TOMATOES – While the US-Mexico Tomato Suspension Agreement expired on May 7, negotiations are ongoing. We are closely monitoring the situation with our industry partners and will advise on any expected disruptions in supply or price as more information becomes available.

CELERY– The shortage of bulk and pre-cut Celery is at almost an unprecedented level. Pricing is extremely high, and quality is fair. Avoid use where possible.

AVOCADOS – Supplies have improved but not enough to meet demand, particularly on 60 CT and smaller fruit. Pricing is higher than normal, and fully ripened fruit may be less available. 48 CT and larger sizes are the best value. Consider using #2 grade product, which is Compass’ preferred spec.

BROCCOLI- Wet conditions in California’s Salinas Valley are impacting Crowns and Bunched product. Pricing is higher than normal, with good quality. Florets may be a better option.

CAULIFLOWER –The Salinas Valley conditions are also affecting Cauliflower. Pricing is 10-15% higher than normal, with fair quality reported. Colored product is very scarce and much more expensive than normal.

GREEN BELL PEPPERS – Field transition from South Florida into Georgia, and in Mexico, has caused a temporary supply gap. Quality is good, but pricing is 10% higher than normal.

GREEN GRAPES – Both Mexico and California’s harvests are off to a slow start. Supplies are light, pricing is slightly higher than normal, and quality is good. Conditions are expected to return to normal by mid-May. Red Grapes are a much better cost and quality option until then.

ASPARAGUS– Pricing is higher this week, due to early field transition in Mexico. California and Peru are just beginning their harvests. Quality is good, and Pencil and Standard sizes are the best overall values.

Early Season Stone Fruit – California White Peaches and Yellow Nectarines are now available in larger sizes – ask your distributor for recommendations!

Asparagus – Be on the lookout for early spring local Asparagus in the Midwest, Northeast and Pacific Northwest.

Ramps – Like the ferns, this wild onion has a very short springtime season – ask your distributor for availability!

California: Intermittent rain and drizzle in most of the central growing regions, with seasonal temperatures.

Mexico: Seasonal temperatures and precipitation in the central regions, cooler to the north.

Florida: Scattered showers and seasonal temperatures in most of the state.
