• “imports" refers to buying goods and services by the residents of the home country from residents of other countries

• Foreign Trade Statistics (FTS) cover only cross border trade

• FTS covers only trading of goods



Definition

• TurkStat is responsible for data production, publication and dissemination of external trade statistics since 1933.

• Turkey joined the Customs Union with the EU in 1996. Since then Turkish Customs laws and trade statistics have been harmonized with those of EU customs practices.

• Turkey is also member of a number of international conventions, such as the revised Kyoto Convention, the Convention on Harmonized System.
