Where is Washington State?
• Can you find Washington State on a map of the United States. Be careful….do not confuse it with Washington D.C.
• Washington D.C. is the capitol of the United States.
• Washington State is a State in the United States.

• The Olympic National Park is in Western Washington State.

Peninsula
• A peninsula is a geographic term to describe a land formation.
• A peninsula is a piece of land surrounded by water on all sides except for one piece of land that connects the peninsula to a mainland.

Hoh Rain Forest
• The Hoh Rain Forest is part of the Olympic National Park.
• A Rain Forest is an area that receives large amounts of rain year round.
• Large amounts of rain creates large quantities of biodiversity.
• Notice all the green colors!

Banana Slug
• The Banana Slug is a typical animal you will find on the floor in the Hoh Rain Forest and in the Olympic National Park.
• Banana Slugs are very sticky!
• Banana Slugs come in all shapes and sizes and are commonly between 8 and 30 centimeters in length.

Olympic Mountains
• In the middle of the Olympic Peninsula there are glacier mountains.
• Snow and ice remain on the tops of the mountains all year.
• Find three other Glaciers in the world and write down their name and the country they are located in your notebooks.

Rivers and Salmon• The rivers on the Olympic
Peninsula feed into the Pacific Ocean.
• Spawning Salmon fill the rivers during the year.
• Spawning is when salmon return to the river from the Ocean to lay eggs in the river.
• The salmon swim against the river current.
• Write down the definition of ‘river current’ in your English notebook.

The Pacific Ocean
• On the Western most side of the Olympic Peninsula is the Pacific Ocean.
• The coastline on the Olympic Peninsula has many large rocks, sea stacks and giant sandy beaches.
• Look on the internet to find out what sea stacks are.
• Write your own definition of sea stacks in your notebook in English.

• Make a presentation in ENGLISH about a natural park in Spain.
• Work in small groups and find pictures, information and travel itineraries about the natural park you research. Include: animals, plants and geography.
