Report of 2014-15
Activities during the year are as follows :
1. Protest against BDA’s inability to prevent encroachment of Bangalore lakes. 09th May 2014
Our NSS volunteers participated in this protest:
Rini .K.M of 2nd year B.Sc and Hemavathi.S of 2nd year B.A.
2. International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
26th June 2014. Our students volunteered a rally creating universal awareness
about the ill effects of drug abuse and trafficking with Narcotic Control Bureau,
Narcotic Drug Cell, Karnataka State Temperance Board and RASP (Rehabilitation
from alcohol, substance abuse and prevention). 50 NSS volunteer’s participated
in this rally.
3. Fresher’s week events conducted by the NSS unit on 4th and 5th July 2014:
Day 01: Collage: it’s a competition conducted for the fresher’s. The Theme for
collage was Guns and Roses of Society. By this we created awareness and
showcased about the problems in the society.
Day 02: Best out of waste: The participants had to use waste materials brought
by them and had to make something creative and useful.
4. Inauguration of NSS for Enrolment of fresh volunteer’s for the year 2014-2015
on 14th July 2014. For the Academic Year 2014-15 we started fresh enrolment of
volunteers to NSS activities around 300 volunteers are registered. The new
volunteer’s were welcomed by taking the Pledge for NSS.
5. Silent Rally against Child and women abuse. 22nd July 2015
50 NSS volunteers participated in this silent march. The march was from Mount
Carmel College to High grounds Police Station.
6. Clean Drive Campaign in MCC campus on 26th July 2014. NSS volunteer’s
created awareness about the waste management to the students of MCC for a
clean campus.
7. Cul-week events conducted by NSS unit on 7th and 8th August 2014:
Day 01: Treasure hunt: in which 15 teams took part, where the students were
given clues to find out the final message.
Day 02: Pick and Act: students had to choose a chit and act according to it.
8. The Motherhood Walkathon in association with Superhits 93.5 Red FM on
“World Breastfeeding Week 2014”. 9th August 2014
The Walkathon was conducted from MCC to Maharani College. Our NSS students
also participated in creating awareness about the importance of breastfeeding
and witnessed the successful walkathon.
9. Independence Day Celebration on 14th August 2014.
Our NSS Volunteers took main part in celebration of Independence Day and they
showcased different cultures of our Nation and States and presented importance
of Independent Nation & independence.
NSS volunteer’s performed a dance showing the unity and culture of different
states of our Country.
10. Citizen for Namma Safe Bengaluru 24th August 2014
A 10Kilometre marathon was conducted from St.Alyosious College in which 60
students from NSS participated with many other participants resisting the
violence against girls, women and children.
11. Fund Raising Program for Treatment of Blood Cancer was done on 13th
September 2014.Our NSS volunteer’s helped in raising Fund for a child suffering
from Blood Cancer and we helped them to get treatment from the best hospitals.
12 . Gandhi Jayanthi Celebration 2nd October 2014
NSS volunteer’s attended Gandhi Jayanthi Celebration at MG Road in front of
Gandhi Statue. We joined to the bajan held by many governtment officials. Then
we volunteered for inaugural of Gandhi’s statue in Vidhana Soudha, which was
inaugurated by CM of Karnataka, Mr. Siddharamayya.
13. Education Fair 6th December 2014
This Fair helped the Volunteer’s in explaining the significance of NSS to the people
outside and helped them to know more about NSS and discover the variety of
careers options in NSS.
14. Swatch Bharath Campaign Or the Junkyard Project : 20th December 2014
80 NSS volunteer’s were successful in cleaning up Vasanthnagar, Bangalore
and Painting the walls in preventing urination with the help of our Union
Members, M TV, etc.
15. Republic Day Celebration : 24th January 2015 NSS volunteer’s performed Dance for the celebration of our national festival
by showing unity of our country and a tribute to Bharathmatha.
16. Cul-ah: 31st January 2015
Conduced event SKIT with Social Issues as the theme. Many teams from
different colleges participated and gave a very beautiful presentation. St.
Josephs Commerce College won the first prize.
17. National Disaster Reduction Day and Rally: 6th February 2015
25 NSS volunteer’s attended a rally for the National Disaster Reduction Day in
Kanteerava Stadium.
18. Neralu: 7th and 8th February 2015
15 Volunteer’s participated in the event called “Neralu” which was
organized in National Modern Art Gallery, this was an event conducted for
saving Trees and also volunteered in Audio –Walk or a Conversation with trees,
and helped the blind people with Audio walk and made them understand the
importance of particular trees and helped them to feel the tree . And even
conducted Games for children based on the concept Save Trees.
Special Village Camp: 15th February – 22nd February 2015.
This Special Village Camp was held under the campaign “Namma Halli”
in the village called Huvinayakanahalli, 2kms away from Bagalur, Bengaluru
North. There were many developmental works like: Infrastructure Development in
the Village, Women Health and hygiene awareness, Entrepreneurship Training
Program, Organizing Competition for village Women, Theme based
Entertainment, Painting of School Building and compound, Organizing Sports for
Villagers, Planting of saplings, Orientation for Students, Cleaning of School
Premises, Lectures on create awareness among Villagers on Child Abuse, Child
Labour, Dowry, Legal and Law, etc.
DAY 1:
We reached the village Huvinayakanahalli near Bagalur where we would our 1
week camp. First day we had inauguration of the Camp, Later our volunteers went
to the village to invite all the villagers for the inauguration ceremony. The kids and
the villagers were very welcoming. The villagers had given us accommodation in
one of the government schools. The volunteers tried to settle themselves and
started preparing for the inauguration of our camp. Evening we had orientation
after that we organized skit on Child Labour.
DAY 2:
Began the day with hoisting of the NSS flag with NSS song and warm up
Exercises, our day started by cleaning the surrounding of the school where we
stayed. After that we visited villager’s houses and asked them about problems
faced by the villagers. Evening we also spread awareness among the villagers on
social security, women empowerment, legal awareness, health and hygiene.
DAY 3:
Our day started with Flag hosting with NSS song and warm up Exercises, then we
helped in construction of Cement benches under the tree to sit and study for the
Village School students and then we thought some entrepreneurial skills by visiting
to the houses of the villagers, and there we taught them how to make different
kinds of candles as it could give them a chance to start a small business on their
own. Later we played with the kids and also helped them in learning English,
Rhymes, grammatical and action songs.

DAY 4:
Began the day with hoisting of the NSS flag with NSS song and warm up
Exercises, and some volunteers helping in digging for pipeline connection to
drinking water facility for Villagers, some volunteers moved to the village side for
cleaning. We thought villagers some of the entrepreneur skills which they can earn
in the free time. Our volunteers showed their creativity as they taught different
varieties of Earrings Making, Bangles, Embroidery, pillow making, soap powder
making, shampoo making, and detergents. Evening As we were teaching we also
interacted with them and tried to make a friendly relationship among the women in
the village.
DAY 5: Our Team took up the task of Painting of compound wall and School
Building. It was indeed a hard work and great day. And in the afternoon we planted
250 samplings in the school premises and road side of the village. Evening we
organized Drama on Women Empowerment
DAY 6:
This day is very memorable day because in two Bricks Factories there are 17
Childs labourers are working in that our NSS Volunteers went and rescued them
and make them to go School with providing basic things like Cloths, Books etc.
We organized sports for the school kids, village youths and rangoli competition for
the women. The winners were announced and prizes were distributed to the
winners. Organised awareness Programme services offered by Banks.
Our volunteers started involving themselves in the preparation of the valedictory
program of the camp. We had to make a lot of arrangements. The heads of the
village graced the occasion.
DAY 7:
It was really hard to leave the villagers as it was our final day. Most our volunteers
were sad as it was our final day. The villagers and the kids had become so
important for us. We performed a skit about Women harassment in the centre of
the village. We packed all our bags and departed from the village.
MCC-NSS- Achievements of 2014-15
Adopted a Village Called Huvinayakanahalli, Near Bagalur, Bangalore
North. We carried out Developmental activities (Approx. 5,00,000)
Organising Blood Donation Camp at our College and planning to collect150
units of Blood.
Drinking Water Facility for Villagers
(Pipeline for about 150 Mts. 1, 00,000 Rs.)
Constructed benches below the trees to the School Childrens to sit and study
(20,000 Rs.)
Saved Child Labourers (17) and Sent them to School with providing Basic
needs like Cloths & Books
Thought the Govt. School Students about drawing, teaching English etc.
Painting of Compound for Govt. School (400 Sq.ft.)
Planted 150 Samplings.
Created awareness on AIDS, Women Health & hygiene
Created awareness on Waste Management.
Created awareness on Traffic Management on Roads along with Traffic
Police.
Volunteers participated in Swatch Bharath campaign
Awareness about Banking Services
NSS students went to more than 30 Govt. Schools to Teach the Poor Kids.
Free distribution of Note and Text Books (50 Students).
Organised Sports for Villagers, School Students and Village Women’s
Voluntarily working with NGO’s to make a change in the Society
Participating and Celebrating the National Festivals.
Organising Guest Lectures on Social Issues, Women Empowerment, Legal
Awareness, Safety, Health and Hygiene.
Provided Training on Entrepreneurial Skills to Poor People
Provided Seed Capital to Poor Community to start a Own Business.
Organized special Village camp and stayed over there for carried
Developmental activities.
And many more…
