Dramatic Change by Night

• Miners noticed that in the firelight the stones they thought to be emeralds had taken on a red hue. Incandescent light makes alexandrite change colors.

• In the brighter indoor lighting of today, most alexandrite jewelry will not exhibit a dramatic green to red change, but will instead transition from blue-ish green to purple or purple-ish red.

Clarity and Color

• Color is the first and foremost indicator of Alexandrites value.

• If you want an Alexandrite ring with drastic green to red color change: not that the stone will have inclusions and will be opaque.

• Alexandrite pendants, earrings, and rings , and stones have the classic color change and excellent clarity.
