EEnnss.. SSttaaccyy MM.. FFiinnlleeyy MMeemmoorriiaall AAwwaarrddOn March 24, 2005, the Naval Academy lost a

member of its family with the passing of Stacy Finley.Stacy enriched the lives of many through her gift ofhumor, infectious laugh, big grin and that favorite yellowpinnie. A truly unselfish player, teammate and friend, she often spoke of the team’s achievements and shiedaway from her own personal success despite being oneof the most decorated players in school and league his-tory.

Honored three times as an all-league player, shewas twice named the Patriot League Offensive Player ofthe Year, as well as to the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionteam. She graduated as Navy’s record holder in careerpoints, goals and shots and owns single-seasonrecords in points, goals, assists and shots. Stacy grad-uated in 2004 with a degree in quantitative economicsand was commissioned an Ensign into the UnitedStates Navy where she had planned a career in thesupply corps.

In 2005, the Finley family and the Naval Academyestablished the Ens. Stacy M. Finley Memorial Award, presented annually to that senior member of thewomen’s soccer team whose courage, will to win, ded-ication and love of her teammates will forever endure.

The inaugural recipient of the Ens. Stacy M. FinleyMemorial Award was team captain Lindsay Adlam, afour-year letterwinner who played alongside Stacy fortwo years. Meggie Curran, who wore Finley’s No. 14for two years, was the 2006 recipient of the award. Itwas Finley who served as Curran’s mentor in 2004when Curran was a freshman.

Julie Reynolds (a three-time all-league midfielder)and Kari Weniger (a two-time Academic All-American)have taken home the honor, followed by Shelly Moeller(four-time all-league) and 2010 captain Jessica Grupp.

AARRMMYY--NNAAVVYYArmy-Navy is one of the most

storied rivalries in all of collegiate andprofessional athletics. Its roots dateback to Nov. 29, 1890, when the twomilitary institutions squared off on thegridiron with Navy taking the inauguralmeeting, 24-0.

While the annual Army-Navy foot-ball game is revered by many as one ofthe premier college football games, it isjust one of the many athletic competi-tions contested on a yearly basisbetween the two schools.

Twenty-three of Navy’s 32 varsitysports battle Army each year in StarCompetitions - predetermined contestsbetween Army and Navy with the win-ner receiving a gold star to affix nearthe "N" for his/her letter sweater foreach such victory. There is only oneStar Competition per sport despite thenumber of times the two programs faceone another during a given season.

Navy currently leads the all-timeseries 10-9-2 and is 8-7-2 in StarGames. The two teams will meet inAnnapolis this season on Oct. 21.
