As a cathedral that claims a national role, identifies itself as a house of prayer for all people, and is located in the heart of the Nation’s Capital, Washington National Cathedral desires to be a spiritual home for those who have served, their families, and the military community.

From its institutional beginnings, the Cathedral has held high regard for military service. Through the building itself, as well as worship services and commemorations, this institution has honored military service through two world wars and, to date, conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, and other places around the world.

For almost seventeen years, our country has been in a constant state of military conflict. Thousands of men and women have served in the US Armed Forces. They and their families deserve our respect and support. Across the generations, some of those who have served have found it difficult to reintegrate into civilian life. For these individuals, and those who care for them, the Cathedral seeks to be a source of comfort and God’s healing love for veterans, their families, and active duty men and women.

Whether you are military or civilian, we hope that tonight’s tribute will inspire you to offer your support to this community. performers“THE PRESIDENT’S OWN” MARINE CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

Established by an Act of Congress in 1798, the U.S. Marine Band is America’s oldest continuously active professional musical organization. Its mission is unique—to provide music for the President of the United States and the Commandant of the Marine Corps. Because of the demands of this unique mission, “The President’s Own” is known to have included strings when performing for major White House events as far back as 1878 and during the directorship of John Philip Sousa. An orchestra taken from within the Marine Band also gave regular concerts at the Marine Barracks music hall in Washington, D.C., as early as 1893.

In addition to its regular appearances at the White House, the Marine Chamber Orchestra performs concerts during both an annual showcase series and summer series. Performing a wide variety of music from the staples of the orchestral repertoire to modern works, Broadway, and light classical selections, these concerts give patrons a virtual glimpse inside the Executive Mansion. The musicians of the Marine Chamber Orchestra are frequently highlighted in solo performances and also participate in chamber ensemble recitals and educational outreach programs that feature a variety of smaller instrumental groups.

Whether performing for presidents, heads of state, concert patrons or students across the National Capital region, the music of “The President’s Own” Marine Chamber Orchestra is the music of America.

Washington National Cathedral has a number of choirs, all of which are influenced by the centuries-long tradition of Anglican music. The Cathedral maintains both a boys and girls choir, which together undertake the daily round of sung worship throughout the year. The boys choir was founded in 1909 and the girls in 1997. For liturgically significant times of the year, national services and concerts, the senior boys and girls combine to form a mixed boys and girls choir. Each permutation of these children’s choirs are supported by a team of professional musicians from the greater Washington/Baltimore area who sing countertenor, tenor and bass. With the increasing demand on the choir to fulfill liturgical and non-liturgical commitments, and in an effort to manage the workload on the boys and girls, the Cathedral Choir also appears as a fully professional choir—tonight is one of those occasions.

The choirs have been heard in radio broadcasts for pri and have participated in televised Cathedral services and those of national and ecumenical importance such as the presidential inaugural prayer services, the 9/11 prayer service, prayer service for the victims of Hurricane Katrina, and the state funerals of former Presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Reagan. More recently they have led the musical tributes for the national memorials for Neil Armstrong and Nelson Mandela.

DIRECTOR COLONEL JASON K. FETTIG is the 28th Director of “The President’s Own” United States Marine Band. He joined in 1997 as a clarinetist and soon became a frequently featured soloist with both the band and the Marine Chamber Orchestra. After serving four years in the organization, he was select ed as an Assistant Director, and he conducted his first concert with the Marine Band Aug. 1, 2001. He was commissioned a first lieutenant in July 2002, promot ed to captain in August 2003, and became the band’s Executive Officer the following year. He was promot ed to major in August 2007 and to lieutenant colonel in July 2014, one week before assuming leadership of “The President’s Own.” He was promoted to his present rank in August 2017 in the Roosevelt Room by President Donald J. Trump. He is the third Director of “The President’s Own” to be promoted to colonel in a White House ceremony.

Col. Fettig is a 1993 graduate of Manchester Central High School in New Hampshire and holds two bachelor’s degrees from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst (UMass) in both clarinet performance (1997) and music education with an emphasis in conducting (1998). In 2005, he earned a master’s degree in orchestral conducting at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMD) where he served as assistant conductor for two productions of the Maryland Opera Studio. He studied clarinet with Michael Sussman and David Martins, and his principal conducting teachers were Malcolm W. Rowell and James Ross. Additionally, Col. Fettig has par ticipated in workshops with several renowned conductors including Osmo Vänskä and Otto Werner Mueller.

GREG RUSSELL (ANNOUNCER) is a network engineer for NASA, an athlete, and an esteemed Air Force Veteran – and just like everything he does, Greg takes honing and excelling at his voiceover and acting craft very seriously. Greg has lent his voice to some significant corporations such as Pepco, Atlantic City Power, Delmarva Power, and ManTech International, NASA and the Smithsonian. He’s been the PA announcer for The University of Maryland, Loyola University and DeMatha High School all for various sports.

EMY CEE is an R&B singer raised in Spanish Harlem, New York. Her music influences include the big forces in music and R&B, divas such as Chaka Khan, Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Mary J. Blige, Etta James, Aretha Franklin and many more. Emy joined the choir at her local church, here she was introduced to classical performing, singing soprano pieces such as Franz Schubert’s “Ave Maria” on of her favorites.

Following the attacks of 9/11 Emy took a break from music to serve her country in the United States Army. Now a Veteran and seasoned singer, Emy Cee has performed on many stages across the US alongside a number of talented musicians including Roger Waters of the legendary Pink Floyd, GE Smith, JW Cortes, Bruce Springsteen and comedian Jerry Seinfeld as part of a benefit concert by the Bob Woodruff Foundation in support of wounded veterans. Emy Cee is currently working on a fusion music project in NYC and continues to support veterans through the arts. In addition to music, Emy Cee has an extensive career as a voice over artist and has stepped into the world of acting and scored a small cameo appearance in the film iCreep, starring Adrian Martinez (Focus) and Dascha Polanco (Orange is the New Black).

SOLDIER HARD (JEFF BARILLARO) is the founder of Redcon-1 Music served 10 years in the United States Army as a 19Kilo (Armor Crewmen). He was deployed to Kuwait, Kosovo and Iraq in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was diagnosed with Severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder by Civilian and Veteran Affairs Doctors. As therapy to combat PTSD he creates Military Themed music sharing his experiences in the Music Art form. He is accompanied by one of his artists with Redcon-1 Music Group, J-Deuce (Jerry Lozano). J-Deuce is currently serving on Active Duty with the USMC.

JAMES MCEACHIN served in the United States Army before, and then during, the Korean War. Serving in King Company, 9th Infantry Regiment (United States), 2nd Infantry Division, he was gravely wounded in an ambush and nearly left for dead. McEachin was one of only two soldiers to survive the ambush. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and Silver Star for his valor.

Following his military career, McEachin dabbled in civil service, first as a fireman and then a police officer. Following a career and a record producer he was signed by Universal as a contract actor in the 1960s. McEachin is perhaps best known for his roles on Perry Mason, Matlock, Play Misty For Me, and his NBC series Tenafly. He enjoyed an illustrious career and eventually retired. Since retirement, McEachin has authored six novels, multiple screenplays, and his one-man play, entitled Above the Call; Beyond the Duty which opened at DC’s Kennedy Center in 2008. The two-hour play has been seen in places as far away as Kuwait.

In the 1990s, he semi-retired from acting to pursue a writing career. His first work was a military history. On November 1, 2013 the GI Film Festival awarded him the 2013 GIFF Veteran in Entertainment Award for his many patriotic appearances and performances.

CHAISE LOUNGE performs a blend of music that sounds like it was recorded at Capitol Recording Studios in 1962 and somehow found its way to today’s pop charts. You might call it “Early Stereo.” Or perhaps Lounge with a capital “L.” Or maybe just plain enjoyable. It is the combination of five of the Washington area’s top jazz musicians playing sparkling arrangements of standards and original tunes and featuring the soft, luminous vocals of Marilyn Older. Her voice is truly an American Original. An evening spent with her is an evening spent in the warm, inviting glow of one of the most wonderful voices singing in America right now.
