ABOUT NARAD I am pleasured to present the annual report for the year of 2007-2008. From last 8 years NARAD has been trying to completion of their objectives and obtain better result. It has only happened by kind support of Government, Funding agency and well wishers. The NARAD reached in 350 villages so far in Thane District and 60 villages in Nashik District through various development projects. From the formation of National Rural Research and Development Association has been working progressively. NARAD is registered in 1999 under the society�s registration act of 1860. The association is endeavor to development of rural areas since 1999. The association is implementing a programme regarding rural development with the support of government and private funding. Also the organization is focuses in the area of Child Education, Self Help Groups, Nursery and plantation, Water & sanitation, Income Generation programme for poor tribal, to reduce child mortality rate and stop migration.

At present the National Rural Research and Development Association is working in Jalaswarajya project as support organization in 27 Grampanchayats of Wada, Vikramgad and Bhivandi block of Thane District. The jalaswarajya project is related to water and sanitation programme approved by World Bank to Government of Maharashtra. The project Acceleration of Universal salt Iodisation and Promotion of Child Survival is implementing in 110 villages of Jawhar block. UNICEF & Govt.of Maharahstra (Dept.of Women & Child Development) assisted funding for this programme through �Voluntary Health Association of Maharashtra� (VHAM),Sevagram. The NARAD is trying to keep continue its long term objective of education. This year Started 5 Balawadi in remote area of Jawhar Block for providing preprimary education to tribal child. Also new activity initiated this year for very poor katakari tribe. The main goal of this project is poverty alleviation.

We thanks to all Government agency, Private agency and well wisher who support to NARAD for implementation of various programme.

For to steady of peoples standard of life in the Area of natural adversity.

MAJOR ACTIVITIES OF THE YEAR 2007-2008.

The following were the major activities implemented by NARAD

1) Jalaswarajya Project 2) Acceleration of Universal Salt Iodization & Promotion of

Child Survival Project in Maharashtra 3) Balawadi 4) IGP (Income generation Project for Katakari Tribe)

1) JALSWARAJYA PROJECT The Jalswarajya project is implementing in 27 Grampanchayats of Wada, Vikramgad and Bhivandi block�s of thane district. The organization is working as support organisation in jalswarajya project. Main Goal of this project is everyone get pure and sufficient water, to live healthy and clean, everyone co-part in decision process, women empowerment, Transparency etc. In this project Initial capacity building, women empowerment and village water supply scheme are part of this project. Capacity building:- under this sub activity the NARAD is completed 100% programme in as per manual this year. Like Haldikunku, Rally, Health camp, Sports competition, essay competition, Study tour, cultural program, Kirtan, Bhajan etc. 5 days training workshop was

arranged for summitti member of all 27 grampanchayat. Following training was given to them a) Accounting b) Plumbing & Manson c) Water Management d) Tender System. This entire program arranges for the 27 grampanchayat peoples capacity

building. And the result is peoples are fully awared and trained about Jalaswarajya. People�s contribution is 100% collected (In cash & work donation) for the project. Peoples are using a handle pot to draw water from bowl.

Water Supply & Sanitation: - under this sub activity of Jalswarajya project searched the nearest water source to the village in 27 Grampanchayat. In this project 13 grampanchayat are tribal and 14 grampanchayat are no tribal. The tribal people was contribute 5% and no tribal was contribute 10% of estimate rate for complete the project. Today the

organization�s help 99% collection was complete and the remaining is in process. The Zilha Parishad Thane appointed a Technical Service Provider (TSP) for preparation of estimate & outline of water supply. TSP prepared estimate & structure with the help NARADs engineer. In the 27 Grampanchayat totals 87 well, 65 Hand pump & 30 water supply scheme was sanction. 99% work of this project is to be completed. Women�s Empowerment:- Under this sub Activity the NARAD formed 900 SHG of women�s in 27 Grampanchayat under the control of village women�s empower summiti. Zihla Parishad Thane is to be distributed 100% of fund to all summiti. The summits are distributed Rs 5000/- to each SHG as seed money for starting of business. The NARAD are provided following training to SHG a) Vermiculture b) Candle & Inscent stick making c) Papad & pickles d) Leaf plate making e) Preparation of nachani satva g) Jelly making etc. Today the SHG were started business like Dry fish sale, Vegetable, Vermiculture, Candle & In scent stick, Leaf plate, Papad & pickles etc. And they were sold this item in local market Wada. Today every woman saved some amount on their bank account and enhanced the living of standard. Also womens are taking participation in Gramsabha. 2) �Acceleration of Universal Salt Iodization & Pramotion of Child Survival in Maharashtra� The Project Acceleration of Universal Salt Iodization & Promotion of Child Survival is implementing for last 2 years. In starting the project was included two blocks such as Wada & Jawhar block. This year the VHAM planning to concentrate on one block of each district. So the NARAD selected Jawhar block and concentrated

with new activity of Promotion of Child Survival. The project is approved by UNICEF, Mumbai to Voluntary Health Association of Maharashtra for Maharashtra State .The VHAM selected to National Rural Research and Development Association as implementing Organisation for Thane District. Goal: - To aware the people about importance of iodine in our meal and about care of new born child. 3) Balawadi Programme: - This year NARAD started five Balawadi center in remote area of Jawhar Block where there no any govt.

facilities was available to provide pre-primary education to tribal children. At present there are studying 123 tribal children. The NARAD are provided them education materials, Toys and cloths. All the five villages i.e. Katakari pada, Solepada, Kenkodi and Navapada are situated in

hilly area of Jawhar. Goal: - To provide a primary education to Tribal child in remote area 4) IGP (Income Generation Programme):- There are many very poor tribal katakari communities who are migrating every year for searching seasonable job and working on brisk kiln, Drainage excavation, building construction and factory. Its lead to their health problems. The communities are very poor no agriculture and no any other income source available to them. The NARAD initiated Income Generation Programme for them.Five families of katakari community are started paper bag making buisiness.The NARAD provide training and materiarls.
