School News: As the first trimester begins to wrap up, things at the school are going very well! Students are busy being challenged and teachers are providing meaningful feedback getting ready for final grades. We have been glad to see some growth in our brand new Mommy and Me program that happens in the school gym Friday’s at 9. If you know a mom with a young one (or are one yourself) come check it out! As a gentle reminder; it is important that you prepare your reading carefully, so that you are not simply reading, but actually proclaiming the text. Being prayerful with the reading and “living with it” for several days in advance can help to familiarize you with the reading and make it your own. Thirty-Second Sunday in Ordinary Time

"Then all those virgins got up and trimmed their lamps. The foolish ones said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' But the wise ones replied, 'No, for there may not be enough for us and you. Go instead to the merchants and buy some for yourselves.'" - Mt 25:7-9

************************************************************** "But the wise brought flasks of oil with their lamps." The foolish versus the wise. Today's parable sets these two groups in stark contrast to one another. Two crowds of young women wait for a wedding feast. One group comes prepared for the unexpected, the other just assumes everything will go accord-ing to schedule. But it doesn't! The Bridegroom is late, and the foolish virgins are left out in the dark--literally--while the wise ones enjoy the feast inside. The lesson here is not just about having foresight and gather-ing the corresponding equipment. It's about being ready for the second coming of Christ. Jesus himself is the "Bridegroom." Traditionally we refer to the Church as the "Bride of Christ" and we, as the people of God who constitute the Church, are even now awaiting the real feast, the culmina-tion of time when Jesus returns. But are we standing among the wise or the foolish as we wait? Jesus tells us today, "Stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour." Are we spiritually awake? Do we have extra oil to see us through, or are we hitting the bottom of the barrel and running on spiritual fumes so to speak? Do we think it's enough to do the bare minimum as we wait for Christ--stepping into church without really being present, or calling ourselves Christian without really taking up the challenge of the cross? In order to avoid standing outside the feast with the foolish, we will want to make sure we fill our flasks with oil or, in other words, fill our hearts with the love of God, fill our minds with his word and his teachings, and fill our souls with the virtues that unite us to his will. If we stock up on these important supplies, we can count ourselves among the wise!

Centering Prayer

A Centering Prayer Group meets each Monday morning at 11 am in the Nativity House of St. Mary Nativity Church. We invite you to come and join us for this half hour of prayer. Centering Prayer is silent prayer which facilitates the development of contemplative prayer by preparing our body, mind and spirit to cooperate with this gift. It is not meant to replace other kinds of prayer; it simply puts other kinds of prayer into a new and fuller perspective. During this time of prayer, we consent to God’s Presence and Action within. We invite you to come and check out the process and see if this kind of prayer helps you to become more deeply engaged with the Mystery of God’s Presence. The shortened days and early evenings of November invite us to seek light and warmth and open our hearts to reflection. Our second-Monday-of-the-month Taize’ Prayer experience will be on Monday, November 13 at 7:00 PM. As always, our time together will offer a chance to un-crowd our hearts and minds and refresh our spirits. Come and bask in the light of candles and the warmth of friendship, raise your voice in simple and prayerful songs, attend to God’s message in Scripture, and listen in silence for God’s voice in your heart.

Thanksgiving Mass “I’ve got pies to bake” … “We need to clean the house” … “How can I get everything ready?”

In 1863, President Abraham Lincoln declared the final Thursday in November as national Thanksgiving Day. He said, “It has seemed to me fit and proper … to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November next, as a day of Thanksgiving and Praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.” Over a hundred years later and we still do not take the time to truly give Thanks. On Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 5:15 pm we will have our Thanksgiving Mass. You are encouraged to br ing an item from your Thanksgiving table to be blessed during the Mass. The collection at Mass will go to benefit ECHO. Feel free to bring a food item or donation to give. Offer many prayers of Thanksgiving, that the Lord will help you to always be good – Pope Francis

In December, Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care will offer volunteer orientation for those interested in becoming hospice or thrift-store volunteers. Orientation will be held Wednesday, December 6, from 8 a.m. to noon, at Agrace in Janesville. Before they attend orientation, prospective volun-teers must complete an application and an interview process with Agrace’s Volunteer Services staff to identify skills and interests. Cranberry Collection The Knights of Columbus and Nativity of Mary invite you to help ECHO fill Thanksgiving baskets for those in need by bringing a can of cranberries to church with you. Please place your donation in the barrel located in the church vestibule.

Help make a family’s holiday a thankful one: Sponsor a Thanksgiving Dinner for a family in need.
