GEO- UNESCO Workshop: AFRWCCI Demo Project Session
Introduction• The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA)
was established with a mission to pursue the development and
application of space science and technology for socio-economic
benefits of the nation.
• Nigeria’s desire to venture into Space Technology was first made
known to ECA/AOU member countries at an inter-governmental
meeting in Addis Ababa, 1976.
• Policy Statement
• Government would vigorously pursue an immediate attainment of
indigenous space capability in Nigeria:
– As an essential tool for its socio-economic development
– for the enhancement of the quality of life of its people

Where we differ• NigeriaSat 2 and X
• Resolutions from 32 – 32, 22, 5, 2.5 (four Cameras)
• Number of bands (3 and now 4)
• Stereo capabilities
• Two satellites
• Ground stations capabilities
All these say we have five products + stereo products
In Areas of water
• Having collaboration with Federal Ministry of Water Resources in Dam sediment mapping
• Carrying Out Sea Level Rise Analysis with some Universities
• Establishment of Laboratory in Bayero University Kano for Space-base hydrologic Information development
• We are part of Chad Basin Stakeholders that signed an MOU in 2009 and have carried out some researches in this areas. Some are still going on with UMKC.
• Willing to help in capacity building

NASRDA AND AFRICA
• Support to Institutions in Africa with Data
• Taking part in projects for Africans and with African
across Africa
• Serving as Regional Support Office for UN-SPIDER
• Strengthening the two Constellations for benefit of
humanity
• Assisting in data revolution in Africa
• Developing capacity in space science and
Technology
• Increasing our collaborations in Africa
Areas of collaborations
• Data sharing and dissemination
• Capacity development and sharing
• Joint Research and model
Development
• Facilities sharing
CONCLUSION
• This is another area NASRDA is willing to
contribute to as a common problem in Africa
• We are refocusing our attention to African needs
and also elaborating our areas of collaborations
and thus have launched the first satellite in the
African Resource Monitoring Constellations.
• We represent Nigeria in GEO and are committed to
work with others in this area.
