITH CEFON THE GROUND!

One thing that encouraged me over the last fewmonths was seeing the increasing Bible knowledge andlove for God of one young boy. He came along to campfrom being invited in school and every time I visit hisschool he amazes me with his Biblical understandingand love for God. I had a chance to talk to his Mothera few months ago and she said that she was amazedbecause he has been reading the Bible he got at campalmost every day since last Summer of his owninitiative. This is despite the fact that his older brothershave been teasing him for 'getting all religious'.

Claire Lamberton. Donegal

Over the last few months I have been encouraged tosee the enthusiasm of others. On 17th March twoteams of helpers volunteered to give out the StPatrick’s booklets at the parades in Omagh andStrabane. The booklets were very well received bychildren and even by some adults! A teacher in a local Primary School commented on howexcited her class were for the 5-Day Club that was tostart that afternoon. Please pray for more enthusiasticvolunteers and that many children will look forwardexcitedly to all the clubs that will be held over thesummer months.

It was wonderful to be in the meetings of two of ourprayer groups in Oslo. They pray faithfully and supportour work in Lapland and it was great to see theirenthusiasm and joy as they heard of how God isanswering their prayers. We have an exciting new project. Kirsti and I havetranslated “Do you wonder why” booklet whichRevival movement in Belfast has printed for us. It willbe coming to Oslo within the next few days and thereis a pastor in an International church who is receiving10,000 copies which his church (and hopefully someNorwegian churches) will distribute in Oslo in the nearfuture. We are praying that God will use this bookletto bring many to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus. Pleasepray with us.

Ida Johnston. Lapland

Every year in Ireland towns and cities are full of funand excitement as St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated. This is a great opportunity to go out and tell the boys andgirls about the life-changing Gospel message. Stephenand Tanya Hamilton tell us what happened when theydistributed the St. Patrick Day tract and booklet. There were over 7000 booklets and tracts given out atthe parade in Dublin City Centre. Two men stood andread the whole booklet as soon as they got it. Oneman (from Donegal) said that it was brilliant! Theother (from France) was also impressed and hadquestions about St. Patrick. There were another 5500booklets and tracts given out before the parade inparts of Dublin and Wicklow and we received very fewrefusals. During this time we meet a teacher who askedfor more St. Patrick booklets to give to the otherteachers in the school so they could maybe use them intheir classes.

3) We need to be focused on EQUIPPING. After thevolunteers and full time workers are effectively trainedand prepared for ministry, we then need to ensure weare EQUIPPING them with the most effective ‘tools’to enable them to share the Gospel with boys andgirls. It is vital that we continually keep improving ourteaching resources and promotional materials so thatchildren can be taught effectively. Winston Churchillonce said, “Give us the tools and we will finish thejob.” Our volunteers and workers need to be wellEQUIPPED to do the job of evangelism.

4) We need to be focused on SUPPORTING. WhenGod calls more full time workers into His harvest field, then these workers will need to be SUPPORTED,both prayerfully and practically. We have to ensurethat these new workers get all the prayerful, financialand practical SUPPORT they need, allowing themthen to go to share the Gospel with the children ofIreland. As leaders we will continue to SUPPORT and

encourage new workers in their ministry, but we needGod’s people to also stand with us and help us inevery way possible. When it comes to the needs ofSUPPORTING we are praying and asking God totouch peoples’ hearts. We trust as we SHARE thatmany new people will catch the vision and will beinspired to get involved with us.

Why did I get lost around Slemish? Simple. The Sat Navwas switched off!

If we are to remain focused and on course with our visionof every child, every county, every day, then the mostimportant thing we can do, is to keep asking God for helpand direction. He will lead us and provide for us everystep of the way. This vision is so big it is doomed to failunless God is in it. Don’t stand on the sidelines admiringthe view! Get involved on the journey with us!

Philip Annett(National Director)
