Nazar the Brave
Once upon a time, there was a
pathetic man called Nazar. He was
feebleminded, lazy and
filthy. He was also a coward, so
fearful of everything that hewould not take the smallest step,
even if you killed him. From dawn
to dusk he would stay by his
wifes side, going out only whenshe would go out and return only
when she would come back. !hat is
why he was known as Nazar the
"oward.
One evening Nazar steps out the
door with his wife and finds a

and shuts the door, leaving him

*o, Nazar remains stranded
outside the door. He almost meltsaway with fear. espite all the
pleadings, his wife wont let
him in. Hopeless and in despair,
having no other choice, he s/uats
under a wall, shivering all
night, deep into thoughts. -t
dawn he waits for his wife to
take him back into the house.

He stands up and goes strait to
the village priest. % Bless me
Father, have you ever heard such
a thing) and he tells him about
his bravery and announces that heis leaving his wife. He asks the
priest to write about his
accomplishment, so everyone will
know it and such an act will not
be forgotten. -s a prank the

writes and hands him this note$

Nazar hangs the note on top of a
wooden stick, holds it up like a
flag, hangs a rusted, old saber
on his belt, mounts a neighbors
ass and leaves the village.
Once on the road, with no
destination in mind, Nazar keeps
going absentmindedly. -fter a
while, looking back and not
seeing the village he is taken by
panic. !rying to calm down he
starts to murmur under his nose,
talk to himself and gets angry at
the ass. !he more he goes, the
more fearful he becomes. !he more

His shouting and cursing
irritates the ass which stats to
neigh real hard. !heir noise
begins to disturb and shoo the
birds off the trees. 2abbits runout the bushes, frogs leap off
and disappear in the brooks.
-s he enters the woods, he starts
to think that beasts and bandits
will 3ump out from behind every
bush or tree or boulder and
attack him. !his feeling makes
him holler and shout so
4oudly, no one has ever heard.

Finding the horse, Nazar takes
the rein and mounts it, leaving
behind the ass and continues to
shout and go. -fter a while he
ends up in a village that he did
not recognize. He hears a
cheerful music coming from a
house so he goes close. !here was
