GOVERNMENT ENGINEERING COLLEGE, KOZHIKODE
A BRIEF HISTORY
Kozhikode is most famous city of Malabar, the north region of Kerala. Once it was
a leading trading centre for spices and timber in the world itself. Ruled by Zamorin
dynasty, Calicut (previous name of Kozhikode) has a place in world history due to the
discovery of sea route to India by the Portuguese navigator Vasco Da Gama in 1498. He
landed at Kappad a few kilometers north of Kozhikode. The history of India changed
there after ultimately reaching the colonization by the British. Kozhikode came into
existence in 13th century
The Government Engineering college, Kozhikode was established in the academic
year 1999-2000. It is located at Westhill in the Kozhikode corporation area. It is just 5
kilometers away from Kozhikode railway station and is on the side of NH 17. Both the
KSRTC bus stand and private bus stands are about 4 kilometers from the college campus.
Calicut Airport is 25 Km south of the college. Beypore seaport is only 15 kilometers
away from the college.
The college motto and vision ensures quality education to cater the human
resource needs of the society as well as industry. The college offers full time M.Tech
degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Applied Electronics &
Instrumentation Engineering. B.Tech degree courses in the following branches of
engineering are also there.

World Environment Day Observation
The world environment day was observed by the NSS and Bhoomitrasena Club jointly. A
formal meeting was held in the college which was inaugurated by the principal
Prof.K.Vidyasagar. Sri.Binesh N V delivered the message of the day and described the theme of
this year‟s environment day “Think Eat and Save”. After the formal programme principal planted
a sapling in the campus as a token starting the environmental activities of the year. Volunteer
secretaries Mr.Hisham C K and Aswathy M lead the activities.
Environment Seminar and Film show
In connection with the world environment day the NSS and Bhoomitrasena Club jointly
conducted an environment seminar at GVHSS Kinassery. The Kozhikode corporation councilor
Smt.Valli Raman inaugurated the seminar. The Programme Officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath
introduced the environment day theme of the year “Think Eat Save”. School principal Smt.Jincy
C V, staff members Sri.Sharafudheen , Sri.Shiju, PTA president Sri.Noushad N V etc felicitated.
An environment related short film namely “Thalirnambukal” was also screened. The film was
directed by Ms.Shabna Ponnad , former student of the same school. The whole programme was
financially supported by Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment ,
Trivandrum. Volunteer secretaries Mr.Hisham C K and Aswathy M lead the activities.

Reading Day Observation
The reading day was observed by the NSS unit by conducting a reading contest on
19/6/2013 at Govt. Vocational Higher Secondary School , Kinassery , Kozhikode. The
competition conducted for the high school students of the school was inaugurated by the
headmaster Sri.Seydu Muhammed. About 40 students participated in the contest. Kumari
Fathima Sana and Shobhith P won the first and second prizes respectively. Malayalam teacher
Sri. Suresh K distributed the prizes to the winners. As a token of thanks the school was included
in our “Aksharadeepam” project. The book kit for the school was handed over to the principal
Smt, Jincy C V by the corporation councilor Smt.Valli Ramman in presence of the programme
officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath and volunteer secretaries Mr.Hisham C K and Ms.Aswathy M.
Admission Helpdesk
In order to help the parents and students in admission procedure of the college the NSS
volunteers started a helpdesk in the college. The volunteers cordially welcomed the parents and
students and guided them to various sessions. Also all the doubts of the new comers in
connection with the admission procedure were cleared by the volunteers with the help of
concerned authorities. The helpdesk worked on all the three days of admission.

Entrepreneurship Day observation
With the support of Entrepreneurship Development Club of the college the unit observed
National Entrepreneurship Day in which Sri Niranjan and Sri.Muhammed Harris handled
entrepreneurship training sessions. The students attended the message from Chief minister
Sri.Oommen Chandy and Industrial and Commerce minister Sri.P.K.Kunhalikkutty delivered
through Google hangout. Also with support of Junior Chamber International a motivation
class for the student entrepreneurs of the district in technical area was conducted. District
Industrial Officer Sri.Anandkumar lead the class.
“Karunykkudukka” launching
From the inspiration got through sponsoring the dialysis of a kidney patient for one year by
the fund raised through „one day one rupee‟ it was extended to homes by supplying a coin pot to
all the volunteers. The scheme named “Karunykkudukka” project was launched by NSS State
Liaison Officer Dr.K.Prakash in presence of State Youth Officer & Head Sri.C.Samuel Chelliah.
Programme Officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath, volunteer secretaries Mr.Hisham C.K and
Ms.Aswathi.M were also delivered speech.

Unit Annual Meet
The unit annual meet was inaugurated by the principal Prof.K.Vidyasagar. Programme
officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath gave a brief report of activities.Sri.Abdul Raheem, former NSS
programme officer , KGPTC Westhill took an orientation session. Senior volunteers Mr.Yasir V
P and Sandeep M A also shared their NSS experiences.Mr.Rakesh Rajan and Ms.Sreevidya P
were selected as new secretaries. The Kozhikode district launching of the SENA also took place.
The certificates of various camp participation was also distributed by different programme
officers who attended the programme.
Communal Harmony Ifthar meet
As art of developing communal harmony a grand ifthar meet for the students and staff of
the college was conducted by the NSS volunteers. In connection with this a communal harmony
meeting was also conducted. Mr.Nabeel Musliyar and Sister Sujaya delivered the communal
harmony messages. The messages inspired the volunteers and gave an idea about the need of
communal harmony. Programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath presided over the function.
Members from various religions appreciated the function. Some sisters from nearby convent
were also present as special guests.

Independence day Celebration
With the support of Kerala State Youth Welfare Board the NSS GEC Unit celebrated
the 67th independence day of the country. Principal in Charge Prof.A.K.Marakkarutty hoisted
the national flag. As part of the celebration a Gandhian Talk by Shri K.K Narayanan, Former
Professor of Guruvayoorapan college was organized. Youth Welfare Board members
Sri.A.Shiyali , Kumari O Saranya, District youth co-ordinator Sri.Rishil Babu and District youth
officer Sri.Vinodan Puthiyil,programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath etc felicitated the function.
Also a District Level Quiz Competition on Indian Independence History was conducted. Sri
Sandeep M A and Sri Thouseef V, Govt. Engineering College Kozhikode got the first prize in
the competition.
Visit to Deaf & Dump School
A visit to KARUNA Speech & Hearing School for deaf and dump children,
Eranhippalam, Kozhikode was conducted by the unit. Volunteers had an extraordinary and
fascinating interactive session with the children. They were exposed with their enthusiastic
ability, to make others joyful. The children taught the Volunteers how to talk with hands and
shared their experiences, problems and difficulties in their own language. They exhibited their
cultural talents also before the volunteers. The visit was a different experience to the volunteers
to know the other side of this beautiful world they are living and enjoying in.

Teachers day observation
Teachers are the social engineers. So they must be given due respect which is now a
diminishing attribute of the society. The teachers day was observed by the unit in a different
way. The volunteers themselves made greeting cards containing messages of teacher
appreciation as well as wishes. The same was handed over to each and every teacher of the
college with a “Guru Vandanam” on teachers day morning . Teachers were also very happy to
receive such a morning gift from the volunteers and to most of them this was a first experience in
their teaching life.
Uttarakhand flood relief works
Uttarakhand , a north Indian state faced a severe flood in this year which converted many
humans into homeless and helpless. Eventhough it was far away from our state as humans we
realized our responsibility. Understanding their pain and woes, the NSS unit came into action. A
relief campaign with main aim of dress collection for the flood victims of Uttarakhand was
conducted in the campus. Our aim was at least 100 pairs of dresses. But after the over whelming
response to the noble work , the collection crossed over 2 quintal of dresses which were sent to
the collection point located at Bangalore. All the students , staff and many well wishers
contributed dresses.

World Ozone Day Observation
With the financial support of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and
Environment Thiruvananthapuram, the NSS and Bhoomithrasena club jointly organized
many programs of a week duration as part of the world ozone day observation. The programs
included street play, quiz competition at college and schools, poster making , exhibition , slide
presentation, umbrella exhibition etc .Quiz competitions were conducted at St.Michle‟s higher
secondary School , Westhill and Kendreeya Vidyalaya Easthill , Kozhikode. The Ozone day
message “A Healthy Atmosphere, a need for the Future” was effectively conveyed to the minds
of young buds as well as the public through these activities.
National Blood Donation day observation
The national blood donation day was observed jointly by the NSS unit and Red Ribbon
Club of the college in association with the Kerala State Health Department. Deputy DMO
inaugurated the programme. Principal Prof.K.Vidyasagar , District blood donors forum secretary
Sri.Asokan, mass media officer Sri.Ibrahimkutty, programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath etc
felicitated the function. An awareness class lead by Dr.Mohandas , Senior Surgeon , Govt,
Hospital Kottapparamba was held for the students of our college. Then district level essay
competition related to blood donation took place. About 20 students from various campuses
participated in the competition. Ms.Sreevidya P of our college won first prize in the essay
competition.

“Oorjjakendra” inauguration
The NSS technical cell introduced a new idea namely Oorjjakendra for facilitating the
public in energy related problems and issues. Such Ooorjjakendra will be started in all NSS units
under the technical cell. The official inauguration of the oorjjakendra unit in our college was
done by the programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath. In connection with the inauguration , the
oorjjakendra under NSS and Bhoomithrasena club of the college jointly conducted Save Oil
Quiz programs with the support of Energy Conservation Society of Kerala at Technical high
school Westhill and St.Michael‟s Girls Higher Secondary School Westhill. The oorjjakendra
student co-ordinators Shahid A.C and Sooraj Punnattil lead the programs.
Woman’s Day Observation
The harassment against women are increasing day by day. Also the social status of women
are still not in a hopeful level. The various problems in different families are bursting out in
various ways. So it was the right time to think about the upliftment of women. The international
woman‟s day was observed by the unit in an auspicious way. The National Human Rights
Commission for Woman Kerala chapter chair person Smt.Sulaikha Ashraf took a motivation
class on the topic “Child Family and Society.” Volunteers interacted with the chair person with
various questions. Programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath presided over the meeting held in
connection with the day observation.

ASAP Day observation
The Additional Skill Acquisition Programme (ASAP) was introduced by the state govt.
to develop employability skills among youth and students along with their normal studies. It has
been getting wide popularity among youth. As per the direction from the state NSS cell ASAP
day was observed by the unit to spread the message of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme
to the student community. Various ornament making techniques from waste papers were taught
to the students. The class was lead by Smt.Radhika Renjith , faculty from Kerala Lalitha Kala
Academy Thrisur. It was a variety experience to both boys and girls who participated in the
programme.
Paneeyakkalari
The food we are eating had become a junk food nowadays. As a result of this fastfood
lifestyle a number of new diseases had appeared in our society. It was hightime to aware the
youth and public about this future threat due to the false lifestyle. Hence with the support of
Bhoomitrasena club another colourful programme named “paneeyakkalari” was conducted by
the unit as part of consumer day observation. A workshop was conducted for students and staff
through which 51 types of natural drinks were prepared using the common vegetables , fruits
and leaves. All the drinks were without sugar but sweaty ! Dr. Radhakrishnan and his team from
Gandhi Prakrthi Padhanakendram , Tirur lead the workshop. Kudumbasree members near the
college were also participated in the workshop.

Energy Conservation Campaign
Energy conservation is the need of the hour as most of the natural sources are near to
extinction. So the unit along with Bhoomitrasena club planned a home energy conservation
campaign with the slogan “energy conserved is energy created” . At the same time Kerala State
Electricity Board introduced the “Labhaprabha” scheme for energy saving. Under the leadership
of Oorjjakendra of the NSS unit , volunteers conducted the energy conservation campaign among
the common people by visiting their houses. As a result of this campaign more than 100
consumers registered in the “Labhaprabha” scheme.
Environment Enrichment Month Observation
As the month March has world forestry day , world water day and world climate day the
NSS and Bhomithrasena club jointly decided to observe this month as environment enrichment
month. The unit observed the forestry day by planting a “Orma maram” by Sri.V.K harindranath
, the unit advisory board member who was going to retire on 31st March 2014. In connection
with world water day the unit conducted a water quality survey at the houses near the college.
Water testing was also carried out for those using the water from their own wells. The climate
day was observed by the unit by collecting signatures from students on a canvas to support
Gadgil Report on Western Ghats. Many students supported the movement and signed in the
canvas. Programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath presided over the functions. Volunteer
secretary Sreevidya P lead the activities.

Blood Stem Cell collection Hunt
An extra ordinary hunt for the stem collection for bone marrow replacement of a child was
conducted by Datri (an NGO based in Chennai) with the support of Palliative care clinic
Kozhikode at City Palliative Clinic Kozhikode. The matching cells are to be cultured after
testing the saliva sample of thousands as the chance was very very rare. As per the request of
palliative care authorities our unit members under the Red Ribbon Club participated in sample
collection and also volunteered the programme. The wide publicity given through all types of
media brought thousands of people to supply sample for further testing. The sample collection
held in two days. Unit volunteer secretary Rakesh Rajan offered his selfless service during the
whole campaign.
Blood Donation Awareness Race
The NSS unit has a very active blood donation wing and an associated Red Ribbon Club.
We have been conducting many programs related to blood donation and AIDS awareness under
this club. As a result we cater many blood needs in and around Kozhikode city. When the blood
donation awareness race of Sri.Bobby Chemmannoor reached Kozhikode our volunteers also
participated in the run. Programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath facilitated the reception
programme held at Mofusil Busstand Kozhikode along with the honourable Minister for Social
welfare Dr.M.K Muneer, Corporation Mayor Prof.A.K.Premajam and District Panchayath
President Smt.Kanathil Jameela.

Anti Drug Kalajaadha
Eventhough Kerala is God‟s Own Country , the consumption of liquor and related drugs
are increasing day by day which has been a shame to the highly educated and well cultured
society of Kerala. To put a control on this bad habit the National Service Scheme and Kerala
State Excise Department jointly decided to conduct “kalajadha” in all campuses of Kerala to save
youth from these evils. As a part of this a warm reception was given to the Antidrug Kalajadha
organized in the district by VHSE NSS directorate jointly by NSS and Red Ribbon Club of the
college . The team leader Sri.P.Karunakaran introduced the message of the programme. The
convener Sri.Faisal K P welcomed the gathering.Programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath
delivered vote of thanks.
“Aksharadeepam” Project
The unit has an innovative and unique project namely “Aksharadeepam” through which
school libraries are enriched by supplying books to their library. This year books were supplied
to GVHSS Kinassery, Kozhikode as a token of thanks to host our environment day seminar and
the reading competition. Corporation councilor Smt.Valli Raman handed over the books to the
school principal Smt. Jincy P V. This years annual seven day camp of the unit was hosted by
GLPS Parayanchery. As a thanks giving a set of books for the lower primary students were
donated to the school library. Headmistress Smt.P.Vijayalakshmi received the books from the
programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath in presence of the higher secondary school principal
Smt.Suhara.

“Sanika” Malayalam monthly manuscript
Malayalam is the mother tongue of our state. Still most of us are using other languages for
communication and writing. But the state govt. officially declared 2013 as the year for
Malayalam language promotion. Different ways were adopted by various organizations. As the
part of mother tongue promotion our NSS unit has been publishing a manuscript namely
“SANIKA” in Malayalam every month since January 2013.A group of volunteers are given the
duty to prepare and publish it in each month. However when university exams going on that
month‟s “Sanika” will be either dropped or published lately. Every Sanika focus on specific
subjects related to that month.
Three Day Orientation Camp
As a tradition for the last three years , as the last programme of this academic year a
camp was planned in the campus. A three day orientation camp was conducted in the college
with a focus on Environment protection. Kozhikode Paristhithi Samrakshana Samithi chairman
Sri.Sreevalsan inaugurated the camp. Noted environmentalist and organic farmer Sri.Tony
Thomas Palakkad interacted with the students on the second day of the camp. Most of the doubts
and confusions regarding Gadgil – Kasthoorirangan reports were cleared through this interaction.
Also a session on blood security and AIDS was held. The first official general body of the SENA
unit of our college also was called in connection with the camp in which about 30 members
participated. A number of other activities were also conducted as part of the camp.

Annual Special Camp and Punarjjani Project
The annual special camp 2013 was officially inaugurated by the Hon. Minister of
Department of Social Justice Dr. M. K. Muneer on 21st Dec 2013 at GLP School
Parayancheri. Sri Abid Tharavattath, NSS programme Officer delivered the welcome speech.
Principal Dr. Baiju Bai, presided over the function. Sri.C.K Subair(Expert Member Kerala Youth
Welfare Board) presented the Special Address. Sri Shiyali A (Member, Kerala State Youth
Welfare Board), Sri. Rishil Babu K( District Youth Coordinator, Kozhikode), Sri. N. Sudakaran(
PTA President, GEC Kozhikode), Sri. Sreekumar(Ward Councilor, Ward 27, Puthiyara), Sri
Sulfeeker Aly(Punarjjani Field Oficer), Sri Prasad Kumar, Sri.Binesh N V etc felicitated .
A rally was conducted from Government Mental Healthcare Centre and reached Kottooli
through Pottammal junction covering about 4 kilometers. The volunteers performed street drama
at Pottamal junction and Kottooli. The rally was attractive due to the uniform dress ( T-shirt and
cap) and drum team.
The main activity of the camp was repairing of hospital equipments and furniture under
the Punarjjani project in association with the Kerala State Youth Welfare Board. The
equipments of five wards out of nine wards were renovated when 6 days work was completed.
The renovated equipments include 154 cots , 34Tables , 3 Oxygen cylinder stands , 2 screens , 4
I V stands , 4 food trolleys, 2 television stands , 1 grill Etc. One television also was repaired with
the help of technical staff from the college. The estimated value of these renovated
equipments were nearly 8 lakhs. As the electrical works were already given contract we were
not able to do more in that area. Plumbing problems were not reported by the authority and hence
didn‟t carry out.
. In addition, we conducted a Christmas carol for the inmates of Mental Health Centre,
Kozhikode, It was a great experience to them . A cultural programme was also conducted for
them which was inaugurated by Sri.Babu Swami (Cine Artist).
As part of the camp different educational sessions were also held. The sessions were
handled by Dr.N V M Safarulla ( Clinical Psychiatrist), Mr.Unais ( Kerala Social Security
Mission) , Mr.Raghu ( RJ Radio Mango ) and Mr.Chandrasekharan (Alcoholic Anonimous
Group).
. The Closing Ceremony was inaugurated by Smt. Vijayalakshmi, Head Mistress, Govt.
L.P School, Parayancheri, Kozhikode, Smt Suhara, Principal, Govt. Higher Secondary School for
Girls, Parayancheri delivered special address, Shri. Abid Tharavatttath, NSS Program Officer,
presided the Function, Shri Sulfeekar Aly, Field Officer, Punarjjani, Shri Prasad Kuamar, Shri
Ratheesh ,Staff, GEC Kozhikode felicitated.
A cultural feast was staged by the volunteers for the natives on the closing day of the
camp. Sri.Vinod Kovur(Cine artist) inaugurated the Cultural night.
Volunteers were very happy and thankful for unique experience. Volunteers took
enthusiastic hard work during the whole seven days, making the project a grant success.

National Camps Participation
1. Republic Day Parade Camp, New Delhi
After the receipt of Indiragandhi NSS National Award another golden feather was added
to the cap of GEC NSS unit when the second year volunteer Ms.Anusha A was selected to the
Republic Day parade camp held from January 1st to 31st , 2014 at New Delhi. She was included
in the NSS team to march in Rajpath on 26th January. As part of the camp the team was given
reception at Rashtrapathi Bhavan , Prime Minister‟s house and Vice President‟s residence.
2. National Youth Festival , Ludhiana, Panjab
It was another golden feather on the cap of the unit when the Programme officer of the
unit Sri.Abid Tharavattath was appointed as contingent leader of Kerala NSS team for the
18th National Youth Festival AT Ludhiana , Panjab from 12
th to 16
th January 2014. Also the
volunteer secretary Ms.Sreevidya P was a member of the team.The team contained 4 volunteers
each from technical cell and Calicut University ,2 volunteers from VHSE directorate and one
national award winning volunteer.
3. Pre RD parade camp, Salem,Tamilnadu
It was for second time in the history of the unit our volunteer got selection to Pre RD
parade camp.Ms.Anusha A was the volunteer got selected to PRD camp at Salem from 7th to
16th October 2013. Later she got selection to RD camp at Delhi also.

1. Indira Gandhi NSS National award for best NSS Unit and best
Programme Officer
Every NSS unit and programme officer of the country has a dream to be the best unit in
the country. Through its various unique social activities the two time state best NSS unit
award winner Govt. Engineering College Kozhikode had bagged the prestigious
Indiragandhi NSS National award for best unit in the country. The ever victorious
programme officer of the unit Sri.Abid Tharavattath was selected as the best programme
officer in the country. The award included a trophy and cash prize for the unit. The programme
officer award include medal, certificate and cash prize.
In a ceremonious function held on 2014 November 19 at Darbar Hall of Rashtrapathi
Bhavan , New Delhi the honourable Indian President Sri.Pranab Kumar Mukharji
distributed the award. Principal Prof.K.Vidyasagar received the best unit award and programme
officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath received the best programme officer award.
The programs that lead to this Himalayan achievement include “Sahavasikkoru veed” , a
house construction for a poor lady near the college , “One Day One Rupee” to sponsor the
dialysis expense of a patient for one year , “Sanika” , a monthly manuscript in Malayalam to
promote the language , “My Birthday an Earthday” to promote environment friendly activities on
birthday celebration occasions , “Zero Waste Calicut” to make Calicut city as waste free and so
on. The variety of program captured the attention of media as well as the official attention.
The programme officer and his team was given a warm welcome at Kozhikode Railway
station by SENA members, NSS volunteers and the college union members on arriving after the
receipt of award. The college PTA , college staff and NSS volunteers were also arranged
appreciation meetings to the award winners.
Mr.Abid Tharavattath – an ex NSS volunteer during his college days has been leading the
NSS unit as programme officer for the last four years. Under his leadership the unit had bagged
23 awards from various agencies. Majority of them are state level awards which add glory to the
cap of the unit.

2. State Govt. Award for Best NSS Unit and best Programme Officer
For the second consecutive year the NSS unit bagged the award for best NSS unit in
Kerala. The Programme officer of the unit Sri.Abid Tharavattath was selected as the best
programme officer in the state for the second consecutive year also. The award included trophy
and certificate. The awards were distributed by Hon‟ble Minister for Education Sri.P.K.Abdurrab
in a function held on NSS day 24/9/2013 at Mahathma Gandhi Municipal Townhall, Aluva. The
Principal in charge Prof.Rajini O received the best unit award and programme officer Sri.Abid
Tharavattath received the best programme officer award. Various social and political leaders
were present in the occasion.
3. Directorate level award for best volunteer and top scorer
The directorate level award for best volunteer was bagged by Mr.Hisham C K , former
volunteer secretary and the top scorer award (Engineering stream) was bagged by Kumari
Lakshmi S. Both received the awards in the annual NSS meet held at Sree Narayan Guru
Institute of Science and Technology, North Paravur, Eranakulam. The programme officer
Mr.Abid Tharavattath was also honoured on account of the prestigious Indira Gandhi NSS
National Award for the second time only in NSS Technical cell units. Kumari Anusha also
honoured as the one and only one RD parade contingent from NSS technical cell in this year.
The best volunteer award was bagged by the unit for the fourth consecutive year. Eminent state
leaders of department as well as NSS were present at the award distribution function.

4.State level award for best Bhoomithrasena Club
As per the recommendation from NSS Technical Cell , the Department of Environment
and Climate Change , Govt. of Kerala started the Bhoomithrasena club in 2012. The
Bhoomitrasena working in association with NSS unit conducted many environment enrichment
programs in and out of the campus. In recognition to this the club received the best
Bhoomitrasena Club state award in North Kerala for the year 2013-14, instituted by Dept. of
Climate and Environment Change , Kerala. The award was received by faculty in charge
Sri.Abid Tharavattath from Trivandrum corporation mayor Ad.K.Chandrika in presence of
Hon‟ble minister for Forest and Environment Sri.Tiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan in a function held
at VJT Hall , Trivandrum. The award included a trophy and cash prize.
5.Appreciation award for Punarjjani project implementation
The punarjjani project of NSS Technical cell for hospital equipments repairing across
Kerala was a highly effective programme that captured all media attention. Equipments of more
than 5 crore rupees were repaired through the annual seven day camps of selected institutions
across Kerala with the support of Kerala State Youth Welfare Board. The NSS unit also received
the appreciation award of Kerala Youth Welfare Board for the successful implementation of the
Punarjjani project in Kozhikode Mental health care centre. The award received by the
programme officer Sri.Abid Tharavattath in a programme held at Kanakakkunn Palace,
Trivandrum.

CONCLUSION
NSS being a socially oriented movement, its platform of activity is always the
society. It cannot conduct a programme which is not related to society. Also it has to
associate with many individuals, associations and institutions that render their services in
