St. Mary School

In the interest of keeping families updated on the hiring progress and candidate qualifications, we would like to share the following update. Our interview team is currently focused on reviewing applications for the middle school, P4J, and principal positions, as well as actively reaching out to candidates through professional connections. In addition to the necessary candidate credentials, we are seeking applicants who are passionate, student centered educators, dynamic leaders, and possess a committed work ethic to continue St. Mary’s tradition of academic excellence. Sincerely, Matt Parish and Hiring Committee

From the desk of Father Rob …….

SCRIP puts your regular shopping dollars to work

supporting your parish and school with over fifty retailers ….. Grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, department stores, hardware stores, movie theaters, spas and more!

SUMMERTIME SCRIP! SCRIP cards are available for purchase at the rectory Monday through Thursday from 9 am—3 pm beginning June 17th. Please, always call first to be sure we don’t miss you! (752-7861) Look for us after the 10:30 Mass every Sunday, or all Masses twice per month. Next up: July 6th/7th and 20th/21st.

Thank you for supporting your parish and school!

Help Still Needed for Endowment Board: In looking at the by-laws for our school endowment, an endowment board is needed. Their duty is to establish goals and objectives for the endowment fund, and to establish a plan for attaining milestones. I am looking for 3-4 people who have some kind of financial background and experience to be on this board. This board will answer to the Finance Council. You can contact me at the Parish Office.

Help Wanted: Luke Seibert, whose time and talent he graciously gave in cleaning the school on weekdays during the school year, has stepped down. We are looking for someone who is willing to clean 10-12 hours a week during afternoons/evenings throughout the school year. Responsibilities include dust mopping, emptying garbage, and cleaning the bathrooms. Please call the parish office for more information.

Railing Is In: Many of you may have noticed something different in the sanctuary. One of the goals of our tabernacle move was to construct a ramp where the tabernacle was previously. Part of that plan was to install a railing system for those who are elderly and those who have special needs. With the ramp, people will be able to access the sanctuary to approach the Blessed Sacrament and to come to the Reconciliation Room. I am grateful to the Apostolate for Persons with Disabilities for their willingness to give our parish a grant for $7,500 to cover the expenses of the railing. The Apostolate is well known for the Sunday Mass on television, but they do much more for our Diocese. Many thanks to them, and I hope that many people will take advantage of the ramp.

Independence Day This Week: This Thursday, we celebrate our Independence Day. While it is a day to gather with friends and family, it is also a day to reflect on what we have. Despite all the bad news we may hear on a daily basis from the media, we are a blessed people. Our nation is blessed with many resources and freedoms that many others around the world can only imagine. Some years ago, I went to Israel for pilgrimage. Part of that pilgrimage was a trip through the West Bank, where we visited the holy sites in Jericho and Bethlehem. While Palestine has some of the modern conveniences we enjoy, the people do not have the same opportunities. The economy was in bad shape and there was little to keep people there. So, we Americans have much to be thankful for. As a reminder, there will be no daily Mass this Thursday and the parish offices will be closed in observance of the holiday. Have a blessed week!

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

And another said, "I will follow you, Lord, but first let me say farewell to my family at home." To him Jesus said, "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what was left be-hind is fit for the kingdom of God." - Lk 9:61-62

************************************************************** Have you ever heard that the Gospel is radical? In our times, we hear that word and think of fundamentalists, radical activists, or extremists - people who go beyond limits to achieve their goals and may not consider themselves bound by normal propriety or morality. Their ethos might not be so different from James and John in today's Gospel. "Lord, do you want us to call down fire from heaven to consume them?" This isn't so foreign to some of the stories of the Old Testament. Yet Jesus rebukes them. He won't be exacting in the way his contemporaries expected. There will be no radical rain down of fire and brimstone. Jesus is radical in another way: the call to discipleship. "The Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head." "Let the dead bury their dead. But you, go and proclaim the kingdom of God." "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks back to what was left behind is fit for the kingdom of God." These can be difficult passages to read. These are not normal things to hear! It can be easy for many of us to avoid the exacting nature of the Gospel, which might not be what we think it is. James and John wanted to set the bar high for others on the outside and to punish those who didn't meet that standard. Jesus sets the bar high for his disciples, those who say they want to follow him. He may be using some hyperbole, but it's only to send a clear message. This is a radical call, one that has a cost. To truly put God and others first, before ourselves, will involve sacrifice. How is Jesus asking you to be radical today?

What’s Happening

Donations needed for our Sister Parish

We will be collecting items for our sister parish up north, in Stone Lake Wisconsin. Items needed are warm winter clothing (mostly children and some adult items could be used) blankets, bedding, items for bingo prizes, school supplies, etc. You can contact us by phone at 752-6575 or email at [email protected]. Thank you! Dan and Judy Ansier

“Prayer is a serene force at work within human beings, stirring them up, changing their hearts, never allowing them to close their eyes in the face of evil, of wars, of all that threatens the innocent of this world. From it we draw the energy to wage other struggles, to transform the human condition, and to make the earth a place fit to live in.” ---Brother Roger of Taize’

Taize’ Prayer began in the little community of Taize’, France during the 1940s following the destruction of World War II. A group of religious men sought to create an ecumenical form of prayer that would foster reconciliation and peace among all people.

Today, Taize’ Prayer is celebrated throughout the world, bringing Christians of all traditions together to sing, to hear God’s words in Scripture, and to listen in silence for God’s voice in their hearts.

In that spirit, we gather at St. Mary’s as we have since February 1998, to offer this prayer. You are invited to experience Taize’ Prayer here on the second Monday of each month at 7:00 PM. You will find it an opportunity to take a few moments from the busyness of your life and simply be in God’s presence.

Come, experience Taize’ Prayer on Monday, July 8, at 7:00 PM at St. Mary’s. Our time together will offer a chance to un-crowd our hearts and minds and simply be in God’s presence. Come and bask in the light of candles, raise your voice in simple and prayerful songs, and listen in silence for God’s voice. Taize’ Prayer is offered on the second Monday evening of each month, year-round.

Taize’ Prayer

Our Sister Parish—St. Francis Solanus Indian Mission & School, is a Catholic Faith Community inspired by the Gospel values of compassion and love. They strive to build a Christian community that involves all members by committing ourselves to serve God and community through liturgical life, on-going religious formation, cultural dimensions, and service to all.

The School Sisters of St. Francis from Milwaukee, WI, have been working at the Mission for over 100 years. The Franciscan priests from the Sacred Heart Province in St. Louis, MO, have worked at the Mission for 90 years. Diocesan priests began the work at the mission in 1860 until 1878, returned from 1918 to 1938, and returned again in 1988 to the present.

The Mission operates a Souvenir Shop with genuine Indian handcrafts, imported souvenirs and religious articles. The Mission is open to visitors all year round. The Mission depends predominately on donations.

St. Francis Solanus Indian Mission is located on the Lac Courte Oreilles Indian reservation of the Village of Reserve, Wisconsin. It is on the banks of the Little Courte Oreilles Lake.

A Prayer for America Father in Heaven,

We, the People, in the land of the free and the home of the brave,

desperately need You. Oh that we would leave our ways of seeking

to be blessed and instead seek to bless others. We beg for Your guidance and wisdom for our leaders.

We ask You to protect our land from enemies, both within and without.

And we praise You for the freedom we have through the blood of your Son.

May Your plan be the desire of our nation. Amen.
