Kula Ag TourMaui’s agriculture scene has certainly changed. Gone are the expansive sugar cane fields of Big Ag, as well as most pineapple fields. There is an ever-expanding diversity of crops available from ‘boutique’ farms. ‘Farm to Spoon’ is popular as operators integrate their products into tourism, the dominant economy on this magical isle. For ‘onion folks’, the place to go is ‘Upcountry’. Here is where you find famous Maui Sweet Onions nestled within the slopes that descend from the ledge of Haleakala Crater. We are privileged to visit an onion farmer’s field, and a sweet onion variety trial in Kula Agricultural Park. Lunch will be hosted at Pukalani Community Center.

After lunch, you’re on your own. Start with this list of optional activities. Or, head back to the beach and enjoy the surf. Be safe and go in the Spirit of Aloha!

SPOUSE/FRIEND PROGRAM

BRUSHES & BITESDo you know how to have FUN? Can you hold a paint brush? Join Island Art Party and NOA for BRUSHES & BITES! (Conveniently located within Grand Wailea Resort)

A Partista (party artist!) provides entertaining, step-by-step instructions for you to paint and create your own Maui memory. With some sips and nibbles and great background music (you just try not to sing along!), it’s a party — Maui made!

So, what’s it like? You know when you go to a museum, and it’s really quiet and stuffy and everyone whispers??? Not like that! Everyone paints together, but we encourage

you to add your personal style. A break or two during the session allows the paint to dry and a chance for you to stretch your legs and check out the other masterpieces-in-progress.

“I can only draw stick figures and I haven’t painted since I was in grade school. Can I do this?” Absolutely, YES! Anyone – regardless of experience or talent – will not only finish their masterpiece, but will go home with a painting that, at the very least, resembles the featured example. Most likely, you will be surprised at how good you really are! We can’t promise that you’ll create fine art, but we’re certain you’ll create FUN art.

REMEMBER: All ‘registered’ attendees are invited to join the Food Conversations program opener and the Kula Ag Tour & Luncheon on Friday (11/30). Registrants are also invited to Saturday’s (12/01) breakfast program, a not-to-be-missed Maui Throwdown, and Keynote Seminar, Translating Farm to Food.
