GO BEYOND…

Use the “Read It”, “Watch It” and “Live It” recommendations to apply this Sunday’s sermon to your everyday happenings. And/or, gather with a small group to discuss the sermon and do life to-gether! Not connected with a Naz small group yet? Email Pastor Bob Ericson at [email protected] to learn more or join a

group.

DIGEST THE WORD...

Read the scripture passages from the week’s Sunday’s Worship Service and reflect on the sermon and on these questions to help you live out God’s Word in your everyday life. Or, use these questions in your Naz Small Group to discuss and apply each

week’s scripture and sermon!

How did this passage/sermon challenge or encourage you?

What questions do you have about this topic?

What does this passage teach you about who God is?

What are the personal implications (for you)?

What does this mean for the Church as a whole?

READ IT: If you do not already use a daily devotional, consider picking up a copy of Jesus in Calling by Sarah Young. After many years of writing her own words in her prayer journal, missionary Sarah Young decided to be more attentive to the Savior's voice and begin listening for what He was saying. In these powerful pages are the words and Scriptures Jesus lovingly laid on her heart. Words of reassurance, comfort, and hope. Words that have made her increasingly aware of His presence and allowed her to enjoy His peace. WATCH IT: Go to the bibleproject.com and watch the video over-view of the New Testament and the video introduction to the Gospel of Matthew. These video summaries will assist you in better understanding the context of the “Sermon on the Mount” being examined in our current sermon series and book study.

LIVE IT: Reach out to someone outside your comfort zone. Ask if they want to have coffee or go for lunch. Intentionally connect with someone who is different from you with the primary purpose

of getting to know them better through listening and demonstrat-

ing care for them. Also, work this week on being a better listener and being a “preparer.” Preparing involves doing small things that show you care for other people. What might that look like at home with your family, at work with a colleague, or prior to meet-ing a friend or neighbor this week?

Fueled by a heat wave and unfavorable winds, devastating wildfires are raging across Cali-fornia, Oregon, Washington and other western states. At least 20 people have died, hun-dreds of thousands of people are under evacuation orders and more than 3.5 million acres have burned across the three states. Some evacuees face the difficult decision of whether to stay in a shelter during the COVID-19 pandemic. Lutheran Disaster Response is engaging with at least three Lutheran social services agen-cies and five synods to assess the situation and determine the best ways to respond. We

expect immediate needs may include food and other necessities, as well as emotional and spiritual care for those who have been traumatized. Your gifts will support wildfire survivors. Gifts to "U.S. wildfires" will be used in full (100%) to assist those affected by wildfires until the response is complete. Even as we face multiple crises, together we can reflect Christ’s light and hope to our neighbors in their time of need.

Please Give Now!

THANK YOU FROM NAZ MISSIONARIES

To the Missions Committee and Church Council at Nazareth Lutheran Church:

Greetings from the Schmidt Family!

We are overwhelmed with gratitude to be writing this email to you.

When we first learned of our outgoing costs, discouragement gripped us. How would we EVER be able to raise that much money? In prayer, we asked this question a lot and never got an answer. Why? Because we were asking the wrong question.

We started asking God, how will You ever be able to raise that kind of money?

And He answered. He answered by stirring in hearts, by bringing people alongside us who long, as we do, to see Christ's beautiful name professed by the people of coastal Tanzania.

He answered through you.

Thank you does not begin to articulate how grateful we are for the tremendous financial gift you've given to our ministry. We are humbled and thrilled and entirely grateful.

But the Father has given us yet another reason to say thank you: in Nazareth, He has given us a faithful prayer partner. We know that your committee, your board and your congregation will pray for our family, our ministry and for the people of Tanzania. Money is useful but prayer is priceless. THANK YOU for praying.

We like to say that the Great Commission is an invitation. And what an invitation! The Father has invited His followers to go, in His name, to the ends of the earth, proclaiming His goodness and love. His Spirit is already there, everywhere, doing just that...but He longs to have us join Him. Isn't He merciful, generous and gracious to invite us along? We are SO EXCITED to GO with Naza-reth, to say YES, along with you all, to this invitation.

We will include the Mission Board email on our regular prayer updates and our newsletter updates. However, if any individuals in your committee would like to receive our updates, please sign up! Our website growtherefore.com has a subscribe link for our broad newsletter. Additionally, if you'd like to be included (and we hope you will!) on our more intimate prayer updates, please send an email to [email protected] and we will be sure to add you.

We hope many of you will be able to visit and serve with us at the farm in the coming years. You will be most welcomed!

And now, to Him who is able! The Schmidts (Andy, Amy, Sparrow & Caleb)

SEPTEMBER MISSIONARY PRAYER REQUESTS

Pray that non-Christians would be drawn to P2C (Power to Change) online content and get into a conversation with an online mentor that leads them to faith in Christ.

Pray that professing Christians would get into a conversation with a mentor that helps them take the next step toward be-coming a more fruitful multiplying disciple.

Pray for more mentors and that the mentors themselves, through their interactions with mentees would grow in their rela-tionship with the Lord or in their effectiveness for the Kingdom.

Pray for content writers to come up with material and position it effectively to draw thee most people into productive spiritual conversations.

Pray for increased partnerships with like-minded ministries all over the world so they can in-crease their effectiveness and bring local presence and support to those seeking Christ.

Pray that funds continue to be available to further the evangelical work of this ministry.
