The Centerfield Nationals are a collegiate wood bat baseball team that is a member of the 6-team Kino Sunbelt League(KSL). The KSL has teams in Bisbee, Casa Grande and Tucson. Other PSWL teams include the Bisbee Ironmen, Casa Grande Cotton Kings, Northwest Mavericks, The Show, The Yard and Shelton Industries Thunder. The KSL is also a member of the 15-league National Baseball Congress and its league champion earns an automatic berth in the 78th NBC World Series . The Nationals will also be playing teams from New Mexico & California this season. The Nationals roster annually consists of top college talent from Arizona and throughout the United States. The 2012 Nationals roster includes players from top NCAA, NAIA and JUCO programs. Players from Tucson/Southern AZ include Eric Nunez, Alex Sallard, Dan Kephart, Andrew Salazar, Carlos Camacho, Cody Walden & KC Cullivan. The organization was founded in 2008 and the team continues to improve with every passing season. The 2011 season saw the Nationals lose a heart-breaking 18-inning game to the Casa Grande Cotton Kings that would have sent them to Wichita, Kansas for the NBC World Series. Centerfield has some core returning players along with a roster full of solid newcomers that will hopefully help propel them to the 2012 Championship! The Nationals train at the 18,000 square foot indoor Centerfield Baseball & Softball Academy. Centerfield is open 7 days-a-week and includes indoor batting cages, bullpens, live arm cages, tee/drills cages and workout areas. Centerfield has been training the best baseball and softball players in Tucson and Southern Arizona since 2003.

The ASA is a non-profit organization started by the Tucson Nationals baseball organization. Proceeds from sponsorships and ticket sales during the season go to aid our efforts with the Advocates for Student Athletes and to give back to our local community. Advocates for Student Athletes, Inc. is a non-profit organization founded in 2008 to assist student athletes financially and educationally. ASA was started in order to give low income student athletes the opportunity to participate in sports where they would not have been able to due to financial burdens. More importantly, at ASA the leadership understands that education is important to the continuing growth of youth thus making education a priority.

ASA helps student athletes financially by helping the athletes pay for registration fees associated with organized sports such as Little League baseball and Pop Warner football. ASA understands that registration fees are not the only expense associated with playing a sport but that the athlete needs equipment such as cleats, protective cups, and other protective equipment needed to safely participate in a sport. Through donations from private individuals and companies and fundraising events, ASA is able to help meet the financial needs of the student athletes.

Funds are not paid directly to the athlete but rather to the organization in which the student athlete wishes to participate with to help ensure that funds are not mishandled. The student athlete is also taken by an ASA volunteer to purchase equipment necessary for the sport in which the athlete will participate in.

In terms of the educational aspect, ASA recruits volunteer tutors to help student athletes succeed academically. Part of the agreement between the student athlete and ASA is that the student athlete must maintain a minimum GPA; the athlete must turn in quarterly progress notes. Should the athlete start to fail academically he or she will seek the help of a tutor that is available through ASA.
